Just so you know, we found access a lot better, on our recent visit on 13.3.14. For wheelchairs, that is. Father returned and was accommodated in 112 on the corner, and found that this room had ample space for his chair to enter the bathroom, and make his stay even better than he hoped.
It is a fabulous hotel, with a tremendous welcome from the courteous and cheery doorman, and the Reception staff.
Our evening meal was a great success, too, accompanied by a pianist, as Father, his two sons, daughter and daughter in law, dined together.
As a birthday treat, I enjoyed a back massage next morning, and we'd like to report that we have warmed more than ever to the Royal Duchy. Back again next autumn, perhaps!

Welcomed by the doorman the moment we arrived, this gave a good first impression which was followed up by good service generally and a very comfortable and pleasant stay. The hotel is elegantly decorated and certainly a cut above the big hotel chains in almost every respect, including a prime seafront position. The one and only disappointment was the food: breakfast was good and freshly cooked, though half-way through the week plates and portions mysteriously reduced in size; dinners were average in quality and not particularly inspired. What was not at all satisfactory was that on two occasions during our one week stay we were presented with exactly the same menu - what was I saying about a lack of inspiration?!

We stopped at the Royal Duchy for one night only last week and was welcomed as we parked our car by the doorman who unloaded our case and took us to reception, a nice touch Reception was very friendly we and we were shown to our room quickly. What a room, it was spotless and very nicely furnished and one of the best of many we have stayed in. Before dinner we decided to go for a swim in the pool which again was nicely decorated and spotless, my only comment was there was little room for your clothes but you could get a bathrobe from reception and change in your room.. The dining room is beautiful with lovely views of Falmouth Bay but the evening meal was a little disappointing as some of the food was either overcooked or under cooked, we thought that the main chef may of had the evening off. The service from other staff was very good. Breakfast was cooked well but you pay extra for fried bread and black pudding although its advertised as a full English breakfast. (a small niggle) Overall it is a very nice hotel in a very nice area of Cornwall with so many sights and places to visit.

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel

A warm welcome is very much part of the hotels ethos and I am delighted that the front of house team were able to impress.

I think there may have been a misunderstanding regarding breakfast as our full English does include fried bread and black or white pudding at no extra charge.

I hope we can welcome you back to the Royal Duchy Hotel in the future, please mention when booking that you would like bathrobes in your room and we will make sure they are there for your arrival.

Stayed here with family in March 2014. Standard room with inland view.
Room nicely furnished, though a bit tight. Lovely comfortable king size bed. Bathroom very clean and clearly quite new.

Whoever thought a square loo seat would be comfortable, though, must have a strangely shaped bottom ...

The staff here are extremely pleasant and helpful.

There is a nice indoor swimming pool, big enough to actually swim in, and a decent sized, nice and hot, sauna.

The dinner (evening meal was absolutely superb, if the portions were a little on the small side. Emphasis was on pretty presentation rather than filling the belly - but the food was absolutely delicious.

The only real downside was the breakfast. I ordered the full English. It took rather a long time to come and when it did it was very ordinary. Really rather a disappointment.

The hotel makes its own bread on site and that is very good indeed.

All the staff where so polite and helpful. The restaurant staff including the ever present assistant manager could not be faltered. Change of menu each day-presentation and quality of food including a separate menu for my wife who is coeliac were outstanding. Room was clean and only gripe was the too soft mattress which may not suite everyone.
The transformation to our trip here 2-3years ago was superb.

We arrived and booked in quickly and easily. I have eaten here lots of times but never stayed before. Lovely location on the seafront cannot be criticised!

I had a small single room and it looked over the back of the hotel, but at £45 Inc breakfast I thought it was fine.

My mate and I were staying here for a musical event at the Pavilions, a 3 minute walk away. After the gig we arrived back at the hotel, the bar was shut and no one apart from the "Night Manager" was about. We then spent the next couple of hours in the bar with the night manager. Unfortunately he was supplying the beer and we were drinking it, (he had none). What a lovely bloke, musical, political and philosophical discussions had between us before we went to bed at about 0130. Give this bloke a rise in pay!

Anyway, the following morning we went down for a lovely breakfast. Fantastic variety of food, fruit, meats, cheeses and an awesome cooked breakfast. One possible improvement is that the hogs pudding used should be replaced by Crowle and Moss hogs pudding. Truro recipe, well worth a search to discover who actually owns it now. If that was there, would have given this 5 stars!

My husband and I have just returned from our 3rd short break here. .We had a de luxe room this time which was excellent. The location really is amazing - waking up to the sun on the sea just across the road! The staff in the dining room are lovely, so friendly and helpful.
The food is very good (especially the breakfast bacon).
Beds are very comfortable and bathroom very well equipped, even though I think it's a bit daft positioning the towel rail on the wall behind the toilet. Nearer the wash basin would be much better, not having to drip water all over the floor when you wash your hands. That is my only gripe though, it doesn't stop me going back.

Room Tip: De luxe rooms are most expensive but soooooo worth it. Very spacious with great sea views.
