“Noisey rooms at front of hotel.”
Reviewed 1 April 2012

Only stayed for 1 night, our room at the front of the hotel seemed to be newly refirbished, very clean and comfy but also very noisey from road traffic(no double glazing) and VERY squeaky floor boards in the hall way, whenever anyone walked past our door.
The bathroom was very dangerous, to try and get in and out of the shower, above the bath, was quite hard work, as it was very high off the floor, really needed a step or handrail for support, no bath matt which made it very slippery to try and get out.
Staff were very friendly, breakfast was really good, great selection to choose from. Overall for the price paid, would expect much better.

Room Tip: ask to see the room 1st, check out hight of the bath to make sure you can get in or out safley.

Yesterday my wife and I plus two friends had lunch at the Greenbank, and it was excellent. The young staff were professional and friendly, the food was very high quality (well done NZ chef Fiona Weare) and, sitting outside on the terrace under a sunshade looking out over the harbour, it just doesn't get much better. With a special offer dining deal, the price was good too.

Like the lady below, our daughter had her wedding reception at the hotel last July, and the Greenbank looked after us very well. We were thoroughly impressed with all the arrangements, the staff made us all feel special, and the food/service/presentation etc were all extremely good. Guests who stayed at the hotel also enjoyed their time.

I know that the hotel has been undertaking some serious refurbishment, particularly of its bedrooms, so hopefully some of the earlier criticisms are now past. The Greenbank has one one of the best locations and views of all the hotels in Falmouth, and some great staff, so it deserves to do well.

My wife and I stayed for a weekend in March 2012. We paid extra to have an executive room at £175 per night. By booking 2 nights we received the third night free. In an "executive room", or any other for that matter, you do not expect stained carpets, filthy (yes, filthy) armchairs and failed double glazing obscuring the great views. We booked for dinner in the restaurant and received an average meal, hand cut chips should not be frozen out of a packet as served up and my wife's sea bass was dried out.
The first night in room 125 was sleepless, the boiler flue runs up a boxing in this room and it roars and rattles all night. We complained and were given the adjacent room 127, same dirty carpet, armchairs and failed glazing and still some noise from the boiler beneath.
Breakfast was bad. Cheap fruit juices, only tinned or dried fruits, and the cooked food no better. My wife's rock hard fried egg was replaced with another almost equally hard. The scrambled egg was not good and full of shell.
We only had one more meal at the hotel and that was the second morning breakfast, it was slightly better than the first day. All other meals were taken in town where there are plenty of much better quality eateries.
Staff were generally friendly and helpful but none more than the bar manager on the friday night.
I know this hotel receives lots of good reviews and its position on the water's edge is superb but, without doubt, they need to up their game to a better standard.
We were not unique in our views, in the few times we passed reception during our stay we heard another couple complaining about fan noise during the night and another gentleman who was being told the same as us that the hotel is going through refurbishment.
Will we stay again? No, not until they have upped their game.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms 125 and possibly 127 unless you are hard of hearing.

Thank you for your review, an apology to begin with for the fact that your stay clearly fell short of what guests should expect when booking with us. I accept your observations as fair; there are 8 rooms currently under extensive refurbishment and several others to be refreshed which will remedy a small number of, as you say, 'tired' rooms.
I was surprised to read your comments on breakfast as we so often receive excellent feedback on this service. That is not to say that they were ill-founded, and I can assure you that these issues have been treated seriously by the team. We are honest in our approach here at The Greenbank and are keen to improve further on what is generally regarded as an enjoyable, relaxing place to stay when visiting Cornwall.
Once again, I'm very sorry for your experience, I ask you to consider a future stay, in the hope that we can change your opinion of us.

I stayed at the Greenbank Hotel for one night, and was very impressed by this comfortable hotel. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, the rooms were really nice and done to a high standard as well as the bathrooms.
We ate in the hotel for breakfast while was good, with the option of a cooked breakfast.

Overall I was very happy with our stay.

This is the second time we have been to the Greenbank and it was just as good as the first. The atmosphere and staff were superb and although it wasn't warm enough to sit out on the terrace this time we enjoyed a few good cocktails in the bar instead! Our food was great and we loved the fact that the dinner menu was changed daily and that we could get mezze throughout the afternoon and evening when we fancied something lighter.

Our room was great with those lovely views. A bit of updating would be good but having chatted to the staff I know all the rooms are being done and I would love to have a look at the rooms that were being refurbished while we were there.

I can't recommend the Greenbank highly enough and hope we will be back soon.

Room Tip: Definately a sea view - although if you spend as much time in the bar and restaurant as we did you g...

Such lovely comments, thank you! With any luck, the time for cocktails on the terrace will soon be upon us as we hope for a warm and sunny Spring. Our Bar Manager Matt is currently working on some new flavours for the season and can often be found show-casing on Friday nights!
We hope to welcome you back again soon.
