“Cosy with splendid views of the harbour”

Our objective was to find a small and affordable place to stay with our little dogs for a long weekend in Falmouth. Harbour cottage fitted our needs: dog-friendly, small enclosed garden looking out onto the harbour, all the amenities in place for self-catering and located a couple of minutes walk from the town center. And after a pleasant conversation with the owner Lee-Anne on the phone, we decided to book.
Upon arrival we got a little confused, for a neighbouring property carries the same name, featured on a sign outside their drive. But a quick call to the owners of "our" harbour cottage, and we had the thing figured out!
Yes, parking is tricky in the immediate vicinity of the cottage, but not impossible. A little drive around and you'll always find something to ditch the car in.
We visited during a period of extreme cold, but the cottage had a good central heating system and the duvets and other bed linen were good for the job of keeping us warm when we were in. This was mostly just in the evenings as we spent most days out and about discovering this fantastically dog-friendly area of Britain.
The FAQ binder was very useful as it gave us the immediate indication of where the closest amenities where located and how to manage the central heating (hardly complex i'll admit, but after a long tiring drive...) and bins etc.
All in all, i can't find much to fault the cottage and its owners for the budget we had set ourselves in our holiday rental search. Falmouth and its immediate surroundings were wonderful this time of year, and lets just say we're looking forward to visiting again and staying in the cottage again in warmer months ahead...so we can take advantage of the little garden and its views over the harbour some more.

“Wonderful little cottage, perfect location”

Harbour Cottage is a delightful little house in an excellent location, just a couple of minutes stroll from shops, pubs, restaurants and tourist attractions in the charming old town of Falmouth. We felt instantly at home, and found that most of the rooms were more spacious than we had expected. It is well-equipped and very comfortable for two people. The views are wonderful, and the garden is a huge bonus.
We were not bothered by noise from the excellent neighbouring pub, and did not have any trouble finding parking during the weekend we were there; though it is possible that it would be different in the middle of summer.
The only problem for us was the very small bathroom, which we found awkward, though I am sure that younger, fitter people would manage ok.

The entry is nothing to write home about and parking is pot luck (but never an issue), but once through the shared hallway and in the front door it's like a worm hole into another world of beautiful views across the harbour to Flushing littered with boats and then the verdant and golden fields and hedgerows of farming hinterland. The cottage is, well a cottage, compact, but with all the essentials and more. The backyard which won me over when selecting the place via the web, did not disappoint and was lovely to have breakfast in the sunshine. The location was also perfect being close to the harbour and interesting shops. A big thumbs up for use and a place I would recommend for a couple, or maybe three friends.

“Great view”

Central venue with a spectacular view.
Having a garden is also a luxury enabling you to sit outside and gaze at the estuary over morning coffee or pre dinner cocktails

“Lovely little gem of a cottage!”
Reviewed 30 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

This was a lovely bijou self catering cottage, literally minutes from the centre of Falmouth. My sister and I wanted to revisit our childhood memories of Cornwall and this was the perfect place to stay.
It is small place and the owner makes that clear, however it has everything necessary for a week or 2 away and the size adds to the charm of the place. The kitchen / diner has a gas cooker, microwave and washing machine and sufficient equipment to keep you going. There are 2 bedrooms: a double and a single, both a good size with good storage facilities. The lounge has a comfy 2 seater sofa and a small TV. The bathroom has a bath with good shower fittings. The garden has a fantastic view over the harbour with a bbq and outdoor furniture provided.
There is a pub not directly next door but level with the garden. It has an outside dining area and, on Friday - Sunday evenings it did get noisy as it seems to be popular, but was quiet for the rest of the week. I would imagine that during the height of the season this could be a problem as, from the master bedroom, the chatter could be heard even with the double glazed window closed. However I have learnt to always travel with earplugs so this wasn't an issue for me. The single room wasn't effected by pub noise.
I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone who can't walk up a steepish hill or can't cope with narrow steps. A larger male may be challenged by the size of the bathroom but there was a comment from a previous guest that if her 6'6" tall boyfriend could cope ok then most people should!
A previous guest did comment that they were disappointed by the size of the place but in my opinion who needs the extra space when you have everything else you need for a very comfortable stay.
A supermarket was close by and it was a few minutes walk down to the pier. The train station was about a 20 minute fast walk away.

“A lovely cottage - a (tiny) home from home”
Reviewed 28 August 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We enjoyed our stay at harbour cottage (we = two adults, one teenager). The bedrooms were adequate - the spare one my son used was much bigger than I had expected from the description. On the whole however, the cottage is rather small, but very comfortable. As it has large windows, it is very light even on a rainy day. The sea view is great and is best enjoyed in the kitchen, which was perfect for us. We found all the amenities we needed and felt very well taken care of by the owner.
I would not advise this property for families with small children or anybody who might have trouble walking a steep flight of stairs.
