Bring your own food, a pub/bar doubling up as a bookshop. Child friendly, bohemian atmosphere and eclectic decor combine to make this a great place to visit. OK, it is quite laid back so don't expect constant table clearing but as a place to 'chance upon' it is terrific! It could be easy to miss the little side street particularly when the town is full so get a map!
We really liked the book selection - a combination of good to very good condition second hand and a few unusual remaindered. Don't be tempted, as we were, to leave and walk on down to the quay in the hope of finding something similar - there isn't!

“Rubbish”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

A good selection of beers but nothing but a slice of lemon in my Pimms, cash only (even our local in even deeper Cornwall takes card!) and had to wipe our own table when seated!! All rather disappointing.

“Recommended if you like beer, or books, obligatory if you like both.”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

I can't really express how amazing this place is. It's a place where you can buy beer (including proper ale) and good books..... at the same time! It would be worth visiting to do either separately, or to take in the really quite special building that all the brilliantness is housed in.

Proper clompy-floored, dark but very cozy pub that must have been around for a hew hundred years (?) Staff were all very friendly and helpful, beer was good, coffee smelled good. All very informal and relaxing. The book section is off to one side and you are left in peace to browse properly- pay at the bar if you buy anything.

“Curious!”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

Have been to this curious mix of a bar and bookshop a few times now; very relaxed and informal. The draught beers and ciders offer a great choice and the shelves heaving with wonderful books is well worth browsing; not the usual run-of-the-mill books that you would find on the high street, these are very interesting and sometimes downright unusual. My husband said on our first visit that it was the first time he'd had to drag me out of a bar!

“thanks Alice behind the bar”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

Called in on our son's recommendation and had a great time browsing their books, playing ping pong(!) and having a drink in a relaxed atmosphere. Then managed to hit my head hard on a shelf resulting in painful egg shaped bump. Alice behind the bar could not have done more to assist, ice packs, offers of painkillers. We will call there again...and again whenever we are in Falmouth.
