“Excellent food but service could be better”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

The burgers in this restaurant are first class. All of the ingredients appear to be locally sourced and home made - probably the best burgers we have eaten. However, the service was a little flakey. I stood for several minutes not knowing whether to take a seat or order at the counter. The guy at the griddle didn't say anything and the waitress was having a good chat to the customers (?) at the counter. It would have been nice just to have been acknowledged. The atmosphere is great for young people but the progressive music playing quite loudly was not to all tastes. No matter, this place has a lot going for it and could be excellent if just a little more thought is given to customer service. Apparently one cannot rely on eating late - their closing time is predicated on when they run out of ingredients. Odd, to say the least for a restaurant in a holiday resort..

“Excellent food”

Has to be one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. Good atmosphere inside the place and a decent variety of food. Staff were very friendly and polite.

“ok food -terrible service”
Reviewed 29 March 2014

My girlfriend and I visited The Meat Counter for lunch. I had heard about how good this place was meant to be and reviews online looked promising. The food itself is nice. It's not outstanding and certainly not good enough to excuse the poor service we had there.

Right from the off, as soon as we set foot in the restaurant, there was no greeting from the staff. We had never been before so did not know if we had to go to a free table or be shown to one. After standing awkwardly being ignored for a couple of minutes we decided to sit down. Again, we were unaware of whether or not we had to go to the counter to order or if a waiter/waitress came to the table to take the order. It would have been good if there was a message somewhere or a staff member to explain the procedure to people that clearly hadn't been before.

My girlfriend asked for a glass of water and was pointed to a large jug of water up at the counter but she was not directed to a glass or anything so had to ask for one.

When we asked for one of the burgers with no sauce/relish on it at all, we were given a burger practically swimming in mayonnaise. When my girlfriend asked if the burger was meant for her, because she asked for no sauce at all, she was just told "Yes" by the member of staff at the counter and wasn't offered another one to correct it. Neither of us are very good at complaining so she just took the burger, covered in mayo back to the table to eat.

To top everything off, they forgot another item off our order. When it became clear that it wasn't 'on it's way', neither of us wanted to complain as we felt uncomfortable enough as it was after the burger situation. We simply left. We were not told 'Thank you' or 'Goodbye' but due to the complete non service we'd received since setting foot in The Meat Counter, I was not surprised in the slightest.

Maybe we caught the staff on 'an off day'. We won't be coming back to find out.

“Best burghers in town ”
Reviewed 29 March 2014 via mobile

Definitely the best burghers in town.
The only issue is the fact that they run out of ingredients very often. So you may show up for dinner at 7pm on a Saturday night and they can't serve you!
Other than that is great!
