“Great stay at Barclay House”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

Very comfortable room and to our surprise a superb meal in the restaurant not a rubber chicken in sight, I even asked the chef if he could change the pasta dish for a risotto and he was happy to create the dish from scratch. We are currently house hunting in the area and this was our sixth trip in the last few months, nowhere we have stayed has come remotely close to the Barclay. Receptionist was a bit cocky though but in a humorous way (haha). This place should really carry a health warning as you may require surgical intervention to remove yourself! A brilliant find. We love it.

Room Tip: One with a river view

Atruly memorable and happy weekend . we loved the kind and welcoming receptionist, the hotel is in an enviable location with stunning views. The interiors are well designed and elegant and the reception rooms have lovely views over looe valley. Our room was spacious and well furnished and the bed huge and extremely comfortable with an ensuite whirl pool bath and fluffy white towels .. then there is a superb breakfast to indulge in the fresh fruit bowl the best i have ever had and the salmon scrambled egg was mouth wateringly good... we dined in the trawler, restaurant by the quay again fab dining experience and ex staff and menu and of course views over the creek so all in all a really 5 star experience thank you to all staff..

Room Tip: all very good high standards throughout

I booked a two night stay here with my partner this weekend. We arrived and found the hotel easily regardless of the recent landslip in Looe. As we arrived the young blonde receptionist (I cannot remember anyone's name, I'm useless) was extremely helpful in booking us in. Showing our room and around the room and offered menus of the evening meal. I have never felt so welcomed.

The room was stunning and immaculate. The bed as huge with a memory foam topper and an ensure huge jacuzzi bath. We had a balcony that we could access from the room through double patio doors. The view was across the river and over to looe, again beautiful and romantic. We decided to eat out. I have never had such a comfortable nights sleep.

For breakfast we were greeted and offered tea or coffee which was topped up throughout the meal. There was a buffet bar offering juice and cereal and yoghurts. We were even offered a fresh fruit bowl. Hot orders were taken and the food was astounding, hats off to the chef. Fresh homemade food even fresh homemade brioche on one morning. .

Our room was cleaned daily with fresh bedding and towels. Even sitting in the lounge during the day we were offered drinks to the table. I would like to commend all members of staff.

I will recommend this hotel to everyone looking to visit Cornwall. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.

Stayed 2 nights at Barclay house, the public rooms were well kept, the breakfast was good though everything is served to you there is no buffet for cereals etc, we found this a bit off putting as you don't like to keep asking. The main problem was the bedroom which was very worn and dated nothing cosy about it, this really did let it down.

My friends and I spent New Years Eve staying in Redcliffe, a separate house next to the hotel but part of the complex. The views were great, and the breakfast at Barclay House restaurant was excellent. A very large patio at Redcliffe overlooked the valley and estuary, and there were lots of local walks we went on, well advised by the hotel staff. Highly recommended for family or friends trips.

We booked our two-night stay on the 'phone, having seen various reviews of BH on the net and in other places. Our reception was warm, and we were shown to our room, No 5, with great speed; not the best room available, but then we were not paying the highest rate. It was perfectly acceptable. Both dinners were absolutely to die for. My wife says she will remember them for the rest of her life! The beds were comfortable, the room was warm (late October), and the shower room very acceptable, with lots of towels available. Breakfasts were easily as good as any I have had in the best of hotels, and better than even more. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff are both helpful and charming, and are also very friendly & approachable.
While this is unashamedly, I guess the most expensive hotel in Looe, it does not have the sweeping sea view of the Hannafore Point Hotel, and frankly I see the river view as being very charming. If you can get a deal of some sort through Travelzoo or similar, this place will tick a lot of big boxes, and you, like we, will return.
We had only one problem: a plumber had to be called to the plumbing in our room, but he arrived in just about 5 minutes. Plumbers like this are rare creatures!

Room Tip: Go for one with a view, if available. Water pressure seems to be good.
