“Basic but good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014

Came here for a weekend away in July and was greeting with a warm smile and friendly manner from the owner. The room was very basic, but we had everything we needed. The breakfast was of great quality and the price was bang on compared to other B&B's in the area.

We spent four days here in the family room and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The situation of Tom Sawyers makes it an ideal place to stay. The owners are more than pleasant and very helpful too. They are currently re modelling the rooms and when finished , the place with be superb.

Room Tip: Not sure as we had a family room and did not see any other apart from one that had been refurbished...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and felt that it represented excellent value for money. We stayed in one of the recently renovated rooms and had our own private front garden/seating area. which was really nice. The room was clean, nicely furnished and spacious.

The owners were very friendly and recommended we see a local band in the town centre who were playing that evening (which we did and enjoyed). There was a wide choice of food at breakfast and the dining area was very clean.

On a final note, the views from the B&B were simply breathtaking. If we ever visit Looe again (which we are planning to in the future) we will almost certainly stay here again and would highly recommend it to others.

I have just read one of the recent reviews on Tom Sawyers Bed & Breakfast in Looe about it being like a building site, what a load of rubbish.

We have just returned from one of the best holidays we have had and will be going back there again before the year is out.

The premises have recently been converted from a tavern with a restaurant into B&B accommodation. There is just one room that is currently being prepared but it didn't affect our stay in any way.

We stayed in Room 1 which is a stones throw from the front with very spacious accommodation. We had our own private outside seating area which we didn't use as we sat at the front with the owners and the other guests.

Our accommodation was so much more than just a room, there was a lounge area with soft furnishings, a light and airy bedroom area with a well thought out bathroom space.

There was a double shower with a shower that was simple to use with constant hot water.

The bed was spacious with a good comfy mattress and decent pillows.

It was nice to have Sky and a good size television in the room.

The Oak furniture was tasteful with good colour co-ordinated accessories throughout.

The breakfast room was clean and tidy with a choice of cereals, as much toast as you could eat and a superb cooked breakfast that set us up for the day. Pots of tea or coffee and fruit juice were plentiful.

It might have been a bit of a faff to get a signal on your phone but that is the location. It only took a few steps to bring in a stronger connection. Tracey the owner was more than willing to log in your Wi-Fi connection to tablets or laptops at any time.

The view from Tom Sawyers is spectacular. The sea view is amazing whether it be first thing in the morning or once the sun had set at night.

All of the above helped us to have a really good Cornish break but what makes this such a special place are the people who run it.

It takes special qualities to make total strangers feel welcome and part of their extended family. Laughter is always in the air and good conversation aplenty. Family and friends turn up at any time and along with their guests all sit around and have a drink and a chat together.

Dear Ken and Tracey, carry on doing what you do so well and along with Paul, Queenie and your lovely friends you have just given us one of the best holidays we have had.

We look forward to going back later in the year and this will be the first time that we have gone back to the same accommodation twice!

Room Tip: Room 1 was good but all of the accommodation was of a high standard.

Stayed here for 5 nights and will not stay here again. Prior to going there, I sent a mail to the hotel asking about something I read on Tripadvisor, about the place being something of a building site. I never got a reply, expecting work to be finished. Place was a bit of a building site actually, but we weren't really bothered with that. Could've answered me, though!

The owners seem a bit lazy, mainly relaxing outside the hotel/motel with a drink and a fag. They were nice and welcoming and all, but we expect a little more effort on their behalf when it comes to room cleanliness, service and so on.

Pros:
- Lovely views right outside the doorstep.
- Perfect location for the walk to neighbour village, Polperro.
- Room 3 decent sized with a huge TV (ca 37" I'd guess)

Cons:
- Dirty room, had to get rid of a couple of spiders and there are thick layers of old dust in the corners, underneath drawers etc.
- Bathroom had a bit of black mould, especially the shower niche. Cold stone floors.
- Breakfast was bland, very little to chose from. Mediocre.
- Springy bed.
- As the rooms are on street level and right in front of the parking spaces, it's not very private..
- A 15 min walk to get to Looe city centre - was alright for us, but can be a challenge for some people.
- Although there was a "WIFI" sign directly above our room, one had to be in the reception area to get a signal.

All in all an alright stay, however we'll choose another B&B if we end up in this lovely coast town again!

Room Tip: Room 1 probably has wifi - no chance in room 2 and 3!

Stayed at Tom Sawyers in May, what a great location, along with a great Breakfast. This B&B punches well above its rating, the welcome and the standard of the rooms are first class, along with your own private car park space, as it is so hard to find in Looe as it a hard place to park at times. The view from the rooms is also amazing as you are only yards from the sea. We will be going back to stay at Tom Sawyers as we are regular visitors to Looe and this is bar far the best B&B we have found.

We have just returned home after 4 nights at tom sawyers and we have to say that the rooms for a 3 star b&b are above this rating with the rooms having that feel of top class. There is car parking in front of the rooms with a view to die for over looking the coast the host (ken & Tracey)are more than willing to go that extra mile to help. We sat on an evening and had a drink with them so by the end of our stay it as if we had known them for years. Breakfast full English was cooked to order and served with a big smile by queenie with just a short walk to east looe. We would not hesitate to recommend this B&B to family and friends and yes we will be going back as soon as we can

Room Tip: all the rooms are on the ground floor being bright and airy so any room is excellent
