“Excellent choice for holiday in East Cornwall”
Reviewed 24 July 2013

It would be hard to beat Trelaske on a value/quality basis. Hazel and Ross work incredibly hard to help this hotel to punch well above its weight. The highlight must be the food. If you like fish, you should certainly take the option for the evening meal. During our stay we ate John Dory, Turbot, Sea Bass, Crab and Lemon Sole, all freshly caught out of Looe. Ross has a natural talent for sauces, and there were always about 4 different vegetable dishes of the highest quality to accompany, mostly home grown. Desserts were also wonderful with a good selection, and breakfasts were filling with an excellent choice of soft fruit compotes and good quality English Breakfast. The bedroom we had (No. 6 in the garden) and the public rooms were spacious and could easily accommodate a larger number of guests than those occupying the 7 rooms. As it is only 3 star there is no air conditioning in the bedrooms which made for a little difficulty sleeping during the hottest week for 7 years. It would have been helpful to have had a single sheet rather than a duvet (we never asked so this may have been an option), which was far too hot. However, by keeping the back door and windows open all night, it was possible to get a through breeze, and in any case, everyone was having the same problems in their own home that week as well. Free (but often slow) Wi-Fi was available until 10pm in the main building only as the bedrooms appeared to be out of range. The hotel is secluded and peaceful in lovely grounds. Hazel is a very warm, helpful and friendly host. We appreciated details of local walks, and when my wife asked if there was any Natural Yoghurt, she kindly purchased some so it was available for the rest of our week. The area is lovely, but if you like walking around the coastline you need to be able to cope with the ups and downs of the coastal path. The walks from Looe to Talland Bay and Talland Bay to Polperro were especially good, and we loved the 'difficult to find and access' beach at Lantic Bay. We felt at the end, that we had got a great holiday for a remarkably cheap price. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to explore this lovely area.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel most welcome by Hazel. The hotel is set in beautiful peaceful grounds and the room was spotless, spacious and very comfortable. The location is great for walkers and also on the local bus route, being midway between Looe and Polperro. Ross is an amazing chef. His menus were so good the main problem was how to make a choice! We stayed for a week and there was a different choice of fresh fish every night, amongst other things, home grown vegetables, all expertly cooked and presented beautifully. Breakfasts too , freshly cooked, good wide choice of hot and cold, fresh fruit and berries, home made muesli. Excellent value for money.
Hazel and Ross deserve to do well. They make your holiday special with their personal touches, warm hospitality and excellent food. We definitely plan a return visit.

This was our third visit, and again we were exceedingly well looked after. Hazel is a natural host. Our large room was super comfortable and quiet with lovely views ( I think to Bodmin Moor) from the picture windows and the terrace. Ross' cooking is superb. Except on the first night you order dinner at breakfast (which is itself a real treat) and everything is cooked ready for you. Lots of produce from the gardens and fish from the local boats. Not the cheapest place, but very good value.

Top class hotel could not fault anything. From the moment we arrived the the service Hazel gave us showing us to our room (which was more like suit) and bringing us a pot of tea we felt at ease. The meals were excellent plenty of variety. One down side was having to come home.We will most certainly be visiting this hotel in the very near future.Mike & Sue Gladman

29th June 2013 PIM

Hazel made us very welcome on our arrival, walked us to our room and even offered to bring us a pot of tea after our long journey. An iron and ironing board was made available on request.

Our room was spotlessly clean, very nicely decorated and the bed and sofa were extremely comfortable.

The food was mostly of Cornish origin and the vast majority of the vegetables were fresh from the hotel's own garden.

Hazel took time to explain the menu, which made the whole dining experience even better.

Ross's cooking was inspiring, with each dish being well thought out and presented in a way that complimented the finest local ingredients.

We loved Ross's hazelnut parfait, which was very light and a perfect way to end a delicious meal.

Hazel and Ross have obviously put a lot of thought into the decoration of the hotel, food and the very personal service that they provide. The position of the hotel and its large grounds are well suited for those of us who prefer a quiet location and wish to be removed from the bustle of life.

We enjoyed our first visit so much that we will be returning in the very near future.

We never return to the same place or hotel twice but for this hotel we made an exception. We cannot say enough about this place it is so good. From the warm welcome that Hazel gives to everybody, to the peace and tranquility, the comfort and the superb food produced by Ross, everything is just fantastic. We found this hotel last year and, this year, we treated my 93 year old mother to a weeks stay for her birthday. She has worked in the hotel trade and has even taught cookery and even she rated this place as the best hotel she had ever stayed in. Need we say more? Already booked for next year.

We spent 4 nights at Trelaske in early June, and once again our stay was as good as our previous visits.
Hazel was as ever a most friendly and professional hostess, and along with Ross's delicious food, plus excellent weather, it was perfect.
Anyone looking for a relaxed getaway in pleasant surroundings, plus exceptionally good food should pay this hotel a visit. You won't regret it.
