“Very goodd value!”
Reviewed 10 August 2013

We stayed in the Pentire for three nights having seen an offer on Travelzoo. I normally would read Tripadvisor reviews thoroughjly before making a booking but the offer was too tempting to resist. Once booked I looked at Tripadvisor and was a little disheartened by what I read... but i need n't have worried. Our experience was very positive. We did have to change rooms and luckily our first room was EXCELLENT - room 208 - very spacious, huge flat screen TV, newly decorated, modern furniture, new bathroom fittings of a high standard and a very spacious en-suite. It had facilities for making drinks and didn't scimp on the choices, it also had a hairdryer, soap and shower gels. The view was superb!!!
We had breakfast and evening meals so were worried this would be the let down but again, we were pleasantly surprised. It was all very nice typical hotel fare... four choices of starter, main and dessert. I enjoyed all of them.
People in previous reviews had complained about the carpet ... It was all brand new - just fitted from the first floor up... and they moaned about birds - really?? Keep the window shut when you are out! Yes, there are seagulls - you are by the sea!!
Ok, so the exterior and a few bits were dated but this in no way spoiled our stay.
We used the pool and the steam room. Both very welcome additions.
Our second room was far more basic - I guess they are refurbishing bit by bit. We did notice the difference from luxury to 'bog-standard' front view, squashed room but still feel the hotel is well worth a visit.
You must take a short trip up the road to Pentire Head where you will see the most wonderful sunsets. The bar/restaurant on the lower path is well worth a visit. It has fabulous views and is far more suitable for a quiet evening than bars in Newquay itself. Pentire Headland is beautiful in the daytime too to see Crantock beach on one side of you and Fistral on the other. Take a walk to Fistral. We ate lunch at the Headland hotel which was delightful. Later we had a drink at the cafe at the far side of the beach - a nice stop off on your journey back to the hotel.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back for the great view.

June and I stayed at this hotel on a short break given to us by our family as an anniversary present, the hotel is very freindly and clean and the food is very good, we had a great room with a sea view over fiscal bay, the hotel is a bit far out of Newquaybut a local bus passes right ouside and takes a few minutes into town, all in all I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting cornwall as it is a good point of access for the surrounding area.

Room Tip: ask for a top floor sea view room

My husband, myself and our 2 golden retrievers have just returned from our second stay at this friendly hotel. The staff in the restaurant, bar and reception were both charming and very helpful. The food choices were varied and of good quality. My only criticism was that our bedroom and bathroom were a little tired looking. Overall though, it was excellent value for money and I would certainly recommend it to friends and I'm sure we will return again soon.

Really enjoyed the stay here at the Pentire with friendly staff and very nice modernised rooms.y only complaint is the standard of the evening meal.
Even though it was a
Reasonable price it didn't match the quality. The starter was basic to say the least pasta and tuna with the main course being very nice but it was the so called cheese board- 4 Jacobs crackers and 4 pieces of cheddar!! Probably would stay again but eat out next time,
BreAkfast was very nice

Thank you for your feedback. It's reassuring for us to read that you liked your modern room, found our staff friendly and enjoyed your main course and our breakfasts. We are very pleased that you would also stay here again. We are sorry that our 'cheese and crackers' did not meet your expectations. Our menu states that you can choose to have Cheddar or Stilton with crackers or a combination of both cheeses. However, our reprinted menus should read 'Cheese and Crackers' and not 'Cheese Board'. We will address this straight away and would thank you for bringing this to our attention.

We stayed here in June for 7 nights. As before the staff were fantastic and helpful as was Chris Howard the general manager.
Sadly the weather was not all that great so we only managed to go to the beach (Porth) once but that's the luck of the draw in this country.
The food as normal was as good as any in a 4 star abroad, as was the service.
We also go to Cyprus and Canary Islands at least twice a year and when we stay at Pentire we feel the service is as good as them. You only pay 3 star prices, and yet many people think they are entitled to 5 star treatment. Wake up this is England, surely people over 60 are entitled to have good holidays and this is very good value. If you don't like it, don't go.

Room Tip: Room 110 and 206

As a solo traveller, I was treated with respect by all staff and the food and facilities were excellent.
The room was adequate for my needs - didn't like the squeaky floor board next to the bed or the slamming doors at night but this was a minor thing. Lovely views from my bedroom window, on a bus route or you can walk into town in 20 minutes. Close to Fistral beach which is a bonus. Will stay again and recommend to my family and friends. Thank you.

Room Tip: Mend the squeaky floor boards.

We knew as we approached this Hotel it was not going to be the best when we saw the 2 coaches outside. It was comfortable enough but the seagulls were a nuisance and noisy so it was necessary to close the window at night to avoid being woken up which was not good during the hottest summer since 2006. Breakfast was basic and just tasteless calories. The outside needs painting.

Room Tip: The rooms on the front might be less affected by seagull noise.

As a 75 bedroom hotel, we often have a coach outside and see no reason why this should prejudice anyone’s opinion. We appreciate that seagulls can be quite noisy. However the seaside is their home and they will always be present, no matter how beautiful and sunny the weather gets. Our home-cooked breakfasts are really popular. In fact, our sausage supplier won 'Gold' at the Taste of the West food awards. We also offer yogurt, fruit, toast, cereals, porridge, cheese, ham and breakfast rolls. We apologise if none of these items were to your liking. We do hope you enjoyed your walk along our spectacular coast paths.
