“Worst "hotel" I've ever stayed in”
Reviewed 11 January 2014

After having this trip booked for us as a treat it was anything but that, we were greeted and taken up to our room which was nothing at all like any pictures advertised. After paying £55 reduced from £99 we were given a room that had no en-suite, no sea view and no working television, although we were told if we didn't fancy breakfast (toast and cereal) and wanted to pay a extra £10 we could upgrade to a room where you could see the sea instead of a roof with some bricks on it which seemed ridiculous as we where the only ones staying there aside from one other guy who they chose to put in the room next to us.

From the moment we arrived it was one problem after another, not only did the "hotel" have a funny smell about it but we also contended with the fact the only other resident in the room next door was clearly smoking without any ventilation making the hallway smell awful. The shared toilet /shower was not much better looking, very run down to say the least, and of course the room, aside from the roof view the room was so small my partner could hold their arms out and almost touch either side with no more than 2 foot around the bed. The sink was just about passably clean and bed made but no cover over the divan base leaving a feeling of staying in a spare bed at someones flat rather than a hotel room.

All this aside we thought we'd go out make the most of our stay, coming back at about half 9 we went upstairs to find out our TV was not working properly making a horrible buzzing noise over the audio so we went downstairs to the bar which had all of 2 people in it one of which the owner. After getting a drink we attempted to discuss the TV with the owner to which they said "well it was fine before you got here" swallowing this rudeness down we asked her if they could have a look, they said "well i can have a quick look but even if it is broken theres nothing we can do" never had customer service like it. When they came back down they told us that there was nothing wrong, and maybe it was because we had moved the TV slightly on it's wall stand and was touching the wall, we queried describing the buzzing noise, their response was "oh well theres a slight clicking but you can still hear the TV". Now to the pool table, i'l advise you against spending 50p on it when only 1 pool cue isn't broken and all the cushions are moveable, at this point we could not be bothered to complain anymore and just left for bed.

In the morning troubled by how awful the service was and how different it was to the advertisement on laterooms, we were told "it's not our fault if they put up the wrong pictures, you should have really checked on our website" at this point the both of us were getting slightly more p***ed off and just decided to leave. After working it hotels. B&B's, and holiday cottages for the last 10 years i have never seen a lower standard especially for the price. I have stayed in better B&B's for £20 a night and got another room in Newquay the next night which was luxury in comparison for £20 less, this place should defiantly not be called a hotel. Avoid at all costs.

Wanted somewhere to stay by the beach in Newquay - didn't expect it to be as nice and homely as it turned out to be. When you wake in the morning and first thing you see is the vast surf, then get up and enjoy a good breakfast, in a clean environment , what more could one ask for. Will definately be returning . Ps. Have also stated at The Esplanade, Headlands and others and for sheer value and cosines would rather stay here. Thanks

Where do I start or end this story.
If the reason to book a room is only for a booze night out or want just a quick sleep then this is fine.

Anything else, avoid.

My complaints are similar as many others so please take this advice

Bed too small, window dirty so not a pretty view on the sea, shower very hot and the holder doesn't hold the shower head, breakfast very basic continental, thin walls so keep your ears closed.

It's lucky I didn't paid too much but if I could claim half my money back, I would.

This should not be called a hotel at all. Just a basic simple B&B with 1 star.

Sorry to be so rude.

Experience for room 12A.

Excellent location for the price, its right on the beach which is hard to find. Clean rooms, good continental breakfast, owners and staff very friendly and welcoming.
We saw that the reviews were mixed before we stayed but thought we'd give it a go and were very impressed, don't know what everyone is complaining about.
Great bar with good atmosphere and free table tennis which was a plus! Food menu on the small side but very good quality and price with big portions. Met some locals which added a nice touch to the Newquay/surfy vibe of the hotel. Nice big deck area out the front which is great when enjoying a drink and watching the surf in the sun.
Not too far from town, about a 10 min walk, which let you get far enough away to not be in the thick of nightlife but have it easily if you want.
Only negative was there was no ensuite for our room but we knew that before we stayed so wasn't really a problem.
Overall great hotel... would definitely stay again.

I stayed with 2 other friends and we were lucky to get a room with fabulous views of the beach. The facilities were pretty basic but clean. We used this as a base for exploring Cornwall so didn't spend much time in the hotel. There is a lovely terrace to enjoy a drink but it was too windy and cool when we were there. Our biggest challenge was navigating the very narrow staircases with our suitcases all the way to the top!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view - the others are pretty depressing.

I have never felt strongly enough to place a review before, but on this occasion I feel that I need to share our experience at this hotel - one we definitely will not be repeating. We booked a long weekend over the August Bank Holiday weekend as the hotel accepted dogs and as we had left it to the last minute to book somewhere, most places were fully booked. We arrived after nearly a four hour drive and received no real welcome, but an immediate request for payment. The hotel (personally I would call it a guest house) was located in a prime spot above Fistral Beach and had fantastic views but this is the ONLY positive I can comment on. The room we were allocated was extremely small for three people but did have a sea view which was gorgeous - this is the only good thing I can say about the room. The windows were so dirty it was difficult to see clearly through them and also, one of the double glazed window units had broken down which again hindered the view. The shower was not working and when it was repaired it barely trickled rendering it practically useless, the tv was tiny and only had one channel, the cheap plywood furniture was unuseable as the handles kept falling off the drawers, the toilet seat was broken, the toilet paper was the cheapest you can buy (79p for a pack of four), the windows in this room were not sealed properly so the wind howled through, especially at night time which made it almost impossible to sleep and the room seemed damp but I could see no evidence of this. The price we paid included breakfast which was also very poor, cold toast, boxed cereal, cheese slices and fruit juice with a hot drink and was only served for one one hour between 9.30am and 10.30am. We paid £120 per night for 3 nights at this establishment and we have come away feeling as though we were well and truly 'ripped off'. I will be writing to the owners, but based on previous reviews, I do not think they will have the common decency to offer any partial refund - we shall see.

On arrival we were shown the tiny room we were allocated with barely a double bed in it! View over flat roof littered with rubble, damp in cupboard evetything very outdated, broken window frame. Shared shower/toilet left a lot to be desired, shower handle broke off the second i touched it! stayed one night and decided to find somewhere else to stay. And on advising staff we had decided to leave they proceeded to argue with us about the standards!
