we stayed for 2 night over August bank Holiday as we booked late it was the only place available. We had a room at the very top of the old building. The room was more like a small apartment with a kitchen and dining table, the furniture was really old and dated too. It had good sea views which was the only nice thing about it. On the second night we were woken at 1am by people in the room below arguing. The male was very loud and I had to bang on the floor numerous times to get them to be quiet but to no avail. They eventually quietened down at 4am leaving us exhausted. Add to this the consistent banging of doors in the hotel by guests who obviously didn't have any respect for anyone else it was a nightmare stay. We didn't go for breakfast as it finished at 10 am and we like to take our time in the morning to get up and ready. Staff were helpful if you approached them however when I checked out I stood at the bar (there is no real reception area) and was ignored by all staff, in the end I left the key on the bar and left. This hotel was not cheap either so overall we didn't enjoy our stay here neither was it value for money.

I booked a room at Porth Lodge Hotel for 3 nights as I was visiting the area for a wedding with the intention to enjoy an extra day in the area. I only ended up staying two nights at the hotel.

Arrival: The car park is not onsite, it's across the road which wasn't a huge problem.
There is no reception area so I had to wait ages at the bar to check in. I was informed of breakfast times but no other details were given. Finding out small details such as how to get into the hotel late at night wasn't simple, a lady explained there was a door code but she wasn't forthcoming in what the code was.

Room: as soon as I opened the door there was a very unpleasant smell which I would describe as a stale, sweaty, mouldy smell. The bed and towels were fine but the room was quite dirty which was unpleasant. There were cobwebs in the corners of the room, the carpet had stains on it, there was a hole in the wall and the walls are extremely thin so I could hear all the other guests conversations and I could hear them using their facilities.

Bathroom: I had a shower which didn't drain very well, the toilet roll holder, bin and mirror were rusty and I'm not sure the extractor fan has ever been cleaned and the toilet seat which I imagine used to be white was stained a yellow colour.

Food: I can't comment as I didn't fancy eating there.

I expected my stay to be comfortable and it wasn't. Thankfully I was out for the majority of my stay but if I return to the area again I won't book this hotel. I travelled a long way but if I hadn't arrived so late, or had the wedding to focus on, I would have requested a refund and found alternative accommodation.

It's a really nice building and good location but overall the place could benefit from an update and a good clean. It was a cheap booking but that is still no excuse for it to be dirty. The previous two nights were uncomfortable so I didn't want to stay the third night, there was no one around so I handed my key to a young lad and left early feeling quite disappointed.

We stopped here for three nights to see another part of Cornwall after our main holiday. The old part of the hotel is very charming but I could not describe the more modern extension as such. Our room was in the extension over the bowling alley. The noise from the bar or bowling alley was not excessive and apart from the last night we were the only guests in the extension.
Room was basic but large and clean. We had a problem with the kitchen sink tap and struggled to turn the tap off (washers may have needed changing). Some of the electric sockets did not work and one in the kitchen was loose on the wall. Phone will not charge.
Breakfast in old hotel dining room was freshly cooked and good. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Car park is round the corner and you have to walk round a double bend on a single carriage road to unload / load luggage and take to the hotel. Exercise strict caution walking round the bends especially with young children as vehicles do speed. Try to park in front of hotel for few minutes to unload and load.
Beach is 5 minutes away - be careful on road. Looked good beach. Ten minutes to Newquay and about 30 to Padstow.
Reasonable stay overall.

I stayed here last night for the second time as I was working in the area and it didn't disappoint for a second time. Lovely Wee place with a nice friendly bar and staff. I got apartment 2 to myself for a really good price. It's a few minutes walk from the most gorgeous beach ever and the mermaid down the road is exceptional for food 👌🏻

Recently spent 11 nights at Porth lodge which is a lovely old building with all the character and charm which you would expect of a 17 century property. The rooms were clean and fresh linen was provided on a regular basis, a regime of steady upgrade is also ongoing. This isn't a luxury pretentious 4/5star hotel it is what it is, a friendly, family run business which enables you to wind down. It is located just outside busy Newquay, yet has great accessibility to Truro, Padstow, Mawgan, Watergate Bay and is in easy walking distance to local amenities. The lodge itself is nestled into the hill near the beautiful Porth bay close to beautiful rolling countryside; great for walking to beautiful bays and beaches.

The whole team were welcoming and friendly, they did everything possible to ensure our stay there was relaxing and enjoyable! The food was a really good standard throughout the stay at both breakfast and evening meals and generous portion sizes provided. Without a doubt the staff made our stay, the lodge is a family run business and they provided a home from home feel throughout our stay. Would definitely stay here again and will recommend to friends and family, thank you for a great holiday!!!
