“Possibly the best hotel in newquay”
Reviewed 31 October 2011

Stayed here for 2 nights in August with my friend. We booked the night before arriving, 120 pounds for 2 nights we thought was reasonable (30 pppn). Upon arrival we were made really welcome, no rules thrown in ur face as soon as you walk in! We were each given a key for the front door and the room. We are both 19 so asked if there was any curfew and there wasn't. We opened the door to our room and was pleasently surprised to see we had one of the biggest rooms in the hotel! We had only booked a twin room but had a huge double bed and one single, which we were really pleased with. A beautiful bay window 3 mirrors in the room and 2 dressing tables was perfect for 2 teenage girls and there was loads of room for our clothes. The bathroom was beautiful fresh white towels, a lovely tray with several clean glasses. Spotlessly clean, the hotel smelt beautiful and u can tell it is well looked after. We sat on the patio and talked to one of the owners, they have a lovely dog called biscuit and as my friend works with animals she was over the moon. We went out on the first night and didn't return til early hours so we slept in. We weren't disturbed to go down for breakfast (which was free! We didn't know this when we booked so it was a nice surprise) everyone is so friendly and although we never actually had breakfast as it was purely a party weekend and we weren't up in time, we had a wonderful stay. Absolutely no noise and on the saturday morning we slept off our hangovers til 2pm without hearing a sound! Overall a lovely family friendly hotel and we will definetly be staying again next time we go to Newquay. :)
We stayed in room 4 and will request this room next time we stay as it was beautiful!

Staid there just for 1 night. The room was rather small but there's enough place especially if you're not planning to spend much time indoors. All the facilities worked well, we didn't have any problems with shower, TV, etc.
The hotel is located in 2 minutes walk from the town centre.
If I have a chance to go to Newquay again I would definitely like to stay at this place.

It's a B&B that provides all the necessary requirements but it could do with some basic maintenance.

I'm afraid I can't agree with some of the other reviews here.

The bedrooms are small, the showers/taps don't provide water (hot or not) on the 3rd floor when anyone else in the building is using the water. In all it looks tired and could do with a bit of a clean and some decoration.

During our week long trip, we stayed in 5 other B&Bs for the same nightly rate to wiithin £5 and unfortunately, this was the worst for the price and facilities. We had to change rooms because of facilities issues and they were both similar.

The location is ok as long as a bit of a walk to get to bars and restaurants is ok.

The car park holds 4 cars and the desk clerk used one of the spaces, so make sure you understand the street parking situation as we couldn't find an off road car park within a reasonable distance. All the street parking we could see was taken as well as the three remaining places in the car park.

Breakfast was ok.

Apart from some noise when people were returning to the B&B after a night out, overnight was silent, therefore sleep was good.

At one point considered moving to the B&B across the road which had vacancies.

We stopped at the Surfside in September and were very impressed. For £25 per person per night you dont expect the Ritz, but you do expect the basics which you certainly get. It's clean, it's comfortable, the facilities are fine, a friendly welcome and a good breakfast.
Location is very good too, only 3-4 minutes walk from the town, just beware the short but very steep hill there and back!
Our room had a sea view too which was a lovely bonus.
The breakfast area is very homely and spacious too and you can sit and watch the world go by as you're tucking in. The car park only holds probably 3 vehicles but it is a free facility nonetheless, and i think street parking is free too.
If and when i go back to Newquay i'll be booking here. Highly recommended

The Surfside Stop is a small-medium bed & breakfast which was one of the cheapest available when I stayed.

For the price I paid (£50 a night for a double room) it was excellent.

The room was very simple but clean and comfortable, with a nice double bed, alarm clock, TV with DVD player, and a very small but clean and pleasant en-suite bathroom with shower cubicle.

The owners were very helpful and friendly, and the breakfast was excellent.

The location is great, very close to the bathing beach (although quite far from the surf beach, Fistral) and the shops. The disadvantage is that some noise from clubbers / revellers could be heard, but this is a common experience in Newquay. If you are a partier, the lack of curfew at the Surfside Stop was very useful.

The hotel also had a private car park, which although very cramped was very useful.

The downside of this b&b is that it is very Spartan - do not expect the facilities of a larger hotel. However, if like us you are looking for a good-value place to sleep while enjoying a brief stay in Newquay, look no further.
