“We would definitiely go again!”
Reviewed 31 October 2009

After having read all the negative reviews on this website - I was really dreading going there - we stayed in a Atlantic Premier 2 bedroom. Yes there was a bit of a musty smell in the place when we got there, but this was soon eliminated with some air freshener that I had taken (after having read previous comments). It was very clean, well equipped and my 7 yr old son loved the pool - although it couldve been a couple of degrees warmer for me ( I like it more like a bath!) The only downside really was the evening entertainment - we did 2 nights and that was enough! - not our cup of tea really, but A lot of the other residents seemed to really enjoy themselves. Drinks at bar are expensive, we also had dinner in the restaurant on our last night - it was lovely - I had ribeye steak and it was cooked to perfection! (medium rare). Never got a chance to use the spa - unfortunately.

We stayed at Atlantic Reach on the basis of the pictures we saw on the Atlantic Reach website. The apartments looked extremely modern and very nice. We were looking forward to having our first holiday together as a family, me, my partner and our 14 month old son.

We booked to stay in a 2 bed PREMIER apartment and took advantage of the discount on offer throughout the month of September. We requested a non-smoking\non-pet apartment. However, we discovered a few days prior to leaving that most of the apartments don't have a bath, in fact only two of the 2 bed premier apartments have a bath!!! Having discovered this fact, I rang Atlantic Reach and asked for an apartment with a bath in it. Fortunately one was available. We also requested a high chair on booking. More about the high chair later.

When we arrived we reported to reception and I instantly noticed pieces of paper attached to the reception desk and in front of the reception staff which read "SMILE" and "BE HAPPY". Not a good start. However, I found the reception staff helpful and courteous. Having got the keys to our apartment we drove to our alloted apartment. When we finally managed to open the patio doors and walked in we were met with a musty damp smell. It was clear that the apartment was a smoking allowed and pets allowed apartment. It stank. Our immediate impressions of the apartment were not good. The curtains in front of the patio doors were holding on for dear life by the curtain hooks which were bent to kingdom come. We looked round the rest of the apartment and the apartment did not reflect the pictures we saw on the website at all.

The kitchen I must say was of a good standard and very well equiped. However, the cutlery had seen better days and the cooker was beyond comprehension when trying to use it as all the dials were worn. The cupboard under the stairs had a mop that had obviously been put back in there wet and was partly responsible for the bad smell in the apartment. The sofa was old and worn, and when we wiped it with a wet paper towel, the paper towel was black!!! The leatherette cushions had patches of leatherette torn off them. There wasn't a piece of matching skirting board throughout the downstairs. The coffee table was stained to high heaven and back. The lamp did not work (we bought a new bulb for it as the ones supplied did not fit). There wasn't one matching bulb in the kitchen lights (isn't important, but this is a premier apartment remember). The remote control for the TV had been wounded in action as the battery cover was held in place by (would you believe it) a piece of elastoplast!!!! The toaster didn't work, you had to work for it and help it to hold the bread down. Remember the high chair? There wasn't one. When we went to reception to enquire of it's whereabouts, the receptionist pointed to a sad lonely looking high chair propped up in the corner and said we could have it. We approached the chair with caution as it was alive and growling with the remnants of the previous hirers breakfast, dinner, tea and supper. The chair was sponsored by Heinz and was branded with slogans of Beans and Spaghetti!!!! Anti-bacterial spray beckoned.

Upstairs, the twin bedroom door could not be closed because the one bed of the two beds was in the way and extended beyond the opening for the door. The one cupboard in the twin room stunk of musty dampness and the attempt at providing the cupboard for use as a wardrobe was amateur. There was some sort of make shift table in the cupboard which resembled something that was made in 1st year woodwork at school. One of the electric sockets was loose and dangerous in the twin bedroom. This however was repaired having reported it to reception.

The beds were so uncomfortable, the bedsheets were starched to hell. When you moved round in the bed the sheets were creaking they were so hard. You would have been forgiven for thinking you were sleeping on rubber sheets!!! The bathroom was funny. There was an enormous crack in the sink and the pull cord for the light had an Itchy and Scratchy key ring attached to it so you had something to grip when switching on the light. Nice touch-very PREMIER and value for money. The hot water was so hot it would have melted your skin if prolonged contact was made. You could have made a cup of tea directly from the hot water tap, forget the kettle. Very dangerous with young children. If you don't like dogs, don't visit as the place is awash with them. We thought we were at a dog training camp.

If you get a discount of any sort, I believe you get put in the apartments that are well below par. When I told the receptionist of our experience and our disappointment, I was told that the apartment in which we stayed was a premier apartment and offered value for money (gas masked not provided in the fee) and had been updated!!! Yea, from which era - the 1950's to the 1980's!!!? We left a day early as we couldn't face another night of smelly bedrooms and lack of sleep from starchy sheets and lumpy beds. It would have been fruitless should we have complained, because we required an apartment that had a bath for our 14 month old to be washed (showers are alien to him at this stage in his life). The other apartment that was equipped with a bath was also booked out.

Atlantic Reach is perfect for exploring the beautiful surrounding areas of Cornwall. We won't revisit. If you have children that are a few months old, book to stay somewhere more central like Newquay because once you return to your apartment, there is no where else to go for a walk to our knowledge other than the grounds of Atlantic Reach. You can only do so many laps of the grounds There are only so many times you can go swimming. Our experience was a mixture of One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest and The Shining "Red Rum".

Pool was nice, changing rooms not very clean, gym was excellent, okay site otherwise. House was reasonably comfortable (5 adults 2 infants), no towels provided, beds a bit small, squeeky, not terribly comfy, but it was very clean on our arrival. The location is excellent, ideal spot for exploring this area. We didn't use bar. We found reception quite friendly on the whole. We probably wouldn't return here, I am sure there are nicer resorts around to try (beware Rettalack - especially if they have a coroporate do on, very noisy, not family friendly!)

We are repeat customers, which speaks for itself. Staff were helpful and friendly, they did what they said they would do. Accommodation is well cleaned, in fact our chalet appeared to have been updated since our previous visit. I cook, so we never use the restaurant. My only quibble is, as a cook, the equipment in the kitchen of the chalet is basic - the saucepans are of poor quality, which is short-sighted in a site which offers self-catering; there is no whisk and only one wooden spoon, the rest of the cooking spoons and ladles, etc are plastic, which seems to be a really bad idea. That said, overall standard of complex is perfectly OK considering what it costs and what its intended for. On-site facilities are good - Spa was good, as was swimming pool and equipment in the gym is great and the gym manager is excellent by way of being helpful and unobtrusive simultaneously. Atlantic Reach is in a convenient location to get to the rest of Cornwall and absolutely fine for a childless couple coming outside of peak season. We'll be back.

We have stayed at atlantic reach 3 times in the past 2 years and can safely say this park is fantastic for a family wanting to explore the delights that cornwall has, due to its fantastic location.
first the plus points, We have previously stayed in the 4 bed accomodation, but this time we went for the 2 bed premier, which has to be said was well equipted and comfy (apart from the beds), the cooking facilities were fantastic in the house, but if you are like us there are plenty of takeaways nearby. as i have previously said the best part about Atlantic Reach is its great location to get around cornwall, you can reach any part of the county within the hour and not touch one of those horrible little lanes that you can sometimes come across.
There is also a regular bus service that picks up from the park every hour, and it is regular. to the person that complained about it, i would suggest reading the timetable.
My personal preferences for places to visit would be, Crantock Beach, Padstow, Cardinham Woods (fantastic for dogs), Polperro, Kingsley village food hall and Lizard Point.
Now for the bad points, Don't book anything less than the 2 bed premier, the other house are quite bad. the park does give the impression of a council estate as you drive in which the owners really need to address because i could see it putting off guest when they arrive. This was the the first time we stayed peak season and it was a bit like a car park with cars just dumped on the roads around the park.
All in all, i would recommend this for anybody who don't just stay on the park and like seeing diffferent sights, I wouldn't recommend this park to anybody using this as a base for nightclubbing in newquay & familys that only stay on the parks griounds.

Stayed at a privately owened house, that was very nice and clean, but double bed was most uncomfortable. We have a disabled person in our party, which was made clear, pity they didn't tell us that it isn't suitable on the whole for people with disabilities, very hilly and pot holed roads!. Half the things they advertised was not available, bouncy castle , trampouline and coffee shop. Changing facilities at the pool inadequate, we were crammed in like kippers! The entertainment at night was dire . We heard alot of people complaining about it, and when we asked if they would return, no one said they would, and they would not recomment it. Staff unhelpful and not friendly
