“You need a car unless you stay on site all the time”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2010

We stayed at this resort last week and it was a nightmare. The location is 7 miles from Newquay and there is no bus that can take you into Newquay, so you are stuck on site unless you want to use your car all the time. The nearest bus stop is a good mile away but not walkable as it is a busy main road with no lights at night.
There is no shop on site as advertised, you can buy milk and bread from reception, but they don't advertise this, we found out by chance one day when we were in reception.
The accommodation is clean and tidy, the issue we had was that the shower did not drain when you had a shower and the toilet nearly overflowed when you flushed it. When reported to reception there first words were "did you book direct with us, because if you didn't you need to get onto them to sort it out" not helpful. This never did get resolved as there was never anyone in maintenance available when we went to report it.
The food was OK, but nothing out of this world and we really couldn't have spent a week eating in the restaurant. In actual fact we stayed in Newquay and paid for B & B for three nights out of the week as we could not stand to be stuck on site all the time with nothing to do, all the entertainment had finished by last week, so all you could do was watch TV and drink in the bar.
If you are looking for somewhere to go with children then this may be ideal if you don't want to go anywhere other than the site as there is a pool and a small play area, but if you want anything more, then this is not the place for you.

we stayed at atlantic reach in aug 2010 to use as a base for visiting cornwall. it is quite a big site with lots of houses close together but thought it was quite well maintained and didnt look like a council estate!!.
House was very modern and loads of space , there isnt much parking next to the houses but the main car park cant be more than a few minutes walk away. Our kids 6 and 2 absolutely loved it; the kids entertainment was great -there was something different each morning and afternoon and in the evening a disco with kids games etc. We only stayed on site on day in bad weather so only used the kids daytime activities once which was a visit from the local owl sanctuary and was v.good.
Childrens entertainers steve ,terri and especially echo the dolphin in the evening were v.good. Bar prices were expensive but wine good quality .
Had an outdoor park, trampoline and indoor soft playgym, so excellent facilities for under 10's, and they had a separate teenagers den which we didnt use but thought was a good idea. pool ok,bit busy at times but was clean and modern.
Would go back again -think some of the previous reviews are a bit harsh and i would recommend booking through cornwall holiday lodges as was £200 cheaper than atlantic reach website and still included leisure facilities etc.
The bar area has kids entertainment on til 9pm then from 9pm there was a singer/cabaret which we didnt see as took kids to bed but seemed quite popular.
Lovely beaches nearby were watergate , crantock and pollyjoke and went on day trips to heligan gardens and eden project which was only about 30 mins away. I wouldnt recommend atlantic reach if you wanted to be somewhere quiet and typically cornish or didnt have kids but for a holiday park which has lots of things nearby and lots of fun for children then its a good choice. but shop around!!

Again, we were unsure what to expect having read some of the reviews but were very pleasantly surprised. We stayed in one of the 4 bedroom villas. It was myself, my husband, 2 boys aged 12 & 8 and my parents. There was plenty of room for all of us with a choice of bedrooms. My only complaint was the the beds and pillows were very hard - luckily we took our own pillows with us but would recommend taking a mattress cover also which might help with the beds. I am 7 months pregnant and round it really uncomfortable. There is only 1 TV in the accommodation also. We had taken our PS3 with us to keep the boys entertained in the evening so could have done with another TV so would recommend that you take a portable with you if you plan to stay in. We used both the pools (only used the outside once and was warm enough for me to swim) but made most use of indoor pool which was good. We also used the tennis courts but took our own equipment. We only stayed on site one night so cant really comment on the entertainment. We had planned all along to use the site as a base to go exploring and it was perfectly placed for this. Newquay was about a 15 min drive and there was a Morrisons supermarket 10 mins away to stock up. We were able to have bbq outside our accommodation but you do need to take your own. There was no on site shop which would have been helpful to stock on basics of bread, milk, etc (although I understood you could buy some stuff at reception). There is a co-op just a couple of mins down the road - turn left out of the site, then right at Newquy Road which was handy but you do need to drive as no pavements. Would definitely recommend and would go back. We also went to Springfields which was a activity farm about 15 mins drive away. Don't be put off on arrival as it does look rather cheap and tacky but we had a lovely time. Loads to do - trampolines, pony rides, boats, go karts, etc and lots of lovely animals. We had a great time - cost us about £26 for a family ticket but we were there for about 6 hours. There were plenty of restaurants and places to eat in Newquay and on the road into Newquay. Would recommend the Griffin pub on the main road in Newquay - had a really nice homecooked meal and good value. Also obligatory Wetherspoons just opposite - great for food and drinks.

We have just got back from holidaying at Atlantic Reach and after reading all the reviews on here we were a little worried to what was awaiting us but we need'nt have worried. when we first pulled in we were faced with the grey small looking chalets/villas but on getting to reception we were greeted by a friendly smiley face who checked us all in and gave us loads of information about places to visit and do while at Atlantic Reach. We found our villa and was pleasantly surprised to find that further round the park were lovely looking coloured places, we stayed in a pink one much to my niece's delight!!. There were 8 of us in total 5 adults and 3 children 10,6 and 5 and we stayed in the 4 bed villas and were surprised to find three bathrooms in the property.......once settled in we took a look around then went into where the entertainments were.....WOW a bloke behind a dj box playing music!!!!! hmnnnn we left after an hour as bored stiff. Maybe some sort of welcome night could be better. We tried other nights too but had some cranky bloke singing songs and a childrens entertainer that told jokes that adults got but kids didn't hmnnnn and then to top it all off NOTHING was in place for our last night apart from the dj in the box again............This is a really nice place as a base to explore as not too far from Newquay itself and we spent many days on different beaches in Newquay, Perranporth and Truro and did days out to the Zoo and Oasis Pool which was fab as loads of flumes and climb on things for all ages shame was on another holiday park would have been nice to be on ours but our outdoor pool you couldn't swim in without getting mouthful of leaves and dirt from the over hanging trees and the indoor pool had way too much Chlorine in it. The golf course looked really good and as my two sons loved playing they wanted to try it out but lo and behold they didn't have any clubs small enough and we so wish had taken our own so could not make use of this either. Apart from this we made it a good holiday as had been looking forward to it for some time as last holiday was 10yrs ago as a family.

Having read the reviews on this site, i actually dreaded going but we had a fantastic time, accommodation was excellent, nearly refurbished, all mod cons, flat screen tv etc. Restaurant a bit expensive for snacks. Children loved the play areas. Spa very good, lovely therapists- Yas and Paula well recommended for some chill out time. Planning our return trip

This is the third time we have stayed at the Atlantic Reach resort. That fact tells you we quite liked the place. However read on if you are booking through a third party as access to the facilities **may** have changed since 2009. And not in a good way.

First a general review. The site is situated on the main road to Newquay on the A392. Its sort of in the middle of nowhere so you need a car to travel. The site comprises of several self catering 'apartments' with various grades of standard. There is an indoor and outdoor pool, gym, bar and some form of entertainment during the high season amongst other things.

The accommodation has always seemed reasonably well furnished to me on all three of our visits (1 officially booked direct, twice through a third party). I think I read ome of the lower standard units are due a referb in the near future.

In order to save money we booked through a third party booking firm to book a privately owned unit. This means that the private owners need to pay an affiliate fee in order for their guests to have use of all of the facilities. Some do, so don't. It never really bothered us that much as our children were a bit young for us to make use of the late night entertainment. **CHECK BEFORE BOOKING THROUGH A THIRD PARTY(i.e. not directly) IF USE OF THE FACILITIES ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU***

Gripe 1: Previous to January 2010 you could still access the bar and the restaurant regardless of whether the affiliate fee was paid by the accommodation owner. This is no longer the case. You can't use any of the facilities (except the paid for spa treatment).

Gripe 2: Atlantic Reach used to let guests who booked through third parties and didn't have access to the facilities the opportunity to pay an amount to gain access for the week. This is no longer the case.

I can understand why point 1 and 2 have been changed. The resort clearly wants to up their revenue creating a differentiator from their own high priced accommodation and the much lower priced privately owned accommodation. Fair enough, the booking agent should have made it clear when booking.

However:

3. We were denied access to the on site takeaway. This really, really, really annoyed me. It stinks of pettiness beyond comprehension. I just wanted to get some food on the night of arrival after a long drive. Why on earth the management deem it reasonable to not let me spend money in their resort is totally beyond me, particularity in this financial climate. I'm taking no space, I'm using no facilities, simply buying food which presumably isn't a loss making venture for the vendor. Idiotic in the extreme.

Anyway, should you find yourself in the same position here are some tips:

1. There are chinese, indian and fish and chip takeaway in Indian Queens (5 mins drive)
2. The Quint (pub) is a 10 minute drive away, turn right out of the main gate and keep on the same road. Its on the right just before a roundabout. Average food but kids eat free before 6:30.
3. If you want to go swimming then the Oasis pool is available on a holiday park on the same road/direction as the Quint.

The advice on this review is absolutely correct.

Bookings can be made directly with owners or agencies, but you must check whether you will still receive the same services and use of facilities as booking direct with Atlantic Reach.

I have seen a family standing at Reception, politely being informed that they can't use the leisure facilities. This is not the ideal way to start a holiday, and is also unfair on the girls on Reception who have to pass on the disappointing news.

So please check before you book, and enjoy the stunning places to explore in Cornwall.

Hi to any one like us who booked with out reading the reviews first !
I would like to say this place was great, I am 29 and travelled with my husband, 2 children aged 7 and 3 and our friends again 2 children aged 9 and 7 and 2 adults. we are both professional people who work full time and do not live on a council estate so when i read that comment posted on this site i had all sorts of pictures in my head ! BUT We had a great time. The park is about 10 minutes drive from newquay and close to all local attractions! On driving in to the park the first thing you see is obviously the first houses that were build when atlantic first opend, they look slightly dated from the outside but inside they all seemed fine, they are grey in colour, this might be why people are refering to this as ' looks like a council estate'?? We stayed in the 4 bed detached houses a little more in to the complex and they were stunning. I couldnt fault anything about our stay!! we could be picky and say the knifes in the kitchen were not the best, the house do not have any towels in them, we arrived and the heating was on! but you know what the place was a base for us to be together as a family and that is what we did. the house was imac and very well equiped. The evening entertainment was what it said, FAMILY entertainment! if you want to get wasted and listen to club music go in to newquay ... but if you like me love watching your kids dance their hearts out and laugh freely then the entertainment was good. We got to chill out and have a drink while our children were playing games. We didnt use the kids clubs as both me and my husband work full time and see our holiday with our girls as our time, so i can not comment on them. the pool and fac's are fine. Coudl do with a few more foats etc but again, we brought our own.

Over all I would give a 9 out of 10 and would go back again.
