Our family stayed in the Minerva Hotel, all 7 of us and the hotel manager John and all the staff were very helpful and very down to earth, very approachable about anything from helping with luggage, directions to various locations in Newquay, where to go with our teenage children and young 4 year old grandson, right down to asking how we like our eggs cooked, absolutely fantastic and everyone made us very comfortable, Our room had a brilliant view of the island and all around the towan bay, the bar inside the hotel was reasonably priced and if John didnt have a certain beverage he would make sure you had it the next evening.

Thanks John for a very enjoyable stay we will be coming back soon.........promise

Myself and my children have stayed a few times and booked in for this year too. It's not posh or fancy, it's homely and welcoming. The friendliest place we've stayed by far, hence why we continue going. It's always clean and tidy. John and the staff bend over backwards to be helpful. Children are very welcome here. There's a pool room with big screen and music, a friendly bar and lounge area, Breafast is always lovely and the location is inbeatable!

what can i say what do want!!!!,a lovely little hotel,no glamour but clean and tidy, but an owner and staff that will do everything for you, clean room lovely modern linen,tv that works(what can i say,we stay in holiday inns up and down the country and you dont get that),but the welcome and the helpfulness of the staff(they become friends),but to the hotel,1 minute from the town centre(but just far enough from the main hub),two minutes walk down to the harbour(we saw seals swimming there),sneeze out of the bedroom window and it would land on the beach below(30 seconds walk),incredible views, but back to the main thing about the hotel, its not 5 star,maybe4,but the welcome you get and the helpfulness, places to visit, places to eat, even a windbreak to take to the beach, the staff all remember your first names, what more could you ask, just booked again to go back in september, its a little gem, thank you to john and all his staff, see you soon

The hotel is of the no frills kind typical of Newquay and unless you opted for the Ritz-on-Sea elsewhere (clue: there isn't one) then you'd be hard pressed to find a better place to stay. The rooms are perfectly acceptable being clean, having en-suite facilities and a telly in every room. While I was there in low season I saw that the owner John had no problem filling vacant rooms from passing trade after allowing people a sneak preview of the available rooms (100% uptake) so i'd be weary of the not so complimentary reviews, it ain't bad at all. Newquay has a reputation for being the epicentre of stag+hen parties so any guesthouse with a larger capacity like this one could be considered so if your coming to Newquay peak season for any other type of stay then come with your eyes open as you'll have to put up with this wherever you decide to stay. That being said, this is Johns home as well and he is very careful about whom he invites to stay, I had a very pleasant pint of lager with him at his bar and a friendly chat during which time he took a phone call re. a short notice group booking, a stag group who were unable to go on their original getaway due to the Icelandic ash cloud. Swiftly making his excuses he declined the business. I asked why and he told me it was a judgement call based on speaking to the person on the end of the line - simple haha.
