“Beautiful beach”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

A beautiful clean and well maintained beach. Lots of
good things to do from surfing and bodyboarding to just swimming in the warm blue sea. Wetsuit and sunbed rental is cheap.also board hire is cheap.

“Clean but cramped”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

Water seemed relatively clean, and no sign of rubbish around, which can ruin so many UK beaches. We parked on the edge of town and walked down to the beach via a bit of the coastal path and the harbour, which is traversable at low(ish) tide.

The beach itself is a mix of sand and rather large rocks, which are a feature of the Cornish coastline. If you are surprised by them, you haven't done your research! There are three or four distinct beach areas in their own little coves and at low tide you can walk easily from one to the other, and nip into one of the caves at one end. However, the tide seems to turn quite quickly, so you could find yourself stuck in a different area from where you intended if you don't watch out. There is also a mini-beach by the harbour that seemed to be frequented by younger families, and that looked pretty safe and sheltered.

This was a midweek visit, outside school holidays, and it ended up being quite cramped as the tide came in, so it might be a bit too hectic in high season. Didn't get in the water, apart from wading up to shin level, but it was pretty cold.

Lifeguards are on duty, and they seem to keep any eye out for any shenanigans, shaming offenders via loudspeaker, but it is comforting to know they are around.

If you are visiting for the day, I recommend avoiding the town centre if possible as it is a dump.

“Great beach.”

The water & beach was clean, close to centre of Newquay. Good choice of food & activities/shops. Good family beach for all ages and plenty of life-guards on duty.
