“Nice hotel, great location.”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

Stayed for two weeks, location is great, just outside Newquay but close enough to walk to/from, takes about 10-15 minutes. Bit over priced for what you get hotel wise, but you pay for the location, great views, quiet, no traffic, beach on your doorstep, golf course 5 mins drive away.

Very friendly staff, always happy to help. Food in the Bistro is good, didn't try the formal restaurant. Heated outdoor pool, plus small pool and spa facilities inside, so you can have a dip regardless of the weather. Our son loved the place.

Rooms are nice, good house keeping, everything you'd expect inside but a tad small for the price. The hotel has big open public spaces, even though it was full it doesn't feel full, nice to chill out in. The only thing that was bad was the internet access, quite slow. If your visiting Newquay you can't go wrong with this hotel, we would return again.

Thank you so much for your very kind review and for rating your stay at The Headland so highly, very much appreciated.
We have an enviable location and so many facilities close to hand for the perfect short break or indeed holiday. Even those of us who see it every day throughout the year never take it for granted and certainly tire of it.
We are confident that our rates are competitive for the standard of accommodation and overall service and facilities we offer. Our rates have wide variances according to a number of factors including, time of year, room preference and availability. We very much recommend early booking for the lowest rates, as well as booking direct with the hotel to ensure the perfect choice for your personal needs can be selected.
Best wishes and hope to see you for your next stay here on the beautiful North Cornish coast.

I have recently spent 3 nights at this beautiful hotel over a busy August bank holiday weekend & enjoyed every second of it. I don't agree with any of the poor reviews this hotel has been given, I feel they are quite petty & moaning for moaning sake, it was after all the busiest weekend of the year with the hotel fully booked & must also take into consideration general public who use the bar/restaurant the service may run a little slower at times but even then a polite member of staff would inform you if any delay... My experience was a faultless & totally enjoyable one & my girlfriend & I at times felt as though we was the only guests in the hotel as the wonderful staff made u feel so welcome. All the staff deserve a massive thank you & they really are a credit to this great holiday hotel. Special mention to Greg (also assisted by Tom & Abbie) for their help in an hair drier incident on a busy Saturday evening (funny), to Ryan & Kerry for showing a "we will go the extra mile" attitude to please guests needs, all the spa staff who actually saw my girlfriend more so than myself the weekend, Sarah & Clara for their friendship & personal touches. But our stars of the show are 1: Regan, who is the most pleasant, funny, friendly & very helpful & 2: Juan, who was fantastic with everyone, always had a smile on his face, took time to know you & could do enough for us, he his everything the headland hotel is, world class. Cannot wait to return. Adam Paget & Julie Cooper.

Myself and my Grandparents decided to take a short 3 night break at the Headland Hotel. My Grandparents had previously stayed here, over 30 years ago, and suggested this as a quick and relaxing get-away. When we arrived, the checking in process was simple and quick, we were whizzed up the lift with one of the receptionists to our room. As soon as we entered the room (a Family Suite) we saw the wonderful sea in all its greatness. That night we dined in the Restaurant, we were shown to our table (which had an absolutely breathtaking view) and we were given our Menus. We asked for bread and a jug of water, this simple request puzzled the waiters as it took over 40 minutes for 6 slices of cold bread to come! This was only the beginning of a pattern which would last the three nights. Food took what seemed an eternity to arrive, although when it did, it was very nice. The desserts were lovely but again, they took a while to arrive. And this certainly wasn't down to the busyness of the place, it was almost empty! Breakfast was a buffet-style with a wonderful selection, although being under lights for a few hours didn't do the bacon any good. On the terrace, service was slightly better although all we ordered was three drinks! The waiters repeatedly asked us to spell out the name 'Cook', how hard is that to spell?

Overall, the hotel has plenty going for it, the views are simply breathtaking, the hotel itself is a classic Victorian design, and the Chef's food is amazing, standards have dropped though. And unfortunately I feel that I myself would not stay there again.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are simply stunning!

We have stayed at this hotel several times both within the hotel and the cottages. Every time we stayed the food has been great and facilities are fab, and like I say, the view out to sea with a sunset is breath taking. I would like to stay that it has been a couple of yrs since we stayed so I cant comment on their new spa.
My only negative would be that they have now out priced alot of families who used to go. It is far to expensive now for what you get. Myself and my family have stopped going due to the increase in price.

Room Tip: Although expensive the cottages are very nice and give you the views with good space.

As regulars at the Headland we stay because of the great location, the work they have been doing dramatically improving the hotel and the staff are always great - particularly Richard in the Brasserie. However this trip the team excelled themselves. We asked reception to call a taxi. Despite the taxi's assurances the taxi let us down and there was no car. The Assistant Manager Adam stepped in and drove us to the station and we literally made it on time running up the platform with the driver holding off leaving until we got on. I had a plane to catch and making that train was a huge plus. This last piece of exemplary service at the end of another great stay cements the Headland as my favourite place to stay in the South-West. I don't measure service when all is well, it is when things go wrong that you see the strength of a place. Great service and a great hotel.

We chose this hotel for its location its quality and its family and dog friendliness. We were not disappointed with any of these. We stayed in a lovely cottage with fantastic sea views our own small outside space and 2 bedrooms with en suites. It was clean smart and homely. It created the opportunity to enjoy the advantages of self catering with hotel facilities. Our son loved the tennis courts outdoor heated pool and the pitch and putt. We were easily able to arrange tennis coaching and surf lessons . It was great to have such easy access to such a beautiful beach, and no need for sandy sandwiches with the cottage so close at hand.
I was surprised to read reviews that were critical of the reception staff, we found them helpful and friendly and one lovely lady looked after our dog at reception for a few hours to let us eat out one lunch time.
previous comments relating to service in the restaurant did match our experience, the food was good and the service friendly just not very efficient considering the prices, main course didn't arrive together and wine to compliment out min mel arrived as we were finishing- we only ate there once
overall a very good holiday blessed with good weather and really worked for us- would return visit

Many thanks for your very favourable review. I am delighted that you all enjoyed your Cottage holiday here on the north coast of Cornwall. It would certainly seem that these beautifully located, private and cosy just go from strength to strength in popularity! In fact we could do with even more of them at certain times of the year.

Great to know that on site facilities like Tennis and surfing all worked for your family members, additionally you that you benefitted from our informal arrangement to baby sit, well behaved, four legged guests on request!

Look forward to seeing you again in the future,

Kind regards

Darryl

The Headland location is amazing. Alas that is the peak of its appeal. Our expensive room had a great view but was very small and cramped - possibly more of a large cupboard? Service was always slow wherever in the hotel and no spa is relaxing with kids taking over, shouting and jumping in the pool. Must mention Maeve who was a friendly, efficient and professional restaurant host. However it was nice seeing dogs so at home in a hotel and the team do well as it never felt overly doggy. We both had excellent, good value spa treatments but management must rapidly grasp the nettle and make the pool adults only otherwise the massive investment in the facilities will be wasted as noone will return to the least relaxing spa ever. Negates all the positives and hard work of the talented spa team. We wont rush back - Come on management pull your socks up.

Thank you for your review and for sharing your experience of The Headland.
I am really quite unsure what room you must have been occupying whilst with us, I have never actually received any of our rooms described in this way. This would include our Courtyard rooms, which offer fantastic all round value, albeit they offer an internal courtyard view only.
There is no excuse for slow service, at any time of year, and irrespective of the time of year; I would like to assure that this will be an aspect of your stay shared with our team and towards improving in the future peak periods particularly.
I am really very pleased that you had the opportunity to experience our spa and furthermore to rate them really quite highly. There are more areas of the spa to open in due course including a VIP Suite and Relaxation Lounge, offering absolute adult peace and tranquillity. However, in the meantime I would like to be quite clear, that we will never make our pool an ‘adults only’ area, and would not in any way be anything, that would fit into our business strategy. Our vision is, and always has been, to have a collection of bespoke adult treatment rooms for both double and single occupation, with full relaxation opportunities and refreshments before and afterwards. The pool will remain a mainstream facility for the use of all our guests, particularly during school holiday periods, with the introduction of some restricted children swimming times during term time.
I am sorry to read that you wouldn’t rush back to see us; considering a more suitable time of the year for your particular requirements, I feel should at least be considered?
Thank you for your feedback and with best wishes
Darryl
