We stayed for 4 nights in September 2010, in a Fistral View Suite on the first floor(meaning the view is of Fitral Beach). The cost was okay, on the basis that we had a "suite" (which was quite spacious but we didnt think it could hold more than 2 people plus small child comfortably) and was one of the refurbished rooms (as at the date we travelled, the Fistral facing rooms were the refurbished ones, and the other had not been) Best ask about that when booking - they are quite open about it. No balcony unfortunately - only a handful of rooms have those, which is a shame.

Location : on the Headland overlooking Fistral Beach - superb spot and amazing views(from the right room...). As it is on the Headland, it is quite quiet and feels more secluded away from some of the more buzzing parts of Newquay.

Comfort : very good for my wife and I plus 3 year old , and the room had no hidden traps for a child ! Lovely new(ish) comfy beds, and (thankfully) fully opening sash windows (protected by additional sliding double glazing). Bathroom was stunning, with his/hers sinks and walk in shower (though the electronic controls were not intuitive!)

We were concerned on arrival to be allocated a room over the restaurant, and (on enquiring) being told that a weding was in on Saturday night. We were not happy with that (they had not told us when booking even though we'd booked in with a small child), and despite the fact that they looked to see if another room was free, we were kept awake by some noise that night despite suggestions that it would be quite quiet (thankfully, it was not a wedding that went into the early hours)

Food : Breakfast was good - freshly made cooked breakfast of good quality, not stuff lying in buffet "coffins". We only ate one other time, and that was okay, though we felt overcharged for a "milkshake" that was patenty of the Nesquik powder variety.

Service : this is really excellent. There was the odd issue; for example, the room safe did not work, and when we checked out the bill contained te wrong room rate and was going to overcharge us considerably (somthing to do with their online booking system, which is seemingly not that reliable? There is a note on their website about it). However, every time, the people were great and sorted things out well and politely. They probably need to sort these things out though.

Other points : plenty of car parking, walkable to the beach very easily in 5 mins. There are some "cottages" run by the hotel on the Headland too, which we thought were a bit ugly, and a lot didnt appear to have a sea view, which was odd given the location (its what you'd go there for?) We'd been thinking about one for "next time" but decided against.

At about £220 per night, this was not a "budget" stay, but we'd probably go back again, for the view and the very comfy (refurbed) room.

With initial formalities efficiently dipensed with by the friendly, welcoming receptionist, there followed a tour of the very varied sumptuous amenities around the extensive ground floor, and then upstairs to look at our room. It was time to move the cases in, and introduce our bearded collie to her first hotel experience. We led her across an expance of carpet to the lift and arrived at our room to find our cases placed there by a very helpful staff member, who offered a range of doggie facilities as well as ensuring we had all we needed for a comfortable stay. Leading a dog down the spectacularly broad, carpeted stairway, via spacious furnished landings seemed almost unreal! Each day began with choosing from the enormous variety of breakfast possibilities, at the same time assessing the surfing prospects from the dining room`s superb view over Fistral Beach and beyond. The day ended, more often than expected, in the hotel bar. which unlike many in our experience was cheerfully staffed, effectively furnished and lit, with a decor that harmonised modern with historic - and to cap it all, it offering two quality local real ales! This is a lovely place to stay, in so many ways. We`ll surely come again.

We have stayed at The Headland several times in the past .... and it just seems to get better each time! We had a newly refurbished "Fistral view" room which enjoys a stunning panorama across the golf course and beach to Pentire Point. Breakfast was superb and all staff are friendly and very helpful. The whole ambience of the place is just sooo condusive to a stress-free time and we have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it.
