“Really enjoyed our visit!”
Reviewed 7 June 2012

My wife and I recently spent a very enjoyable 10 days in the Vic. A Grand Dame of a building with a touch of grandeur albeit some a little dated but so what! Comfortable room with sea view; warm at all times; friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was average. On the one evening we dined in the restaurant the food was good. The hotel is very central to the town of Newquay and an excellent location to visit all areas of Cornwall - which we did. Overall we felt we got good value and had a great holiday.

Room Tip: Sea view a must. We were upgraded without asking due to availability.

A really friendly and great located hotel in Newquay. The staff were brilliant and helpful the rooms were also fitting to the hotels heritage, if you go in summer be warned no air con so ensure the hotel has the heating off and windows open.
The bathroom is windowless and very small but thats not a reason to stay there, good location walking distance to most sights and attractions.
Get up early for brekkie its the best!

Room Tip: 208 as it was well out the way and had a flat screen room.

I will start by saying that if it was not for the fact this hotel plot is shared with a nightclub my overall review would of been closer to a three stars. The hotel is grand, the view from the bar is stunning and my room on the first floor was large and very comfortable. Unfortunately though i am left with one comment I want to pass on and that is if you want to use this hotel to get any sleep you should avoid at all costs due to the noise from the adjoining nightclub and mostly from the noise made by people coming and going. £100 a night not very well spent.

This hotel could do with massive investment just to improve the basic hotel amenities, my room was a sea view which was nice except for over looking a terrace covered in sea gull business. The room was full of damp and what looked like mould, thankfully was clean. The bathroom was ok apart from the shower which was terrible, so I decided to run a bath, wish I hadn't, the water was a dark brown colour, awful! No Internet in the room only in the down stairs lounge, which was not exactly that fast. The lounge it self was nice and relaxing, with comfortable sofas. Very good central location in town, but I would guess if I had a road side room could get very noisy especially when the night club next door closes. Next to the night club is a bar 'berties bar' very good, friendly - pleasent staff, large choice of drinks and a comfortable atmosphere. The hotel staff were ok, but unfortunately this didn't make up for the poor quality of the basics a hotel should pride itself on.

The 1st floor rooms are very big and comfortable and the staff are very helpful. It s just a bit jaded in places. Gym equipment is old and neither mirror or tv I front of treadmill makes it even more dull running there.
Like most older seaside hotels the bathrooms are all a bit different & a few cracks in plaster throughout.

Me and my partner stayed for a long weekend for 2 nights from fri to sun. The room was small but spotless we upgraded for £20 per night for a sea view, which was well worth it. It's a grand hotel with lots of pretty historical features but the decor of the rooms needs updating. The shower wasn't that good and there weren't enough plug sockets as it such an old building. the window doesn't open far enough to get air on the room on hot nights(we took a fan!) the pool and jacuzzi were lovely and quiet very close to the beach and bars etc only major complaint I have is the breakfast wasn't self serve so werent given that much :( we did a groupon deal which was a good deal but £20 per night for a sea view is quite steep

We stayed at this hotel last month through a Groupon deal so was excellent value for money! We had a beautiful large room at the front of the hotel, it was in excellent order and beautifully presented. The reception and spa staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful, however the breakfast staff in the restaurant could have been a little more welcoming. A fantastic location close to the town and amenities, unfortunately there were no sea rooms available during our stay however I imagine the views would be stunning! The food in the connected Mexican restaurant was lovely but poor service.
