We had a KGB deal here for 3 nights, Initial impressions on approaching the hotel was that it was in need of a lick of paint, however inside didn't have the same feel, yes many aspects could be modernised however that would distract from the Victorian Seaside feel. Our room was very comfortable and clean, breakfasts were great and you could order as much or as little English Breakfast as you wanted. All the staff we met were very friendly to us and our dogs. The pool and Jacuzzi area is very nice a fantastic place to unwind after a long day of walking. We had no problems with noise at night but we were the furthest away from the night club. A great place to stay especially if you get a good deal.

really enjoyed our stay for one night - would have liked more
We stayed on a cheap same day booking for dinner bed and breakfast. Great value but did have to pay extra for some of food options.
Hotel is old fashioned Victorian with lots of character. Food in restaurant was excellent and bed was very very comfortable, with good quality bed linen. Could have stayed in bed all day if not for the surfing.
Location fab for beach - had to access from main highstreet at front of hotel but short walk. No longer operated lift to beach and does not have back stair access directly to beach as some hotels do.
The swimming pool was a nice depth and sauna good. Unfortunately the thermostadt had malfunctioned that morning in the steam room making it out of action. We enjoyed the swim with spectaclular views over the bay from the pool. We swam twice during our stay.
I had a shiatsu massage in the beauty therapy room - she was fantastic - almost worth a drive to Newquay especially for another massage.
The room bathroom was compact with shower over bath, with silicone sealant - so not one of those ultra-modern flawless finish bathrooms, but it was spotlessly clean, deep bath, wonderful old glazed tiles. The bedroom was spacious clean and very well kept up. We had windows overlooking the bay. The windows opened for fresh sea air.
Restaurant overlooks the bay, with wonderful chandeliers. We ate broccoli +ginger soup / deep fried camembert and chutney for starters, both had pork medalions for main and Eton mess / cheese board for dessert. The starter and dessert were fantastic, the main very tastey, though could have been more mustard sauce and a little pinker. Plenty of food was served on each plate, all licked clean. Very moorish and good size portions.
We waited quite a while between courses, so not a place if you are in a hurry. We went out for a starry walk on the beach rather than a sunset one!
The hotel had an interesting craft fair in one of the lounges on the second day - from local folk.
The hotel was in good up keep, nicely decorated and spacious and best of all airy with doors and windows open - none of that horrid airfreshener stink or noisy airconditioning.
There were a few signs of wear in carpets on the stairs in small patches, but it is a huge Victorian hotel with all the character. All was very clean.
Breakfast was good, with saute potatoes, good bacon, properly fried mushrooms (not microwaved stewed as I have experienced at other places) good eggs (not sure if free range - probably not) fresh coffee was good.
Only niggles - sausages probably had lower meat content - guessing.
Extra charges for dinner and breakfast menu.
cheese board was an extra £2, steak would have been extra £5 each, at breakfast: salmon and scrambled eggs extra £5 - I think., eggs Benedict extra £6 each - which I think is a bit cheeky.
If I was not staying at hotel and just came in for breakfast, then to pay £6-7 for eggs Benedict is ok but not as an extra when already paid for DBB.
Really liked spacious opulent atmosphere and friendly staff - also the sea views, sea air with open windows and short walk to the beach or shops, best nights sleep I've had in a long time - nice and quiet, lovely bedding and mattress. Will definitely stay again PARKING EASY ON SITE

Room Tip: ask for a sea view room

My wife and I recently spent a very enjoyable 10 days in the Vic. A Grand Dame of a building with a touch of grandeur albeit some a little dated but so what! Comfortable room with sea view; warm at all times; friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was average. On the one evening we dined in the restaurant the food was good. The hotel is very central to the town of Newquay and an excellent location to visit all areas of Cornwall - which we did. Overall we felt we got good value and had a great holiday.

Room Tip: Sea view a must. We were upgraded without asking due to availability.

A really friendly and great located hotel in Newquay. The staff were brilliant and helpful the rooms were also fitting to the hotels heritage, if you go in summer be warned no air con so ensure the hotel has the heating off and windows open.
The bathroom is windowless and very small but thats not a reason to stay there, good location walking distance to most sights and attractions.
Get up early for brekkie its the best!

Room Tip: 208 as it was well out the way and had a flat screen room.

I will start by saying that if it was not for the fact this hotel plot is shared with a nightclub my overall review would of been closer to a three stars. The hotel is grand, the view from the bar is stunning and my room on the first floor was large and very comfortable. Unfortunately though i am left with one comment I want to pass on and that is if you want to use this hotel to get any sleep you should avoid at all costs due to the noise from the adjoining nightclub and mostly from the noise made by people coming and going. £100 a night not very well spent.
