What a fabulous 5 days we spent at the grand old Hotel Victoria in Newquay. It’s a week since we came home and I am wondering what I am doing, hanging out washing when I should be living the pampered life of luxury found at the Lady Vic.
We were 2 couples celebrating our 40th Wedding Anniversaries and my husband and I chose Lady Vic despite some disparaging remarks people had left on TripAdvisor. On our arrival we were greeted by Michael and the great team on Reception. We were all overwhelmed by the beautiful entrance and grand staircase and the view through the long lounge to the blue sky beyond the windows.
Having booked in and our cases safely brought in we ascended in the lift to our sea view suites on the 4th floor. Wow, what a fantastic view - the town of Newquay, the harbour and headland, and the cliffs and coastline way up the coast towards Padstow – and all in the glorious sunshine. The rooms were lovely, spacious and tastefully decorated and furnished. Away from town traffic we had the sound of the sea (and the odd seagull!) to lull us to sleep. Tea making facilities with plentiful supplies got us off to a good start. Breakfast was amazing. Fred, the Restaurant Manager, treated us to a feast! Cereals, fruit, croissants, pastries, toast, jam and marmalade, and the “full English”, and of course, tea, coffee and juice in abundance.
A 3-course dinner each evening was such a luxury. There was plenty of superb food on piping hot plates. Nothing was too much trouble for Fred, our waiter Matt and the team. Our pleasure, their aim!
The bathrooms were newly refurbished and just called out for a leisurely soak in the bath or shower. What splendour. It was a treat to be able to share a morning cup of tea chatting to our friends on our balconies whilst watching the antics of the early surfers in the beautiful blue sea.
After a day out visiting an attraction or location in Cornwall, afternoon tea back at the hotel in the comfortable sofas in the sun lounge was just decadent. Then a swim in the warm water of the hotel pool and a few bubbles in the Jacuzzi regenerated us for getting ready for dinner with a glass of wine followed by a couple more in the bar whilst relaxing with special friends for a special holiday in a special place. Bliss!
