“Not worth the money”
Reviewed 2 October 2011

We stayed in July 2011 for 2 nights before going on to a cottage holiday in St Ives. First impressions were very good. Impressive entrance and as we were too early to check in had a coffee and later lunch in Silks restaurant which was lovely. All in all we were looking forward to our stay.

Then came the downsides. Checked in at receiption and were immediately asked for the full cost of the break. This has never happened to us before which got our backs up. Fabulous helpful porter took our bags up to our room. Then came the disappointment. It was a superior balcony suite costing over 200 pounds a night, but was certainly not worth the money. The balcony was dirty with 2 small chairs and a small low table. The bed was comfortable but the decor was very masculine. Navy blue colouring everywhere and with dark wood feft very oppressive. Shower was absolutley pathetic, but at least the bathroom was clean.

One really bad gripe. As I said we paid over 200 pound a night, but please take note you are allowed ONE sachet of coffee each, and ONE teabag. If you want any more you have to pay 50p per sachet. This is not what you would expect from a four star hotel. Complained to reception and the freindly porter bought up some coffee. This happened both days. Even in a cheap b & b you do get a pot full of coffee and tea sachets.

All in all we would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Balcony suites are not worth the money.

Stayed for work but would go back for a holiday - loved the hotel. Gorgeous huge room with excellent views - windows the whole length of the room with a sea view, was stunning to wake up to. However blackout curtains ensured a good nights sleep. :) Had dinner in the silks bistro which was delicious.

Only minor complaint was the terrible shower - impossible to control the temperature so ended up burning my scalp! And would have liked a small gym - they only have a pool.

Location is great :)

I have visited some 30 hotels over last two years mainly in the South of England and take it from me this is one of the best if not the best. Rooms are exquisite. The service and food is first class. I've stopped here maybe 6 or 7 times which is a testiment to the hotel. But, and this is a very minor but, and it pains me to say this as I love this hotel so much, on my last stay the shower was like a dripping tap. I don't know about you but a shower has to be a power shower. Also, it is about time they changed the menu. Please also be aware due to the hotels location there's always gale force winds that give you a right battering, but of course that's not the hotels fault. Netherless, I'll be coming back here again & again & again

We booked a superior room and everything was lovely. Big comfy bed, big bath, bath robes and slippers. The location is amazing. Only a short drive or walk to Fistral beach. The staff member who booked us in was pleasant and polite. We were given a parking permit which allowed us to park outside the hotel. Breakfast was great and eggs made to deamand.

My husband and I stayed at the Atlantic Hotel for our honeymoon in August 2011. Everything about it was lovely. It was very clean and decorated beautifully, the staff were very pleasant and the champagne bar/restaurant served delicious meals. The only downfall was the place itself, we had never been to Newquay before and thought Cornwall was full of lovely pretty places, i think Newquay is probably one of the worst! The beaches were lovely, but the town centre itself wasn't very nice, in fact i would say it was a dump! But we travelled to other areas each day so this wasn't a problem, but anyone looking to stay there should definately consider staying at the atlantic, it would definately take some beating.

We had a fantastic evening learning about the origins of Sushi, making different types of Sushi and tasting! The Chef Arron was friendly and clearly passionate about the food. He also chucked in a few tips on how to improve my Yorkshire Puddings!! Would be a great night out for a group. Highly reccommended!

Room Tip: We didn't stay over night.
