“Full Hotel = No Hot Water !!”
Reviewed 23 January 2013

Spent a few days at the Atlantic Hotel ovver the New Year 2012/13. The hotel has a grand entrance hall/lobby and was well decorated for Christmas. The imposing staircase and quality carpets harped back to its glamour Victorian days, however the water staining from a number of historic roof leaks dampend it down somewhat. Our topfloor sea view room was pleasantly decorated and furnished with an excellentquality bathroom suite. Fantastic sea views. Oops - a lot of water staining to the ceiling, again from historic roof leaks. Hot water, both in quantity and temperature was somewhat reduced but at early evening the supply became a tepid trickle. Dining in the main restuarant was a little dated, wine glasses, plates and silverware a throwback to the 70's, no water glasses. Breakfast, excellent fare, buffett with great, friendly chef on hand to prepare your eggs anyway you like, his attitude is a great asset to the hotel. Dinner, a OK but again a little dated - opional starter of fruit salad, stir fried vegetables served with side dish of boiled vegetables and fruit salad an offering for desert. Bolied vegetable side order is served with all main courses, including Chicken Curry & Rice. All well cooked, but odd offerings. The bar was understaffed, and in fact could have benefitted from more on New Years Eve, good staff, however not enough. No iron or board in rooms, when asking for on from reception, told they were all out with guests, when asking if we could have one when a guest/room had finished we were told that no-one keep tab on which rooms they had gone to!! Overall a pleasant 3* hotel that maybe could benefit from an upgrading of it's mechanical services to offer constant hot water to all at all times, it's possible and not too much to expect in 2013. Wi-Fi offered but over three nights never got a connection, again it's 2013!! American Express NOT accepted, it's 2013 I cant remember a hotel not accepting all major cards. Just needs bringing up to date, unless you prefer the 70's.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are great, top floor may mean a long wait of hot water.....

My wife and I were married here on Sunday 23rd December 2012, and it was simply amazing! The hotel itself is beautiful and has a very classy finish on the inside, this coupled with the Christmas decorations/trees made everything very special. My wife and her 6 bridesmaids all stayed the night before and took full advantage of all the hotels facilities, including the spa, indoor swimming pool, restaurant etc. They even had an area cordoned off an area in the restaurant specifically for the bride and bridesmaids. The opportunity for wedding photos was varied and look spectacular - even the photographer is reccomending the hotel to other couples looking to get married quoting it as one of his '...favourite venues of all time'. The wedding meal was amazing and varied, and we are still recieving comments now about the 'wedding of the century'

The staff are very helpful and very polite and nothing was too much trouble. Looking at the other reviews here for the hotel, I have noted the comments about the heat and have to agree it was very hot, although, this did cool off after a while - or maybe it was just nerves about the big day!

Great Wedding venue!

Went to a wedding in the summer, was ok but nothing great. As we got back from the ceremony, 50 + we were greeted by one bar staff, so many were left without drinks, food was ok, but a bit slow service. Card machine not working at the bar, and we saw a cat wondering around the hotel, not too impressed by that.

We really enjoyed our recent stay. Excellent, large, clean room with great bathroom too. A joy!
Silks restaurant is also brilliant, we had a very nice meal there.
Only 1 minor complaint about the hotel - the WI-FI doesn't work.

A brief business trip to Newquay led me to book a stay at The Atlantic Hotel. As the name suggests, the residence is perched on the edge of the hill overlooking Newquay bay and the room I was offered had particularly good views even though it was a cold and wet January morning.

The hotel has a grand lobby and corridors full of character with fantastic revolving doors and a lot of character throughout the dining areas. The lady who checked me in was very helpful, offering me advice on dining options, newspapers and wifi access.

The room (302) was spotless, well equipped with a large LCD TV with Free view, plus a safe, tea and coffee facilities, a lounge area with leather bucket chairs so that you didn't have to sit on the bed to watch TV and a newly renovated bathroom. It took a few minutes to figure out the light switches as there were quite a few all doing different things but there was also the benefit of a bureau desk to work from. Wifi bandwidth was reasonably quick too with a six hour access code provided on checking in.

The champagne bar looked very impressive from afar and the a la carte menu looked tempting but I was more interested in a quick bite so walked five minutes down the hill to the Red Lion for a bit of pub grub which was great.

I think this hotel would be ideal for a romantic break with the spacious rooms, views, champagne bar, the character of the hotel and the brilliant location.

There was also a swimming pool but I did not use this.

Room Tip: A high floor (3rd is top) for the best views!

Whist i agree all the good points mentioned by others they are negated by the extreme temperature iin the hotel. It is far too hot. Sleeping was difficult and the public rooms were uncomfortable. They could save a fortune by turing it down and gain extra custom. Reading the other reviews -we are not alone - too hot is a common comment. It is a big enough issue to stop us returning to what otherwise is an excellent hotel. Noticed on checkout that even reception had a huge fan running at floor level trying to reduce the temperature.
