“Very pleasant hotel and staff”
Reviewed 13 April 2010

I stayed at the kilbirnie hotel for one night over the easter weekend and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The staff were friendly, helpfull and nothing was too much trouble. My room was clean and the food was varied and well presented. All in all a very nice hotel at a reasonable price.

The only positive memory would be the duck down bed pillow -all else was well under par. Breakfast was a disgrace 1st morning I asked for scrambled egg on toast, what arrived on my plate had been cooked hours before, it was soggy & tasteless. 2nd morning I went for the full English breakfast, the bacon was crisp the sausage had a thick skin being kept warn somewhere the rest was totally uninteresting. 3rd morning I ordered poached eggs on toast what arrived was the smallest egg in the world; unsurprisingly it must have been poached at the same time as the scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages etc… on their breakfast menu it offers cheeses, hams, croissants as part of the buffet selection (all part of the £8.50 they charge for your breakfast experience) not once was there any cheese or ham, the croissants available were under proved and also over baked stodgy to eat.
The room was a space to sleep the bathroom/ shower was tidy, but when ever I wanted to use the hot water tap for lets say hot water- there wasn’t any hot water. The one occasion I struck lucky and found hot water within the hot water tap was at 3pm on the Sunday afternoon, so I had a deep bath..
The whole experience was lacking, this hotel has to move on, it needs sky news 24 hours a day within the reception areas, restaurant every where. It needs to have a chef who cooks to-order and not on- mass at 6 am also better quality ingredients.
Locals had recommended that I stayed at the premier lodge as I would get far better value, i thought I knew best!

Just returned from a stay at the Kilbirnie. Our room was ready on arrival even though we were 3 hrs early this was cleaned well on a daily basis. The staff were very accomadating and friendly. The best part for us was the food, IT WASN'T PROCESSED RUBBISH, just good hearty meals made from fresh produce,A big thank you to the kitchen staff who very rarely get seen. Can't wait for my next visit.
Thanks again

Very pleasant and obliging staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Admittedly the bedrooms could do with a little tlc but at the price we paid we had no complaints whatever.
I even got to see the spacious and very clean kitchen and that was immediately before dinner. As a retired caterer with high standards, I would recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for a weekend in Jan, Hotel is very dated and in desperate need of a makeover. the room was decent and spacious but not very good amenities. The bar area was a dump. The prices are far too expensive for what you get. Breakfast was ok but nothing special and the evening 3 course meal which you have to book the day before for £16 was disgusting! We were told " French Soup" was going to be served but this was clearly cup a soup.....Only good point was 1 receptionist was very friendly and helpful!
I would not reccomend this hotel to anybody.

The Kilbirnie hotel is one of my favourite hotels in newquay, great location and facilities, lots of refurbishment has been going on over the last couples of years. I will again be returning next year
