“Lovely position, shame about the service”
Reviewed 13 December 2013 via mobile

Lovely position with a great deck, perfect to sit and chill whilst looking out at the beach.
The food was ok, not amazing but not bad.
There, was a singer/guitarist playing on the deck who was brilliant, really created a great atmosphere.
The staff were awful though, really ruined the visit for us and were obviously upsetting someof the other customers too. This made the pleasant atmosphere sour.
They were ignorant, totally uninterested in anything but preening and posing.
Would go back but only if the staff had changed.

Lovely pub with quality food, service was a little slow but did not spoil our visit. Great sun deck with nice views over Watergate bay.

“great place to visit”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

Just returned from a 5 night stay at Beachcombers appartments next door to the Phoenix, We had 2 really good meals here - the nachos were amazing!! All in all - good well cooked food and very friendly staff. Certainly the best place we ate whilst staying there.

“My first impressions were wrong!”
Reviewed 7 October 2013

We were staying in an apartment in nearby Porth and decided to visit the Phoenix for a meal on Saturday evening. I cringed as we approached as there was the overwhelming noise of a rock band playing and my first impressions of the pub were not good. I am very pleased to say, I completely changed my mind by the end of the evening! We went upstairs and the sound proofing was good, the noise of the band downstairs was only evident when someone opened a door.We were six in number and everyone of us had a good meal. The menu choices weren't too adventurous but we all had no problems finding something to our taste. A few of us shared the sharing platter of cold meats to start and then I went on to have cheese topped roast cod with leeks, carrots and sliced potatoes which was very nicely presented and delicious. The chef appears to be very hands on and he came out to check that we liked our meals, he seemed genuinely pleased that all feedback was positive. The bar staff all seem to be a good bunch too and the male members of our group certainly enjoyed the Cornish ale!
