We return annually to Newquay and the Mexican Cantina has become one of the highlights of our holiday.
On our first visit this holiday we were welcomed by friendly, efficient staff as usual after reserving our table in advance. One of our party usually orders the dish El Vino however the menu has been changed and it was no longer listed. We enquired whether the chef would be able to recreate the El Vino and our request was accommodated with no fuss and to perfection! We returned a few days later and three of our party chose the El Vino (medium splcy chicken cooked with mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, garlic, white wine, black pepper & cream, served with mexican rice or curly fries and a salad garnish.) The two children in our party asked for milder fajitas/quesadillas and this was again no problem.
We had two delicious meals at the Mexican Cantina and can not recommend it highly enough. We look forward to returning next year and hope to see El Vino return to the main menu eventually - who know, it may even return as El Erico, named after its biggest fan!

Thought I had to add to the reviews due to some of the negatives I have seen from some previous comments.

We went to the cantina last night as a family of 4 and had a variety of starters and mains. Every one of them were what I would expect from this style of restaurant and the service, combined with the Mexican ambience, was excellent.

So if you are looking for a spice of variety for your family on a visit to Newquay, don't give this place a miss; you will be missing out if you do

We popped in on a Thursday evening - four adults four children 5 and under. We were served in a timely manner for drinks and to order and the children were given colouring sheets and crayons which was great. The food did take longer than expected and we watched as food came out around us to tables of two which had ordered after us. But the food when it arrived was excellent and devoured by all. We haven't been to the 'other' Mexican in Newquay so can't compare but we had a very enjoyable experience and it was open at 5.30pm whereas the other didn't open until 6 pm. Definitely worth a visit if you're a Mexican fan!

Thought we would try the 'other' Mexican in Newquay for a change, but not happy with the food. Far too much cheese on the Nachos, it was sickly and the fahjita chicken was rubbish. The staff were lovely, the service was timely and efficient let down by the food, realized on way out there was a reason why it was completely empty downstairs and only a few lots of people eating. Gave it a try, but wont be back. Shame ruined a nice evening.
