We just spent a week at this holiday park and were generally very impressed. We were in a Trenance static, one level up from the basic but it was as good as the top level ones we have stayed in at other parks. The caravan was spotlessly clean, beds made up when we arrived and pretty comfortable too (for a mobile home). There were 7 of us and the caravan was big enough so that we didn't feel cramped. It appeared to be quite new, or recently refurbished. A really lovely touch was the very generous welcome pack which consisted of bread, butter, jam, milk, some tea coffee and sugar sachets and a bottle of wine. We have never experienced this before even at more expensive parks.
So far as the facilities are concerned, we didn't really use the clubhouse apart from the quiz (which we won - another bottle of wine!) but the activities appeared to be pretty varied although the park generally appeared to be very quiet, as it was not during the school holidays there were very few children around. Two of the party used the fishing pond on one occasion and had no trouble catching fish - they were practically giving themselves up. We used the pool only once, very briefly, as the weather wasn't too good, but it seemed to be a really nice area.
The surroundings were wonderful, the site is beautifully kept with small garden areas everywhere full of flowers, well maintained grassy areas and no mess or litter anywhere that we saw. There seemed to be gardeners at work all the time keeping the weeds under control. After a very windy day, all the tree debris was removed immediately. The park is very close to both Newquay and Perranporth and plenty of other very nice beaches. It is not close to any built up area so is very quiet. We didn't need to enlist the help of staff very much, but all of the dealings we had with them were positive.
Just a couple of little criticisms on the basis that constructive criticism can be helpful for future development of the site. We very much felt the lack of wi-fi. These days, so much reliance is placed on use of the internet for planning what to do, where to go, and taking advantage of online offers. I realise that this can be done prior to arrival, but English weather is so unreliable it isn't always possible to make plans until you get up and see what the weather is like that day. I also realise that many people have internet enabled phones, but not everyone does and actually the 3g reception was not that good in the area. I think that these days, access to the internet in any place that offers accommodation is essential and it surely would be possible, not necessarily all over the park but at least in the reception or clubhouse. I see that other reviewers have mentioned the shop and the bakery. I agree - the shop was not especially well stocked with essentials particularly bread first thing in the morning. I understand that the bread delivery is erratic but possibly some bread could be kept in the freezer. Obtaining bread was a bit of an issue for us, 7 people get through quite a bit and there are very few shops in the immediate area. The bakery was only open at weekends the week we were there. I appreciate that when the park is quiet it may not be worth opening it every day, but no mention was made on the website (so far as I can see) that the bakery is not open every day, there were no opening hours posted in the window, and the information given on arrival did not mention the opening hours of the bakery. Despite these two issues we had a wonderful time, weather could have been better but if Monkey Tree ever solve the problem of the English weather we will be customers for life (along with the rest of the population I suspect).
