“HEADING BACK IN 3 WEEKS!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2011

An appallingly late review. We stayed there last aug and had a fantastic time.A great room above the surf shop and a delight for me ( the pack mule) to wander down the steps to Fistral Beach with all the beach gear for my two boys ( 11 and 9). This year my eldest will enrol in the surf school. Loved it all including the magician in the evening. Small random point but i am not usually a lager drinker but the draught San Miguel is delicious. Perhaps some olives and nibbles on the bar ?Starting to salivate already at the thought of a terrific day on the surf followed by a good night in the hotel.
Absolutely awesome!!!( 11 year od addition).
Doubting Thomases get ye swiftly to this fine establishment.

Maybe it's me, maybe I'm getting old but I like a hotel with a car park. To spend 6 hours in the car driving to your destination is long enough but then to spend another 45 minutes driving around Newquay looking for a spot to park is not what you want after a long and uncomfortable drive. So it didn't start out great our visit to the Esplanade Hotel perhaps it will improve. The room was comfortable and airy - no aircon though which was necessary as the room was swelteringly hot - and clean. We thought we would take a shower before venturing into the town. This was to prove a challenge as the pulsating nature of the plumbing meant that the water was very hot and then cold over a 5 second period.
The toilet cistern was broken with the handle coming off in one's hand when a flush was attempted.
We were unfortunate enough to have booked a room that backed onto the childrens' play area which meant we were awoken very early on the following morning. Ah well!
We booked a meal in the hotel's restaurant and we both paid the £7.50 supplement (on top of the £24/head price) for steak. The steak was inedible, fat, gristly and attempts to cut the steak almost resulted in the table overturning. When we complained to the rerstaurant manager she told us that "people don't usually complain about the steak!" Needless to say that there wasn't any recompense.
To conclude: there are a lot better hotels in which to stay in Newquay for the same price and some with car parks too!
I thought the restaurant manageress to be not very customer focused or understanding.
I though the girls on reception were accommodating and pleasant.
Would I stay here again - NO.

Thank you for your comments, we appreciate both positive and negative feedback.
Our car parking is limited which we state on our website, in our terms and conditions and also on the confirmation letter. We do recommend that if parking is of particular importance to you we would recommend reserving a dedicated space for only £10.00 a night. If it's not essential and the rest of the car park is full when you arrive, there is free parking on the road in front of the hotel. Sometimes this also gets busy - we are on top of Fistral Beach - but with a little patience you shouldn’t have a problem parking nearby.
We apologise for the problems you had with your room on arrival and hope these were dealt with swiftly by our Reception and maintenance team when reported.
I am sorry that you did not enjoy your meal in the Ocean View Restaurant, and that we did not live up to your expectations, we pride ourselves on delivering high quality accommodation and customer service and apologise that this did not happen in your case.

Stayed here in July 2011, had a wonderful time. Hotel room was lovely, clean and spacious we had a family room with sea view. Food excellent, swimming pool nice and clean and mostly very quiet. Evening entertainment good for families and childrens activities good, but must be supervised by parent. Staff all happy, friendly and helpful. Beautiful views of fistral beach and 2 mins walk down steps to beach. Hotel lounge overlooks beach with lovely comfy seats, good for enjoying happy hour! Will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Spacious family room with double and 2 singles room 140

Decided to holiday at home this year and we were not dissapointed by our choice of the Esplanade Hotel. With a seaview room and 2 patio doors to the balcony we all woke up to a wonderful view of fistral beach and the sea each morning. The breakfast was excellent and the dinner never failed to meet the high standards we expected, only critcism the tables are a little small. The location is great with Newquay a short walk away and the beach well you literally fall out of bed onto it. We will be returning in the near future and would recommend this hotel for a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 201 good size for a family, excellent double balcony, shower not so good

We orignally booked into Room 213 which is a sea view room. We paid £116 per night inc breakfast. I was shocked by how very shabby the room was with old unattractive furniture, a yellow old fashioned phone, an antiquated shower attachment over the bath and the most uncomfortable bed I've slept in or rather didn't sleep in as it was so old and flat that we felt every spring. The following morning I mentioned the state of the bed to the reception staff and they couldn't have been more helpful they offered us room 142 which is a family room which still has the same calibre of furniture but the bed was comfortable and it had a proper shower all be it not a very powerful one. The breakfast was very average also. My advise is if you don't mind roughing it to get those amazing views then it's worth staying..personally I would rather stay in a good B&B with much better facilities for that money!

stunning views from restaurant and reception area! great location for fistral beach and easy walking distance to the town. lovely routes for walking/running. hotel service was excellent, staff all really friendly and helpful. Breakfast - awesome! we didn't have dinner in the restaurant but had a coffee from the bar, again great service and attention to detail. Couldn't fault a thing and will definitely be back - but just hope that the weather will be kind next time! nice pool/jacuzzi/sauna - good for relaxing after getting battered in the wind/rain. Bedroom was very hot first night and opening windows didnt much help but when asked reception for a fan, one was kindly supplied before long and we had it for remainder of our stay, spot on service!

Room Tip: opt for a sea view maybe?!

The main reason to visit this hotel is for the views! The lounge has panoramic windows overlooking fistral beach where you can watch the surfers or sunset. This view is also on show from the large windows of the dining room and for the lucky ones with a sea view! We stayed in a room with a balcony which was wonderful for sipping cocktails pre-dinner. The rooms are adequate with the furniture being updated this year. Bathrooms are recently updated. I highly recommend having dinner at the hotel. It is of high quality and large portions which are perfect after an active day on the beach or coastal paths. Although in Newquay it is in a peaceful location withing easy walking distance of the action for those that want it! It has a small indoor pool with sauna and hot tub but a perk is bening able to use the spa facilities at it's sister hotel, The Bay, just a short walk away along the same street. We have been coming to the hotel for the past 5 years and it continues to please, although not perfect, it strives to improve year on year.
