“Nice Villa- Turn the heating up !”
Reviewed 2 February 2010

We stayed here at the end of January for a 3 night weekend break in a beach view villa.
The villa was an upside down arrangement with the bedrooms down stairs and the living room upstairs. First impressions were that the kitchen surfaces needed wiping over and the dishwasher smelt very musty! The place had obviously been closed up for a while, the hotel itself had been closed for most of January. Overall the villa was clean and well presented although the furniture and furnishings were dated and a bit "twee" for our taste. There was no side lamps or small tables to create a cosy atmosphere.
The villa had a side view of the beach from the upstairs window sadly from only one chair.
The kitchen area was resonably well equipped for self catering, however there is no washer/drier facilities which was a bit of an issue being unable to dry wet walking clothes.
The master bedroom had an ensuite bathroom but no shower, and the twin room was adjacent to a nice shower room, however if water was being used elsewhere in the villa water pressure in shower dropped to a trickle. The bedrooms were a good size, although the master only has a double bed with a roll together mattress. It would have been much more comfy if they had a king size. The other issue would be that there are no windows in the bedrooms, only patio doors which led onto a nice patio area. No doubt this would make the rooms very hot in the summer.
The main issue we had was it was very cold. The villa had an underfloor heating system which dispite turning onto max in all the rooms was still cold until about 9.30 at night.
Late afternoon we sat with a duvet round us over hoodies! not a cosy experience. The heating system appeared to be controlled by a timer system which was not accessible to us. The other issue we had was the literature given about leaving the apartment . It was expected that you clean the apartment prior to leaving, empty all bins, empty the dishwasher and clean the oven. We felt that this was ott, of course we would always leave a property clean and tidy, but being asked to clean the oven on a three night break was a bit much!
The villa had internet free for 1 hour a day , thinking this would enable me to check emails in the morning and again in the evening was a mistake, the hour must be used immediatley. Needing to access the internet my husband went to the hotel reception to purchase a £10 voucher to allow 24 hours of access. He waited 15 minutes before reception was manned, and with no bell to alert hotel staff of needing service, found the service frustrating for a hotel of this size.
We did eat in the hotel restauranct for dinner one evening, which I can highly recommend. Good food and good service and 20% discount for villa guests.
Would be stay here again? Probably not, and certainly not at the full price.

Arrived at the hotel on Friday evening to stay in one of their apartments. Unfortunately the room was cold so Andrew the Manager got straight on it. He went over and above to help us, and thankkfully by Saturday our room started to feel cosy. The apartment itself was clean with a fab kitchen and the bedrooms were lovely too. Clean linen and everything in the kitchen required for a home from home experience. We also had the opportunity to have breakfast - Andrew gave us this on the house for the inconvenience regarding the cold room, and I can honestly say it was the best cooked breakfast ever - completely freshly cooked and all locally sourced. All the staff were courteous and I would recommend anyone to stay here. Well done Andrew and team.

Stayed at the Porth Veor Manor Hotel for 2 nights and found the hotel to be friendly, warm and clean. The rooms are huge and the staff can't do enough for you without being intrusive. The views over Porth beach from the conversatory are superb and there are a selection of comfy chairs to enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the weather. I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel and would highly recommend you give them a try if you are looking for a quality quiet hotel in Newquay in a superb position overlooking the beach.

We stayed in Villa 10 which had a double room and a twin room downstairs and a lounge/diner/kitchen upstairs. Lots of space for children to do homework over half term which is why we chose it. Dinner at Beaucliffe's was very very good and we thought better than Fifteen down the road. The villa was modern and warm and bright. The beds were really hard and uncomfortable (and the pillows too), and the double was a small double which seemed so old fashioned given the space available. For that reason I wouldn't chose to stay there again - such a shame as a good night's sleep is so important. Perhaps the hotel beds are better? Breakfast was ok but dinner was excellent.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for four nights, weekend commencing 25.09.09. We really enjoyed our stay, we stayed in one of the villas, which was tastefully furnished, modern and very clean. We ate at the hotel on the first night the food was very good, although we felt the dining room lacked a little atmosphere ! There are many good restaraunts nearby and we like to go out and about I cannot reccomend highly enough Butchers Bistro Newquay more or less opposite the Great Western Hotel what a fabulous little find, We had fab food the atmosphere was lovely the staff were nice and helpful, it was a little on the expensive side but its not pub food and you get what you pay for, make sure you are extremely hungry if you decide to go.!!!!
Back to Porth Veor Manor good location in as far as getting onto the coastal path or down to the Porth Beach is easy via a gate at the bottom of the garden. Lusty Glaze is also a stones throw away, lovely beach with all the facilities you could ever want and more.
On the downside,If I had one little thing to say about the Apartment we stayed in outside our front door was the swimming pool which was a little noisy first thing in the morning with children playing but I am not that much of a grump that I would,nt expect children not to be having a good time. However if your looking for a peace and quiet ask for a villa/apartment with a beach view as these are furthest away from the swimming pool.

Having decided to take what the country is calling a ‘staycation’ and chosen not to holiday abroad this year; we in my opinion were taking a risk.

Porth Veor Manor is an un-believable surprise, nestled by the beach with the most incredible family feeling with that personal touch together of a hotel and as you put it yourself – ‘the country house on the coast’.

The most impressive, luxurious high quality self catering accommodation that we have EVER had the pleasure of staying in, immaculate it was furnished to an impeccable standard with more than anyone could need to make there stay more comfortable.

Even though the weather could have been better, it really didn’t matter because there was enough in the surrounding areas to keep us busy.
We would recommend trips to Holywell Bay Park; Bodmin Court room experience and Jamaica Inn to name just a few.
Restaurants to recommend in Newquay are the Medieval Mediary Experience, great value and excellent food and service and also the Indian Restaurant Marrakech, probably the best Indian meal we have ever had, although be prepared for a wait at peak times…worth it.
For afternoon cream teas try the restaurant on Newquay harbour umm delicious.
