10 of us recently stayed in the Sutherland Hotel for a weekend stag do.
The hotel hasn't been updated for some time and if you look closely enough you will find faults (we had a broken shower, blown bulb, some iffy looking stains on the walls and carpets).
However, there are several good points:- the bar downstairs is open til late and seems friendly enough, you get a good breakfast in the morning (fry-up or cereals etc), friendly staff, a pool table and dart boards etc in the back room. We asked if we could change one of our rooms as it smelt of smoke, and they quickly obliged.
During our visit we were pretty much the only people staying at the hotel so I cant vouch for what its like during the busier months.
What I would say is that if you go to this hotel expecting too much then you'll be dissapointed. You get what you pay for here. I certainly wouldnt stay here with my partner, but if a group of us were to return to Newquay I could see us staying here again, as I assume this is primarily what this hotel is geared around.
