“Great hotel”
Reviewed 29 March 2012

We stayed for 5 nights at this hotel that was in a great location right on the beach and surrounded by shops and restaurants and only 3 min walk into centre of town.
The staff were always friendly and made you feel welcome especially in the pub/restaurant which we visited every day.
Beds were so comfortable and rooms a good size. House keeping topped up tea, coffee and biscuits every day.
Only down point was paying every day for parking and breakfast not being included in price.
Also floor boards very noisy so you could here upstairs walking around in there room.
Will be staying here again next year and would recommend it highly.

Good central location. Premier bedrooms have recently been refurbished to a high standard and were well worth the extra money, especially as they have lovely sea views. We had a bar snack lunch which was good, comprehensive menu. The full english breakfast was excellent. Again views from the resturant/bar were beautifull. Car park is small so it is advisable to phone and get a space reserved which we did, worth the extra £5. Overall a very enjoyable overnight stay.

Room Tip: Go for the premier sea view rooms

We stayed in this hotel for two nights having booked a standard room, upon arrival we were allocated out room, when I got in it I was disappointed to be facing onto the main road with not a good view, the room was dated in decor and the bathroom was something out of the 70's but it was as I expected after looking at photo's and reading reviews as well as the hotel website which does say that it is updating the rooms, I decided to ask about upgrading to a better room but there was a wedding party staying on the saturday but they happily agreed to upgrade us on the sunday night for £10 which we agreed to. What a difference the upgraded room had a fantastic view right across the beach, sea and cliffs and the decor was modern and clean and the bathroom was also white, clean, modern and had a fantastic shower. The reception staff were very helpful and lovely and recommended places to eat when we asked, nothing seemed too much trouble. the location of this hotel is ideally situated in newquay and would defiantly stay here again, but next time I would pay for the renovated rooms in advance, in time all rooms will be renovated but will obviously take time. there is also a parking fee of £5 a day which needs to be booked in advance as there is limited space in the hotel car park although you can find off street parking in nearby streets. The steam bar attached to the hotel offers usual pub grub and is pleasant enough with fab views at the back and a lovely seating area outside for the warmer days. would stay here again as it affers good value for money as well as a great location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view, it is worth paying the extra for

We visited on Tuesday on this week and decided to stay in Newquay overnight. We enquired about a room at 6 pm and were pleasantly surprised to be allocated a very competitively-price room which had been re-furbished and overlooked the sea. What a view! Not only did the room overlook the beach and beautiful surrounding coast but the refurbishment was excellent and immaculately clean. Really comfy bed was just the start. Lovely bathroom, table and chairs in the bay window overlooking the sea, lovely furnishings and finishing touches - really fantastic. Breakfast was not included but we enjoyed a 'full Cornish' with unlimited tea or coffee in the beautiful breakfast/restaurant area overlooking all the town, beaches - spectacular view. The staff were particularly attentive and special mention must go to Michelle, a young Scottish lass who was particularly attentive and accommodating. With lots of competition for breakfast in Newquay you can't go far wrong with this hotel if you are staying there. All in all this was a loely short stay - thoroughly enjoyed it. We really must mention about Newquay and the fact we visited midweek when it was really quiet and serene. It would be a completely different story at the weekend however! You really won't go wrong with the Great Western - we were very impressed thank you all very much!

Excellent service by a friendly, professional receptionist, Kirstie, who really understands customer service.

Booked in for standard rooms. On arrival we found somebody has been smoking in the room, Kirstie immediately, with no fuss, sorted out the problem and upgraded us to another room.

She was always friendly with a smile and helpful during our stay.

I have just come back from my seventh stay at this hotel, having visited as both a single female traveller on business and with my family over the last 6 months, in a variety of rooms. The older rooms are more than comfortable, and the sea facing rooms that have been refurbished have been done so to the highest standards and certainly have a wow factor. The beds are always comfortable, the locally made toiletries are very indulging, and the accommodation is always completely spotless, to which we credit the friendly and helpful Housekeeping Manager, Gilly, and her team. The reception staff are always pleasant, especially Kirsty and Lucy. Yvonne is great in the Bar too. They offer a good "pub food" menu and I have never had reason to complain about my meal. If there were two minor things, I would like to be offered luggage assistance, especially when I check in on my own, and this should be offered by a 3 star hotel. Also, at breakfast there is a "communal" milk jug, and I personally would prefer a fresh, personal jug that had not been handled by others or left standing. What you get for the price is far better than all the competing 3 and 4 star hotels in Newquay without a doubt and I look forward to my next visit in a few weeks.

Room Tip: If you pay for an upgrade you won't be disappointed.
