We booked this as a cheap way to extend our holiday, just for one night. We were upgraded to room 209 at the front of the hotel, which faces towards the railway station rather than the sea. This was a refurbished room and was very comfortable, with a reasonably large television and refurbished (if slightly small) bathroom.

The room was double glazed with sash windows that kept the noise out well, but still allowed for ventilation.

We ate in the pub downstairs, run by the owners of the hotel, St Austell Brewery. I had fish and chips which was excellent (including mushy peas from the special). My partner's chicken tikka was very bland, however. The cornish lager was amazingly good to wash it all down with. The pub has live music, but this was at a sensible volume, and there are plenty of seats to avoid it if you wish.

Service was superb, from early check-in (the receptionist called me when our room was ready) to dinner in the pub, to check out the next morning.

Sadly, there is no free wifi, but aside from that easy-to-fix factor, this hotel has some of the best staff attitudes that I have encountered for a long time.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms that lack a sea view can be fine too. Room 209 was great.

We stayed in a premium room at the Great Western for 4 nights and it was great. We had fantastic views of the beach as promised, and the room itself was lovely. The room had a simple style, with white wood to compliment the beach side feel. The bathroom appeared newly fitted, and was lovely and clean. The staff on the reception were also friendly and helpful during our stay. The only thing I would say that needs to improve is the decor of the communal areas. They were old and looked liked they hadn't been decorated in years, and often the corridors were completely mismatched. We also found on the very long walk to our room, that there were one or two signs pointing us in the wrong direction so we had to go back on ourselves the first couple of times. Other than that our stay was great.

Stayed here with my partner for one night as passing through Newquay. The hotel itself was ok and the room suited our needs, the bathroom was recently refurbished and that was nice. We stayed in room 203 which was at the front of the hotel overlooking the busy street. The main issue with this room was the lights that lite

Just had 1 night here as part of a business trip. Parking was easy and the welcome at reception warm & genuine.

I had room 126 - which is a bit of a walk from reception - but so worth the wait! Wall to ceiling bay window looking out along the coast - when it was dark I could see the lighthouse at Trevose Head flashing. The room has been extensively modernised - lovely bathroom, powerful shower and wonderful kingsize bed - so comfortable - and above all spotless. Lying in bed listening to the sea was magical - wish I could have stayed longer. one further thing - it was so quiet - no corridor traffic or banging doors - another huge advantage of the room.

Breakfast was fab the next morning - freshly cooked, piping hot and well presented. Service was also excellent.

I would recommend this hotel for both business and leisure - and room 126 without hesitation - you'll love it

Room Tip: pick 126 for view and quiet stay

My family stayed over for 1 night for a family wedding. Everything was fantastic. The customer service, the food, entertainment. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and excellent value for money. We would definitely stay again.
