“Great food & drinks ”
Reviewed 26 August 2014 via mobile

Some friends & made this our local whilst in Newquay. The food was great & drinks were well priced, the great sea views topped it off! I'd recommend a table towards the back for the best views, there's also ample outside seating. Would definitely go back.

I've only visited a couple of hostels but I found St Christopher's Inn, or Belushi's as it's often referred to as due to the bar, a great place to visit. The rooms are standard for what you'd expect at a hostel. Pretty basic but it was clean and the views of Tolcarne beach are stunning. As a guest at the room you get 25% of food as well as other offers at the bar such as 2-4-1 on selected drinks. A lot of the staff are seasonal travellers who have fallen in love with the chilled out vibe of Newquay and the place is really fun and laid back. There's quite often noone on reception but the bar's always open a few feet away and the staff are always happy to help with any issues regarding the hostel. It's in a great location if you're in Newquay to surf being right on Tolcarne beach's doorstep and about a 5-10 minute walk from Fistral. The 'Escape Surf School' which is on site is exceptional and well worth booking on for a few lessons. Really accommodating and great for all abilities. If you're in Newquay for a night out you're no more than 5 mins walk from all the major bars, pubs and clubs except Berties which is a 15-20 minute walk away. Belushi's quite often has live music on and on the first floor you can hear it so if you're not a heavy sleeper it might be an idea to bring some earplugs. I doubt it'd be an issue for most as Belushi's seems to attract a lot of young people and does have a young feel to it. Breakfast is free and includes a choice of cereals (corn flakes, rice crispies and muesli), fruit and toast. The hostel is 2 minutes walk from Sainsburys where there's a cashpoint. There is free wifi, which is good because I found Cornwall in general a bit dodgy with my 3g and 4g signal, but unfortunately it's a bit ropey reaching up to the rooms so any downloading is better off done in the bar. The shower was hot all the time I was there but for one morning due to unforeseen circumstances (I'd expect it to be hot all the time otherwise). Overall had a great stay there and met some really interesting people both visiting and working at the hostel.

Room Tip: I stayed in Room 3 which had a beautiful view of the beach. On the first floor above the bar so coul...

I come down once every year for the surfing and I love staying at St. Christopher's Inn. It's great because of the collaboration they have with Belushi's (the bar down stairs). You get discounted food and drinks plus a great atmosphere every night in the bar. The hostel itself is right in the center of everything and is located right by the beach. It's only a 5 mins walk from the bus station if you arrive by coach and 15 mins walk from the train station.

Here at St. Christopher's you will meet some of the best people. Not to mention many of the locals that hang out there regularly in the bar. This time I stayed with my best friend and left with 9 brand new lifetime friends.

As for the negatives...well the rooms are actually quite good and the bathrooms are reasonable. The place could do with a refurbishment by now, but it's clean and well looked after. The only complaint is that the rooms aren't fitted with fridges so you really do need eat out quite a bit. But there is a Sainsburys and a Tescos only minutes away from the hostel. The windows open up nice and wide and the views over the beach are great. Thankfully the loud music from the bar doesn't make its way to the rooms upstairs so there's no concern there. :D

As for safety there wasn't any lockers in my dorm but I know other rooms are kitted out. But in all honesty, there wasn't a second that went by were I felt the need to hide my stuff. It's very safe and friendly.

But don't take my word for it, go there and experience Newquay's Christopher 's Inn for yourself! :P

I have Stayed at this hostel loads , I have probably stayed in most of the rooms and have a collection of about 15 room cards to prove it. I have stayed here with groups of friends in dorms, I have stayed here on my own in dorms, and I have stayed here with my wife in their double private rooms.
The rooms are basic, and vary on standard depending on which room you stay in. The dorms all have steel bunk beds. Some of the larger dorms have a separate toilet and shower and I think have been recently refurbished to get rid of the old wet-room style. Some of the rooms don’t have toilets at all but the communal toilets and showers are kept clean (except for sand and mildew which is a given in Britons surf capital), and some of the smaller dorms and private rooms have their own private toilet and shower wet-room which are in need of a bit of a refurbish rather than just being patched up by out of work chiefs during the winter period. Though they could do with a bit of a referb they do the job perfectly well if your not to precious. The private double rooms them selves used to be dorms and have recently been refurbished from the laminated book of dreams that is the Argos catalogue meaning they are a little more comfortable then the dorms , you also get towels and toiletries in the private rooms.
Obviously when you stay in a dorm and you don’t book all the beds you don’t know who your going to be staying with, I have met many a fun room mate in this place. I have also had the pleasure of me and my buddy sharing our room with a hen party ( I think they were more shocked to find they were sharing their room with two surfers then we were to be sharing it with the insane bread that is women on a hen night) .Any way we stayed out as late as possible drinking hoping that they would have quietened down by the time we got back, only to find when we did get back to our room mates they were all fast asleep, St Christopher’s Inn tends to attract a older room mate then the rest of Newquay which is definitely a good thing.
The breakfast which is included is basic cereal and toast, but recently they have started serving tined fruit, yogurt and orange segments.
If your looking for Surfboard storage your options are to either take your board up to your room (they don’t mind, but it can be a little difficult navigating the stairs and fire doors with a longboard.) or they let you store your board down stairs in the bar which has recently been converted into communal chill out aria for the hostel tenants (which is perfect when the hostel is quiet but less ideal when the hostel is busy.)
Any way could be here all day talking about this place but to summarise ………
Ill keep coming back, for the views, the food, the people, the bar, the included breakfast but most of all, the ease of booking, the price of the rooms, and the location cannot be beaten, 30 second fall down the stairs to one of the best bars and burger joints in town. 1 minuet roll down the hill to one of my favourite surf breaks, and only 10 minuets from fistral.

This place had a great social atmosphere with live music on one of the two nights we were there.
Rooms were comfy and clean.
One bathrooms really needed a good clean but we just used another one.
The surfing lesson that works in association with this hostel was fantastic! We had a blast.
Only negative was that we needed an early breakfast which they didn't set up until 8am and the coffee was terrible.
Overall though, a great place to stay! The views of the beach are fantastic.

Stayed here for two nights as part of a tour group and we all loved it.Great location right on the beach, could see the ocean outside our window. Right in the heart of decent shops, pubs and restaurants and the bar downstairs itself had decent prices. Overall, would recommend especially for groups/friends and solo travellers

The room was on the top floor and we had a splendid view over the bay.
In Newquay there are lots of good places to visit, but a walk on the beach is also very nice.
There is a house on top of a cliff, with only one acces bridge. Nice place to life?

Room Tip: We got room 8, and this was the staffs favourit aswell.
