Spent 5 nights with a 6-year old and 3-year old as a base for visiting much of Cornwall. Can't fault facilities for children and the way the hotel has been configured for families (e.g. meal times), but also good for adults (gym, pool, good bar etc).
Would definitely go back...

Great fun, relaxing, lots to do, high standards, professional staff. We visit almost yearly, and every year something has been improved. The rooms are fantastic, and the ambience throughout the hotel is relaxing, modern and comfortable. There is so much to do, both inside and out. The kids clubs are very well run for all ages. The adventure playgrounds, zip wire, maze, golf course (9-hole pitch and putt), swimming pools and games rooms occupy children and adults alike. The staff have your comfort as their priority (not always the case elsewhere).

Our first hotel-based holiday with our two children (1 & 3) was a total success quite simply because of the attention to detail and importance placed on welcoming families with young children. Far from feeling embarrassed about making noise and spilling food on the floor of the excellent restaurant, it was all very relaxed with helpful staff unobtrusively sweeping up after us. Food was first rate: proper food for supper (slow-roast pork, lasagne, vegetables and a selection of puds) served between 4.45-5.45 was perfect for our kids, and with coffee for us adults, it all felt effortless. We were then free to come down later, kids in bed (with the listening service switched on) to enjoy an excellent three-course meal - such a treat! On one evening, we ate at Fifteen Cornwall which was very special; Sands arranged an in-house baby-sitter for us. Everyone very happy. Breakfasts equally good.
Outdoor playgrounds super, with the maze wooden ship, and indoor swimming with toddler pool very popular. Staff always happy to provide extra towels etc.
Mum and dad both really enjoyed the spa treatments too - excellent facilities and top-quality service.
The room (a contemporary suite) worked very well - spacious room with great view of sea, nice bathroom and adjoining kids' room with bunk, single and cot all immaculate and comfy.
All in all, a fantastic mix of fun and relaxation for the whole family. You needn't leave the complex, but trips to beaches very easy too. We'll definitely be coming back.

We recently stayed a week at Sands Resort and I was so pleased with everything, from service, food, location, and all the great children facilities. I'm really surprised that this hotel is rated as a 3 star as I would have scored higher.

The Spa was a great treat and I had blissful treatments.

Overall, the experience has been so positive that we will definitely be visitng again, once a year if not more and will be telling our friends.

The manager Martin, was so quick and helpful to sort out a room change and it ended up being a perfect solution. Thank you all so much for making it a memorable stay.

The Loyals.

Our bargain 'taster' break reached well beyond our expectations. Friendly and considerate staff plus elegantly served food. Ideal location for exploring the wild, rugged Cornish coastline.

We've just come back from our 4th visit to Sands - just for a weekend, but the magic was cast again so that we all came back relaxed, happy and refreshed. It just really works - the staff are so friendly and helpful, the pool (lovely new mosaic bottom by the way) is beautifully warm and clean, the childcare is eagerly looked forward to by the children and of fantastic quality, the food is gorgeous, the rooms are beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean and kitted out, and communal areas are relaxing and provide all the space you need. Every time we go, Sands has made a few changes which are just what is needed. This time, the new soft play is fantastic - thank you!

The thing about Sands is that it works for everyone without feeling like you're in a child-centred holiday camp. The children have a lovely time, but so do the adults. We feel pampered and looked after in an adult-type way, and the kids do in their way.

Can't wait for next time. Saving our pennies as we speak!

Having reviewed all the relevant accomodation in Newquay on TripAdvisor we booked a 3 day stay at the Sands Resort.
What a gem of a hotel if you have children.
The receptionist was very warm and welcoming and completed the check-in quickly. We made our way to our room, where we entered our contemporary suite. On entering through your door, you walk into the childrens room which had 1 single bed and 1 bunk bed as well as a cot for a baby. The room also has a TV with DVD player, a large set of draws and a fan. You continue on past the large bathroom into the huge main room which houses a Queen bed, flat screen tv with Playstation 2 as well as a number of seats etc. The view was beautiful overlooking the sea and the coastline down towards Fiscal beach.
The hotel boasts excellent facilities both inside and out so any bad weather has minimal impact on you.
The numerous bars and eating areas were all well appointed and friendly with reasonable prices. The evening meals provided a good selection to chose from, as well as staff that were prepared to speak with Chef to accomodate a picky eating child. We have one!
Breakfast offered a buffet style for full english with a wide choice of the more continental flavours and fruit.
This hotel really has it all, but their greatest asset is by far their staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
We very much look forward to staying here again soon.
