We stayed in the hotel for a week with our 2 children (23months and 3 yrs) From the moment we arrived we were happy with our choice of hotel. We found out we were on the 2nd floor which wasn't a problem as both our daughters walk up and down stairs ok and we no longer use a buggy regularly, we were offered help upstairs with our luggage which was lovely. Our room was a 'Comfort' room with a sea view.....and I DO MEAN A SEA VIEW! WOW!!! Those sunsets are fantatsic!!
Very modern rooms and HUGE beds very neatly made up everyday. Plenty of storage space for your clothes etc. Clean bathroom too.
The children were booked in for high tea at 4.45pm and there were lots of choice to suit everybody's diets and the children could choose themselves which was great. The first night we had planned to go down for dinner as a couple using the 'baby monitor' service ..however our 3yr old wouldn't settle so we brought her down with us while we had our dinner (she still had her pyjamas on) This was not a problem at all and the restaurant staff were great. The baby monitor service is absolutely fantastic and allowed us to have dinner and relax on an evening knowing that the staff were listening in on our children and came to tell us quickly if there were any noises...they even told us when our youngest was singing to herself.
The food is AMAZING and well presented. All the staff were very friendly.
Our 3yr old figured how to open the room door so we asked for a safety gate which was brought up and fitted within 1/2hr along with an extra bed guard.
We were lucky that the week we had booked was sunny and warm 80% of the time so our daughters were in the outdoor pool daily. It was warm and clean and they loved it. The sunbeds were clean and there were plenty of towels which you collect from reception. The beach across the road is stunning but there is a long way down some steps to get to it as a lot of beaches in Cornwall are like this too. However Porth Beach which is about a 15 min walk away is much more child friendly as there are no steps to get to it.
The only minor problem we had were with the showers in the bathroom......don't expect a power shower or anything they provided barely a trickle of water and took us ages just to rinse our hair! This was the ONLY thing that annoyed us and we will be booking again for next year. I have already recommended the hotel to other families.

Room Tip: Get a sea facing room, 2nd floor as long as you don't mind climbing stairs..its worth it!!!

Just returned from a lovely 10 day holiday in Cornwall, staying at the Sands hotel in Newquay. We booked the half board option and stayed in a suite on the 1st floor (not the ground floor !) overlooking the sea. It was a fine room with excellent space in the main bedroom area, a seperate room for our two boys (aged 6 and 3), and a bathroom and corridor area between. What I liked very much was that the sea facing wall of the room was fully a window. It had a double door on it so you could let the sea air/breeze in. Hotel rooms are often too warm and the facility to open doors to the outside was great. As we were on the first floor there was a safety fence in front of the doors so there was no issue for our boys.
The hotel has nice amenities available to everyone. Nice play area with a maze that my 6 year old loved going through. There is a soccer pitch area, a mini tennis court, basketball court and several adult size tennis courts. I particularly enjoyed the 9 hole pitch and putt course even if the condition of the greens wasn't great (they do have problems with small burrowing animals digging up little holes on the greens !). For the tots there is a safely fenced off play area with a sand pit and a pirate ship.
Food wise there is a nice menu which changes each day of the week. It looks like they repeat the menus again the following week but the food is good so no worries there.
The really nicest bit about the hotel though is the staff. Generally young, probably all students during the summer season, they were the most cheerful and helpful staff I've come across in a long time. 5 star service I would say even if the hotel is rated 3 star. To be honest I felt it to be 4 star level so was surprised to see that. On coming back to the room after it had been serviced I noticed nice little touches such as tucking my son's cuddly dog under the covers of his bed, and making his blanket into the shape of a boat lying on the bed. That brought a smile for sure.
For family holidays its important that the kids clubs are good. This is the one area that I would call out for some improvement for the Sands. We did use the clubs a little but found that the combination of having to pay extra for each session and also that the timing of the sessions wasn't great for our needs that we didn't use the clubs much. There were not enough sessions in the afternoon for my liking, and some of the sessions were only an hour long. When you have the kids in the club you want to have at least 2 hrs otherwise you might as well be there with them anyway !

Overall a great place to stay and will likely return.

Room Tip: Would recommend the suites that are sea facing. Go for a top floor.

This hotel is very good value. There is lots for the whole family to do on site, so no need to go into the busier Newquay unless you really want to. The rooms are large and airy, some with great sea views. The staff are child friendly and helpful. We have been visiting the Sands for ten years now and have always found new things to do there. Recently they have updated some of the rooms and put in a new tennis court and children's outdoor pool. The food is above average (for a three star hotel) and service is quick and friendly (ideal with children). Would definately recommend it.

Room Tip: There is no lift so it is best to opt for a room on the first floor.

We love it!

We have a one year old and were slightly concerned about taking him away, whether there would be enough to do if the weather was bad and whether the food would be healthy.

Our room is a sea facing 'suite'
costing us £1000 for two adults and a child for Dinner, Bed & Breakfast.

We have a room with two single beds and a cot then a wardrobe area and link to the bathroom, then
the adults bedroom with a large double bed, plenty of storage, a
dressing table, flat screen tv, and
double French doors that look over the Sea-bliss!

I was impressed with the service as we asked for some heating facilities for the babies milk, and they have
put a microwave in the room-free of charge!

The hotel is well thought out with
kids in mind-I wouldn't recommend it for couples as it is a 'family'

The restaurant is divided into 3, so you can use the baby listening
service in the evening, and sit in the 'adult only' section of the
restaurant to have some peace and quiet. Equally, if you prefer your
children to eat with you, or they won't settle, there is guilt-free
dining, if everyone else kids are
messy and noisy, you don't feel so
guilty about yours!

The food is delicious, a prompt
service, plenty of staff, and 3
delicious courses a night-well worth
paying for.

We are quite health conscious with
our 1 year old, and prefer not to give him things like chicken nougats
and chips. There has been a roast dinner each night, pan fried pork,
chips and spaghetti hoops, but we opted for roasted veg with noodles
and tomatoes, and cut it up-he ate all of it, he had bananas and
custard for pudding, but there is always fresh fruit and yoghurts.

Last night was quiche with sweet
potatoe and sweetcorn, but as it's a small buffer style, you can mix and match what the kids have.

Nearby there are some gorgeous sandy beaches, but beware, the
wind that comes in off the sea is quite deceiving-I felt cold but ended
up sun burnt!
There is newquay zoo on a drizzley day, the blue reef aquarium if its
really bad weather and dairy land farm/soft play. All worth a visit if
the English weather let's u down!

My only few criticisms-and please put these into context and we've
just booked for the next TWO years..

There is no lift in the hotel, so if u have babies in prams that you want to wheel into your room when they're sleeping, I'd suggest you get a ground floor room. Although if your children are a bit older you should be fine, they will store your buggies securely over night.

They could fence off the car park a little better, but other than that I can't fault the place.

The staff are really friendly and helpful, whatever the request.

I am really fussy and critical-and I have to say I'm struggling to find something wrong!

All the facilities are great, 2 outdoor/indoor pools. Sauna and jacuzzi, gym, spa, tennis courts, play areas, swings, maze, 2 bouncy castles, crazy golf, pitch n putt, kids entertainment, table tennis, VERY sensitive baby listening, baby sitting service, creche & kids clubs, soft play.....and I'm sure there's more!

I hope my review is helpful. Go and have a great time-this place is way more than a 3*

Well if it's a family hotel you want you have found the best.
if you want a hotel that all those little things covered such as baby gates, steps for the toilet, DVD in the kids room and cbeebies on the TV

if you came for fish fingers and beans well be surprised the food has an amazing choice with mum and dad food that is up with the best

The indoor and outdoor pools are a real magnet for mums and dads as it it really safe to take even the smallest tiny person.

and as for Mum and Dad stuff well they have that covered also

brilliant stay so far

see you next year
