My husband, son (9) and I enjoyed our 5 night stay at Sands during the May half term week. Our room was spacious and our son enjoyed having his own room within the family suite. We all enjoyed the pitch and putt, tennis, croquet, games room, indoor and outdoor pools. We loved body boarding at Watergate Bay and Fristal Beach, the hotel lent us body boards, wind break, bucket and spade, all free of charge. We had our own wetsuits but you can borrow those too. We walked to Watergate Bay on one day, fabulous views and great lunch at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant. We had lovely meals at Sands and relaxing treatments at the Spa. A fabulous 5 days, enjoyed by all three of us. We will be back - thanks a lot.

Room Tip: Lovely sunsets over the sea so book a room with a sea view.

We had a lovely stay at sands. Great food and the baby listening service is amazing! What a great idea and free of charge. The hotel itself is well designed and we will definitely be back! I had a holiday even with a little baby.

Stayed there as a family for one night at the weekend in May 14. It was a great place, especially if you travelling with your little ones. There's so much to do for them including play areas, swimming pools etc. The hotel room was sooo spacious and very comfortable(we had family room) with beautiful views overlooking the bay.
Breakfast was great, lots of food to choose from.
The downside was very early check out-10.30 am. So after you've had your breakfast you kind of have to rush out to leave the room.
One more downside is that the restaurant doesn't serve food until late. We checked in very late just before 9pm and couldn't get a meal at the restaurant. So we quickly had to rush out to find a place in town to eat. And it wasn't very convenient that late with two little ones. On the other hand we had the most delicious food at the the restaurant called Lewwinick's. I'd highly recommend it!

This was my fourth visit to this friendly hotel. Yes, it really is that good! We were warmly greeted by familiar and welcoming staff on reception, who remembered us from previous visits. As usual my room was very spacious and well equipped. The bathroom, fitted with a stylish modern bathroom suite was immaculate. As it has been two years since my last visit, I was impressed to see how much had been updated. As the weather was perfect, I was able to make use of the balcony overlooking the new outdoor plunge pool and shallow paddling pool for children. The warm indoor pool has also had the addition of a steam room. We all enjoyed our time relaxing in here. We ate in the adult section of the restaurant and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. I'm certainly going to try to garnish some of my dishes with pea shoots! (Yum!) We made use of the spa, (but not the well equipped gym this time) spoiling ourselves with several treatments. Having stayed in other hotels where you can pay a fortune for similar treatments, these prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend a pamper session during your stay. The location of this hotel is a real bonus, so close to many beautiful beaches. All the staff were helpful and friendly. Altogether a perfect break again!

Struggling to understand why anyone would stay here when for a similar price (only slightly more) you can stay in complete luxury at Watergate Bay Hotel. True there is a bigger kids play area at Sands but that's it. It totally lacks the sophistication, comfort and contemporary appeal of its neighbour. The rooms and hotel are very basic, tired and dated and the restaurant needs to be brought into the 21st century. In our opinion this resort is overpriced and did not meet our expectations during our two day stay. However, others do seem to enjoy it so maybe it's just not for us!

Thank you for the review, I am sorry that we were "not for you". As you say many families enjoy our resort and some prefer it to other local hotels because of our extensive sports and play facilities that are free to guests and unrivalled in their quantity. But we aren't the right hotel for everyone.

I would agree that Watergate is one of the areas leading contemporary boutique hotels. They have a great location and have undergone extensive refurbishment since the arrival of Jamie Olivers restaurant next door.

However for many of our customers the difference in rates (next week a similar family suite for a family is 50% higher on online booking) mean that our mix of value and facilities offer a better option even if not so boutique. We try to ensure this value extends to our drink and food prices as well.

With the advent of websites and travel comparison sites, customers have more choice and information than ever before, I'm sorry that in this instance that our information left you feeling dissapointed with the hotel but am glad that you eventually found the right hotel for you and left Cornwall happy and likely to return.

Been meaning to write this review for a while but I can't recommend it enough. We stayed for my parents wedding and it was all sublime. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the feel of the place was great. We'll be going for many years to come now.

Room Tip: Try for a sea view, well worth it.

This was our second year at Sands. The food is great, the entertainment is well thought out to keep the kids amused & especially to wear them out an hour before bedtime. The staff are exemplary, the icing on the cake and it's so good to see the same staff from last year. Early kids tea and baby listening in the rooms means a holiday for us too! The locations is perfect as surrounded by beautiful beaches.
Can't wait to return.
