Owner description: From the local Cornish coast to the dazzling beauty of the Tropical Reef, Newquay Blue Reef aquarium has an exciting world of underwater adventure waiting to be discovered. More than 40 innovative displays vividly bring to life the sights, sounds and smells of the sea, whilst regular feeding displays, rock-pool workshops and informative talks provide a fun and fascinating day out. Visitors can enjoy the closest of undersea encounters with amazing aquatic life including seahorses, giant octopus, pulsating Jellyfish and fierce Piranha. At the aquariums heart is a spectacular coral reef display housed within a 250,000 litre ocean tank - home to exotic tropical species like black tip reef sharks and Omiros the rescued loggerhead turtle. As well as hundreds of brightly-coloured reef fish and a huge Southern Stingray. Enjoy the sheer beauty of the display by taking a journey through its very own underwater tunnel, as well as through a number of viewing portholes, a floor to ceiling window and even enjoy close encounters from the surface - where Omiros often likes to pop up to say hello! Situated on Towan Promenade in the heart of Newquay, Blue Reef Aquarium not only offers a beach on its doorstep but also an amazing experience, whatever the weather!

“Quite a gem of a place, but too little information (for my taste)”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

The regular feeds and demonstrations were good, and the staff were quite knowledgeable whilst providing these displays. The walk-through glass tunnel was particularly enjoyable. I was concerned about the size of enclosure for some of the animals, but this is a concern at virtually every zoo or aquarium across the world.
I give it 4* because, for the price, personally I would hope for more in-depth information on the boards and in booklets about aquatic life, especially as it is quite a small aquarium, though I will emphasise there are facts provided throughout. I think for young families and for people more interested in the visuals, this will not be a problem at all.

TIP: Look for discount vouchers in tourist guides to get a couple of pounds off - there was one in the reception of Blue Reef itself.

“Amazing experience”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

It was a really nice experience walking through the aquarium and the tunnel was lovely to walk through. The staff were all friendly and were there to answer any questions. There was also a tank where the divers could get into. It is a very modern place.

“Lovely little aquarium”
Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

This is on the smaller side of aquariums - it took us a little over an hour after having a good look around. However, it is beautifully presented. Very clean tanks and clear information about the animals. Interesting talks, we saw the turtle feed while we were there. I did notice you can come back in for free with your stamp to see other talks so if you wanted to visit the beach then come back that's good value.

“A good sealife experience on a rainy day”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

A typical sealife experience and prices to match, but we got a good discount in a local tourist guide.

However, at this one, the tanks are especially deep, the centre is very modern, and there is a great talk where the divers get in the water!

A good rainy day attraction!
