Tolcarne Beach Surf Shacks
Reviewed 4 July 2014

I recently stayed in the Tolcarne beach huts with my husband. It is a fantastic location, wonderful to wake up to the sound of the sea. The beach hut was lovely inside, lots of nice details and the shower was surprisingly big. the staff were really helpful. The only negative was the college next door, when they had groups of students it was very noisy. Which was annoying when trying to have a chill out or lie in. Overall would definitely recommend it.

Just returned from 2 nights in one of the beach cabins and whaow !! What a fabulous location and the cabins are just as the website says. A double bed with a shower and ensuite and really fresh and clean with super friendly staff .The weather was fantastic which meant we could have dinner outside in the restaurant which was amazing and the food terrific and I know there are comments about the steps but for a romantic amazing value for money stay you will not top waking up and stepping out onto the beach or having a glass of wine watching the sun set. We will definitely be back.

Booked this through Secret Escapes as it looked very interesting. The cabin has been renovated very well. Lovely pine clad walls, compact but very good en-suite, with excellent shower. There is a small rail for hanging clothes but no real storage but we kept most clothes in bags stored under the bed. We stayed for three nights and it is a policy not to change sheets and towels, this we didn't mind but we did run out of tea and milk even though it was just my husband who used these. We could have asked for top ups but never seemed to be around when the reception was open. We did however pass this on as feedback so this may change. One other slight disappointment was the fact that the complex is adjacent to a Cornwall college outdoor centre. We choose to holiday in term time to avoid school children so we were a little frustrated when a coach load of children arrived each day for activities on the beach. To be fair though they were well behaved but it wasn't quite the quiet break we thought it would be.
The cabin is very cosy and to watch the sunset every evening and to wake with the sound of the sea every morning was wonderful. Newquay it's self is a little run down but there are a few good places to eat. When the tide is out it is possible to walk from the harbour to the huts which is nice. It is a little hard to find the exact entrance despite the good instructions on the web site. The entrance is opposite the Bristol Hotel right on the pelican crossing. It looks like a footpath but it is wide enough for a car. We unloaded at the car park and we were lucky to get a parking space as the apartments weren't fully booked. Otherwise there is on road parking or a NCP across the road. There are a lot of steps up/down to the road/beach or the road/footpath you drive down to the car park.

Room Tip: There are 10 cabins. No.10 was next to the college but 1-6 were under the Breaks bar so may be noisi...

Stayed in a lovely beach cabin for one night in April. The staff at reception were very helpful and friendly. They made us feel very welcome. The cabin was beautifully decorated. Electric fire provided. Big flat screen TV but limited channels on TV.The bed and bedding was comfortable. Nice extra- shawls are provided. Deck chairs, windbreak and outside table provided on request. We were lucky to see a great sunset but no surf. But it was lovely to walk on the beach early in the morning. Car park across the road is £5 for 24 hours. We dined at the restaurant, where there appeared to be no heating which spoilt the evening as we were shivering throughout the meal. Thankfully, the heating in the cabin was very effective.

Room Tip: Stock up across the road at the Tesco Express. Bring a torch for the stairs at night. The stairs to...

We stayed for one night in one of the new beach cabins and had a fantastic two days. I was worried it might get cold being mid December but I needn't have worried. The cabin was warm, cosy and really comfortable. Looking out over the beach and waking up to the waves, it was spectacular. The beds are comfy and the ensuite, although compact still has a decent sized shower unlike other similar places I have stayed. I highly recommend this for a couples get away any time of the year! We will be back.

We stayed in these little shacks as a break away from reality. It was amazing. The shack was a little small, but couldn't fault the views.
Only a small niggle, there wasn't any heating, and during a stormy October, a little bit of heat would have been nice.

Room Tip: Shacks on the beach are lovely, but can be small and cold, so take a duvet to wrap up in.

We spent two nights in the Tolcarne Surf Shack (myself and 3 children) and were so happy with the experience. Simple but not basic. You open you door right onto the beach, we were so fortunate with the weather which does make a difference. There is a table and four chairs so we all had croissants for breakfast and I made coffee using the little kitchen area behind the shack.
The little kitchen area was great too, fridge, toaster, microwave and kettle so this was perfect for making hot chocolate on the evenings and snuggling under the fleecy blankets that are in the shacks whilst star gazing at night.
Great staff too - happy, friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: You don't have a parking space provided but I did manage to park my car safely on the road above...
