Description: We purchase food locally and cook fresh in our kitchens each day. We have a popular Sunday Roast each Sunday, as it is freshly cooked roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese, green vegetables and melt in the mouth meat, plus vegetarian and vegan options, it's usually very busy. We also offer a takeaway Sunday roast, call and collect. Friday night is Burger Night where we serve the Dolphin Gourmet Burgers, that too has become extremely popular, the menus are on our website and we offer online booking. The restaurant itself is a 75 seater restaurant with a nice friendly bar and lots of sofas dotted around the bar. It's been under new ownership since November 2016 and has been receiving rave reviews and sometimes sold out on Sundays with over 160 meals served. The Dolphin is the oldest trading restaurant in the beautiful Cornish town of Newquay and is a traditional yet vibrant venue, with friendly staff and a strong focus on sustainable and ethical practice. All produce is fresh and is locally and responsibly sourced, allowing for an exciting and dynamic food menu that appeals to people of all tastes. The lounge bar provides a relaxing area to enjoy well maintained draught lagers, ales and ciders, a carefully chosen range of wines and spirits. Serving from our Main Menu items such as Tapas, Seafood and Grill as well as our hugely popular Sunday Roasts, where we offer a takeaway roast on Sunday (from 26 November 2016) to meet the overbooked demand. The Dolphin is situated near to the Harbour in the centre of the town, just a minute from the beach and is surrounded by absolutely gorgeous beaches famous for their golden sands and world-class surf conditions on the North Cornwall coast. Adjacent to the restaurant is a pay and display car park whilst street parking is also available within a few minutes walk. Sainsburys also operate a time limited (1.5 hours at the time of writing) car parking facility, it is an automated time register driving in and driving out so allow a few extra minutes to get back to your car and exit their car park.

Wine was just shoved on the table in front of us. Dish descriptions were wrong. Service was prompt but moody and one of the waiters burped when passing. Food was poor and bland. The crumble dessert was served dry with no custard. Needless to say it was over priced.

“Paul and Andrew, service with a mmmm smile”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

As we climbed those daunting steps(yes a little steep for my old legs) we were greeted by an amazing smile from the maitre 'd she was tactile and reassuring as she checked for bookings, we had to return later as full, but she promised to txt us when our table was ready, this again made us feel welcome.

The chef had a challenge as we were both in the catering profession, some 60 yrs between us and now teach fine dinning.what came before us was a delight, mussels with a twist (smoked bacon) then perfectly cooked steaks of generous portions with superb accompaniments ,waiting staff were attentive but not overbearing, my only criticism was the wine was opened at the bar and not presented to us , though we were asked if we wanted to try it before pouring.Overall i would visit again and recommend the place to friends

“Absolutely fabulous! Highly recommended!”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

This restaurant may look a little shabby and it could do with a wee touch up, the food however is probably the best i have ever had.I chose the cornish mussels to start and the bacon wrapped scallops for main both were unbelievable. I have eaten pasta in the centre of Rome and had paella in Barcelona but this definitely tops them all. I would recommend anybody to this restaurant for fantastic food, great service and very generous portions.

Ps. I would recommend a starter only if you are famished if not then stick to a main as they are extremely generous portions.

“Lovely Food”

Delicious food with loads to choose from on the menu.
My only complaint is that the cocktails were a little pricey.
But Would definitely visit here again.

“the street-front doesn't do it justice, take the plunge & go up the stairs!”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

Dont walk on by, walk on up. This place is a hidden delight!
The food is fresh, generous and amazing.
The real ales are top condition and the twisted cocktail list is wonderful.
We ate the chilli calamari starter & the 'Cornish Mussels' "best Moule I've ever had"
followed by a HUGE plate of scallops wrapped in smoked bacon and the Steak & blue cheese salad.

Portions were so big we had to pass on dessert and opted instead for an espresso martini which was so good we returned the following day for more of the same
HIGHLY recommend this place.
