We have just come back from staying in this hotel and had a wonderful time. We had a package that included lunch at the Beach Hut , dinner at the hotel restaurant and also a 6 course taster meal at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen.

We upgraded to a Superior Ocean view room and were really impressed with it, very modern and trendy with massive LCD TV, Ipod Docking station and a lovely freestanding bath in front of the window which you could sit in and look out to sea.

The bathroom was also nice and modern and very clean with a double shower and beautifully tiled walls.

We also had a balcony but with it being January was a little too cold to sit out on!

We were both really impressed with the room, the service and the meals that we had (Fifteen is well worth a visit) and hopefully will definitely be back for another visit.

Excellent hotel and would definitely recommend.

We spent 2 nights at the Watergate Bay Hotel as part of a week holiday away from our 4 children.... and the Hotel proved to be a fantastic experience! Lucky enough to have booked an ‘ocean view superior king bedroom’, we had the luxury to have a double-bath in our bedroom... and were able to see the sea from either our bed or the bath!

The room was nicely decorated (this part of the hotel has just been renovated), and included all what you need for such a stay. Don’t forget your MP3 player as the room included an MP3 dock station, alongside a flat screen TV, radio, CD and DVD player.. but in all fairness we did not need them as we spent a lot of time outside...

The hotel is very pleasant to walk around, with various spaces including many for children. All is as described on their website, and there is no nasty surprise. The pictures are indeed what you get! Breakfast is as you would expect from such a well organized place, and all tastes will be served...

The proximity of the Fifteen Cornwall (just across the car-park) makes it the hotel the perfect base to relax before and after a great meal. The link with the Extreme Academy makes it the perfect base for surf or related sports enthusiasts. The beach restaurant is a great place to have a quick snack or a non-fancy meal in the evening.

From there, you can indeed start many walks along the coast, or enjoy the beautiful beach... and walk as far as you can when the tide allows it.

This is a place where we will definitely go back!

My Wife booked up an "Ocean View" superior room for my birthday as a surprise and treat and we enjoyed an excellent mini-break in late October.

The Hotel isn't cheap however the decor is up-to-date, the staff young and friendly and the location superb. I'd strongly recommend booking a sea-facing room here as the view is breath-taking.

The restaurant food was really good and we'd recommend going for the
"dinner B&B" option. Portions are quite generous and well prepared. Alternatively you can pop down to Jamie Oliver's "15" restaurant which is 2 minutes walk down on the beach.

The hotel bar has a great view with seating inside and out and has a nice relaxed atmosphere.

The hotel cleaners have a tough job with guests walking in sand all day however perhaps cleanliness could be slightly improved upon. Also, some of the interior/ exterior paint on windows and hand rails etc. needs renewal - a slight lack of attention to detail for a hotel which is really quite expensive.

Overall though we'd really recommend the Watergate hotel. The views towards Newquay and the Atlantic are superb, the superior rooms fairly spacious and comfortable and the staff and food of a good standard. A great place to visit for a mini-break in the Westcountry.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Watergate Bay a couple of days ago. When booking, we managed to get a discounted price.
The hotel boasts a wide range of spa facilities, I would say that these are overstated on the website. There are facilities, but they are very small and not very clean. We didn't use them.
Checkin is very late- 3 p.m. and our room wasn't even ready on time so most of the day was gone by the time we checked in.
The staff are not overly friendly and on ocassion lack common sense. I would imagine that the walls between the rooms are thin, because the hotel was very noisy.
I have to say though, the location is lovely and very relaxing. The Fifteen Restaurant is also worth a visit.
To summarise, I would have been very unhappy if I had paid full price for a stay in this hotel.

Fantastic location. We upgraded to a room with a sea view and had wonderful views.
The staff are very friendly and the service provided very good.
We stayed at the hotel so that we could try Fifteen and thoroughly enjoyed both experiences.
We would certainly recommend this hotel to others.

How can they get some things so right and others so wrong?

We stayed in a twin room in the new wing and as other reviewers have said, the rooms are very nicely decorated, fresh and modern. The king size bed was exactly that (not two singles) and the second bed was in fact bunks in a curtained off room of their own. The bathroom was huge and the waffle dressing gowns a treat.

However, the room overlooked the delivery bay of the hotel so we were rudely awoken by lorries at 5am. That, and the kids upstairs who were running up and down the wooden floors shortly afterwards.

I get the impression that the hotel is aimed at Londoners who are seduced by the images on the website and are looking for the nostalgia of an old-fashioned B&B holiday with Soho House comforts. I don't think it succeeds.

The waitress service is as awful as the food. Breakfast is your average English B&B fare: juice from concentrate, greasy bacon, watery coffee. And when we asked to take breakfast on the deck overlooking the ocean, instead of the dining room overlooking the car park, the surly waitress snarled: "if you bring your dishes back." Nice. Not.

The location is spectacular, its proximity to fifteen a real plus (the meal there worth every penny, and the service impeccable).

But there needs to be a serious change in attitude from the staff before I could recommend it.
