We stayed for 3 nights and were amazed at how geared up the hotel was for babies and children. It was staggering to see the choices on offer for children in the playzone, the inclusion of parent's kitchens on each floor and the kids tea (included as part of dinner, bed and breakfast rate).

The room we stayed in was light and airy and overall we were thoroughly impressed with the facilities, particularly the gorgeous swimming pool and the living space bar (scones are a must!). The staff were friendly and welcoming. All in all a fantastic stay.

Invited for dinner with some friends who were staying at the hotel and were extremely disappointed with the 3 course evening meal in the restaurant - At £35.00 per head. We were served with a basket of bread that quite frankly tasted old. Two starters were "king" prawns with noodles and chilli and consisted of a few noodles and 3 average sized prawns served on an enormous plate. Two mouthfuls at the most. One of the starters was ham hock terrine which was served with a mouthful of chutney and a few leaves of salad. In fairness the other starter ordered was butternut squash and honey soup which was lovely.

For the main course we had pollock and risotto which was quite nice ( although a rather small portion), salmon and new potatoes again which were quite nice but rather small portions and Iron flat steak with cabbage and hand cut chips. The steak consisted of 5 small slivers sat on maybe 1/2 a cut cabbage leaf and 5 chips - quite appalling.

When we complained we were offered apologies but no recompense until I suggested that we were not charged for one of the meals. In fairness we were then told that we would not be charged for one of the meals and one of the two bottles of wine we ordered.

Would not recommend eating in the restaurant although we have been advised that the food in the bar area is much better value.

A very disappointing evening.

A one stop shop 'resort' with great sport (surfing), food (Living Space, Beach Hut, Fifteen) all in short stroll. New addition of pool, cardio room, hot tub, and deck a success. Great
Ace for learning to surf with wave right for beginners and intermediates. Views and positive, upbeat staff boost the spirits. Extreme academy staff and Fifteen really add to whole package. Love the hardwood floors and decor in the rooms. Three nights with my teenaged son a big success. Would work as a couples trip too if both want sports (hiking, surf).

Room Tip: Better room w partial sea view worth it

We came for the opening of Swim Club and left the kids at home with a sitter. The evening's entertainment was fantastic, with food, cocktails and great company. Thanks to all who made our stay memorable. Lovely breakfast and a swim before we came home to real life again. Recommended.

My hubby and I have just holidayed here. The new refurb is gorgeous, the pool and the hot tub are such a lovely addition. Although, having said that there are a few tweaks that they could make to make things a bit better for couples with no children. The hotel is extremely family friendly, which is great, but as a couple there were a few annoying things - for example the pool is open for families right up until 6.pm, meaning that we only managed one swim as the pool was constantly full of children and we didn't want to swim post dinner. Also, there were several small children in the hot tub doing rolly pollies and spitting water everywhere. Again, this doesn't make your time trying to relax very pleasant. Maybe they could make family swimming time 10-4 which would give adults a chance to swim pre breakfast and enough time to swim prior to dinner. As far as the hot tub is concerned, it was my impression that children shouldn't be allowed in, especially children of about 4/5/6 years of age. Maybe a sign should be up?

The food was mixed, breakfast and dinner were average to good. Breakfast could do with being served until a bit later for those who like a lie in. Maybe with separate times for those who have no kids and like a quiet start to the day! There was not a great deal of variation, and if I were visiting the hotel for dinner as a non resident, I would be really disappointed as the portions are small, and the food is average for an expensive amount of money. The restaurant could do with a refurb to match the rest of the gorgeous hotel, and the staff are haphazard and could do with more training. That said, they were very friendly. The living space was our favorite. Really lovely and the food and staff were fab, and when mistakes were made - for example forgotten orders, or long waits, they were very apologetic. If they could just tweak the restaurant, maybe with a refurb and a new approach it would make such a difference to the hotel.

The rooms are nice, although again, the attention to detail is missing. The net curtains were damaged and falling off, and the windows were filthy. The service staff were friendly, and did a reasonably good job. Another thing for couples with no children is that we were constantly woken up at silly o'clock by other people's children. Maybe they could make provision for child free wings in the hotel, again, to cater for those who are trying to relax.

If I had children, this place would be ideal, but at the moment I think they need to make a few tweaks to be able to make sure that couples are equally catered for. Just some thought as to how they cater for non families would be good, as the hotel is lovely and the staff are so friendly.

We stayed in the hotel for two nights in a better room including breakfast and evening meal. The room was nice but did suffer from noise coming from the corridors. We did not manage to find a parking space at the hotel so had to park in the public car park next door with many other guests. We had to keep surfboards in the car as the hotel did not offer any secure storage which was a worry. The meals at best were pub grub, the service was a bit lacking - different member of staff for each course, continual errors with drink orders for both nights and the same for others seated nearby and one night they left us for an hour as they lost the main course order! No one explained the initial breakfast system and each day the hot drinks turned up with no milk. It seemed overall that there was not a responsible / senior member of staff at the hotel which was frustrating. I think for the money i was expecting more but really i think a travel lodge would give them a good run for their money and leave you with plenty of money in your pocket!

Room Tip: Book early to get a sea view room.

We stayed for one night as a little break in July, as we live only about an hour away on the same coast, so it wasn't at all a big break. Despite this, it was very enjoyable; the prices, in retrospect to the experience, were very good. The room was both cosy and crisply furnished, and very clean - as was the bathroom. There's lots of information about the area and things to do for all interests and ages, which I imagine that would be extremely helpful if you're not familiar with the area. Furthermore, we were offered 1 free surfing lesson each at the Extreme Academy during our stay, and although the weather wasn't good enough it just goes to show how this hotel can really cater for all tastes and offer a really diverse and fun experience even in a short space of time! The dining, though, was the highlight. I highly recommend the restaurant overlooking the beach - where the delicious food and stunning view (even in poor weather) battled for our attention! The hotel also has it's own restaurant, which again was memorably good. The food is all really fresh, and the staff and atmosphere are very complimentary of it.
I really recommend this hotel for anyone, but especially if you are new to or visiting the area; it's a really great base for exploring Newquay and has a truly fabulous location which the owners obviously have not underestimated in their investment in the hotel!

Room Tip: The rooms are all equally well appointed, so no particular one; we were nervous of staying in one th...
