“Absolute best stay for a real break with kids”
Reviewed 14 August 2012

We stayed for one week celebrating my father in laws 70th birthday and had 3 teenagers, 6 adults and my 3yr old son with us. We can honestly say it was the best holiday stay we coudl ahve hoped for with such a diverse group. The kids club is fantastic, food was superb and kids tea excellent and staff were really the friendliest and most helpful of any hotel in a long time.
We had an absolutely superb stay and cannot keep going on about how lovely the spaces are in the hotel. You can get peace and quiet and yet be with a large group in teh bar/restaurant/pool areas. Its a fantastic holiday catered to help [arents have a break as well as kids have fun and the in house baby monitoring system is excellent in allowing us to have dinner and an early evening swim knwoing the kids were safe. They are introducing a video system soon but the fact the hotel even caters with a second childs bedroom in the coach house makes this a dream of a vacation as the kids were at peace and mum and dad had some time together. A remarkable hotel concept with charm and atmosphere to make it 1st class! Will be back in a shot!

Room Tip: Coach house with two bedroom suites are incredible chance for family space and quiet.

This was 2 night stay for our 30th anniversary. Reading previous comments I will add;friendly very helpful staff at reception, we were offered help with our bags, our room lived up to expectations (136), great views over the bay but agree that something should be done to soften the view of the flat roof, comfortable bed, great décor, surprised that there was no mini fridge, no drinking water, no ground coffee, no biscuits, good bath products, great towels but no hooks to dry them (towel rail too small) great bath and shower, had to prop open balcony door at night with chair to cool the room, loved the pool, (you need to bring your own toiletries down with you),ate in the bar area, the food was inedible, we had pork and beef burgers that tasted and looked like spam fritters without the batter, waitress apologised but that was all, we should said more at the time but just wanted to get out.
The lounge near the pool was quiet and inviting. Some more effort with the food at breakfast and in the bar is needed, room service might help those who wish for a quieter breakfast experience, it is only offered up to 8.am for those who need to get away early.Over all obviously a great place for families and some lovely spaces, I was just expecting just a few more special touches considering the price.

Just returned after a week's stay at the hotel. Very impressed with the pool and the fact that there were adult only times as there were a lot of families with young children staying at the hotel due to summer holidays starting. The new lounge downstairs has a lot more of a relaxed feel and great for chilling out in after a swim or the hot tub. Our room was spacious and clean, food was good the specials were good in the living space. It was very busy so think if we come again we will come at an off peak time.

We have stayed at this hotel three times now, as a family, over the last three years. It is a very friendly hotel. Very relaxed. Perhaps a little too relaxed for me. I'm not great with people running around the hotel covered in sand and wearing wetsuits. I know I am probably a bit out of date here. However it has not stopped us from returning year after year. My son enjoys the surfing and he has been able to add his surfing to the room account with very helpful staff on the beach and an integrated billing system. Food was great, although our teenage children wanted to eat out as much as possible as they did not enjoy the food. Its a great place to stay if you are visiting Fifteen Cornwall which is just across the car park. Staggering back after dark was quite safe. The hotel uses excellent and very friendly staff who cannot do enough to help, at any time of day. I had a great massage with my wife, in the Spa. Never had one before but it was amazing. Its a dog friendly hotel too, so there are loads of dogs wandering around (all on leads) . We will probably not go next year as this year the weather was pretty poor, not the hotels fault, we will go for some Spanish or Portuguese sun. But the bill was £4500 for the four of us, in two rooms. Not cheap.

We stayed as a family of four for one night. The location is fantastic right on the sandy beach with excellent views out to watch the surfers. Surfing is not my thing but you can still enjoy the view, the beach and the stunning indoor pool. All the staff were helpful and friendly, the hotel is relaxed and family focused.

Our room was clean, fresh and new but a little small, there aren't any extras like slippers or water but there are toiletries and a fridge and microwave . I think we had the most basic room type and this was adequate. Our room was a little noisy as next to the road but it was too hot if you shut the window ( we were lucky to stay during the heatwave). The children had bunkbeds and a DVD player available in their room. The shower over bath was powerful.

We liked the cafe/ bar area, relaxed, great views and good food and drink at reasonable prices. The dinner provider on the DBB rate was amazing value. We had some refreshing feta and walnut salad, salmon starter, beef ragu, roast lamb and cheesecake pudding all presented beautifully, portions are small but more than enough. Wine was reasonably priced a bottle for about £18 was easily available. Breakfast was nice but it was self service which we do find a bit off putting a table service option would be welcome.

The infinity pool is a lovely experience overlooking the beach and there were plenty of cushioned seats to relax inside and out, the changing rooms were clean and tidy but no toiletries in here. A word of warning you can not let your (smaller) children go down to the beach from the decked area on their own as they can not come back up without going back round to the other hotel entrance. perhaps this stops sand coming in?

There is a childrens games room but it was very quiet when we were there we could not find a ball for the table football etc and there were no organised activities going on despite them being advertised. However we were only there one night so this may not be a fair assessment. Children also get a free 3 hour surf lesson if they want it.

We would like to visit again particularly in good weather and would like to try the sea facing rooms.

Our daughter and son in law stayed for a week with grandchildren. We met them for lunch
a few times. Loved the lunches and thought the hotel seemed really nice.

Our grand daughters aged 9 and 8 had a fabulous time even though it rained most of the time.
They took surfing lessons and swam in the pool every day.

The hotel is in the most lovely location overlooking the sea with huge glass windows for
wonderfull sea views.

I book hotels for a living and usually not too bothered about staying, however have booked
this one in September for my anniversay!!!!

My boyfriend and I booked up for a last minute break for four nights at the Watergate. I can honestly say our break surpassed all our expectations, thanks to the Watergate we hardly even notices the poor weather.

As we had booked at such short notice we had to move room twice but the Watergate arranged this both times at minimal inconvenience to us. The location is idyllic, hotel is stunning and service was exemplary. Even though it was a busy time the hotel never felt too cramped so it was a thoroughly relaxing break.

We're looking forward to returning soon, hopefully with some better weather!
