It's expensive for sure, especially the drinks, which takes the fun out of enjoying yourself while watching the sun going down.
Great location and family orientated style hotel and beach feel. Staff are young and attentive and relaxed, maybe too relaxed.
Pool is great .
This Hotel has grown steadily over the Last 10 years and is a bonus to the area, they just need to be a bit less expensive on the food and bar,
It is relaxed chilled atmosphere, even with kids and dogs, winter time is the best time to see the awesome violent seas and weather

Having heard a lot about Watergate Bay, and wanting a bit of a treat - I stayed there last weekend, and I have to say it was thoroughly disappointing. Even at mid season, the prices are expensive, and despite having a wonderful view from our room, our room was small, and lacked the finesse that you would expect for the price of £190.00 per night. The website certainly does not reflect the actual experience itself, and the decor is out dated - especially where we had breakfast, which for me, resembled a leisure centre. It was full of children, but I had expected that - I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a romantic destination - despite it's amazing location. The best part of our trip was going to Fifteen - which I would recommend, but can't say that I would happily recommend Watergate Bay, unless you wanted an expensive, family friendly hotel.

We loved every minute. Breakfast was lovely and fresh and simple, location perfect, staff were very polite and attentive (apart from a very odd pool attendant that we stumbled upon who was very rude). The rooms were clean bright and fresh, the bed was big and comfy and best of all the weather was amazing! We dinned at all three restaurants in the bay all were lovely in their own way. The pool and sun deck were great tho slightly small for the size of the hotel, only eight sun loungers but there is always the beach. Great coast walk just steps away from the hotel. Parking was a bit confusing when you first arrive but basically you can park anywhere (inc beach car park) all in all had a fab time.

We were only at the hotel for one night and stayed in a Better King Room. The room itself was good, well decorated, clean and big and the bathroom even bigger. The only negative was the curtains, which weren't quite wide enough for the windows and looked like they needed replacing. The products in there were lovely and I treated myself to some from the Swim Club before we left. To make the most of the facilities we swam and relaxed in the hot tub on the decking during the afternoon. It is a wonderful view out over Watergate Bay and it felt like we could have been thousands of miles away somewhere tropical! Breakfast was pretty hectic and I think the downside to our trip. A lot had run out though it was regularly being topped up when staff were prompted though they were busy clearing tables to make space for other guests. We would return as the setting and service other than this was excellent but may elect to remove the breakfast option.

We stayed here for 3 nights with our son, daughter in law and grandson and dog and had a truly wonderful time.
The stunning views and light bright living space are really nice and welcoming. The pool a good size bright and airy. We were lucky enough to have the outer windows of the fabulous pool open and were able to use the sun loungers whilst watching our family splashing around.
We ate in the rather dingy dining room for 3 nights however the food was exceptional and the service really good.
We had booked a better room but we overlooked windows in the main building and the car park so we did feel a bit disappointed. It was not worth the extra money and should be charged at standard rate only!
Service was slow on the sun deck and living space but fantastic in the dining room and the staff are very friendly and helpful in all areas
It is certainly a family oriented hotel although the food was so good we will go again on our own not perhaps a hotel I would recommend for a romantic weekend!

Room Tip: You need to book a room with an ocean view

This was my third visit over the last couple of years
Went down to do some surfing and reading for my thesis for two nights after a wedding nearby, to make the most of the long drive.

Good points:

Superb location - literally right on what is probably the UK's best surfing/watersports beach

They let dogs stay (which I didn't have) but thought this was a nice touch

The food is good at breakfast (the experience less so, see below...)

Comfy beds

Fast, free Wifi throughout

Bad points:

Children! everywhere! screaming all day and all night!

Noise - if it wasn't children running around in all the public spaces/corridors then it was delivery lorries at 5am, noisy staff etc. public spaces have hard floors which only makes it worse

Nowhere peaceful to sit, the ocean room is allegedly an adult space but was full of kids and crying babies when I was there

Generally atrocious service. Most of the staff are very young and look like they are doing work experience and clearly have no proper training. Piles of plates/glasses left on tables, no cleaning etc. Had to constantly go up to the bar when it was meant to be table service. Some polite and charming, others surly, all seemed clueless. No clear management/senior presence at any point. Most of the waitresses were too busy chatting amongst themselves about their plans for when they finished their shift and who fancied who.

The restaurant - overlooks carpark which is disappointing considering fabulous location. Terrible service at breakfast which was more like a motorway service station with children running around putting their fingers in the food, harrassed and inexperienced waiting staff

Decor, probably fabulous when new, now starting to look tired and grubby

Over-priced - especially the bar

My advice:

Its gone very much downhill in terms of service and overall experience in the last year or so, for the prices it charges it should be excellent, but falls short. Shame as it could be fantastic given the location.

I would only recommend this place to people with young kids +/- dog and who don't mind paying London prices.....but take earplugs if you want to sleep!!

If not......avoid!!!

Room Tip: road facing rooms noisy due to passing traffic and early morning delivery lorries
