“Lovely stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 October 2013

It was lovely to return to Watergate Bay. We stayed in a family suite this time which is located in the Coach House not in the main hotel. The suite comprised a main bedroom, a child's room and a bathroom. There was plenty of space for us and the dog. There were also tea and coffee facilities. I'm not sure how old these suites are but they are already showing small signs of wear and tear - mould on bathroom tiles, plaster coming off the wall. But nonetheless was very comfortable and did not affect the stay.

Service and food was much better than our previous stay. Reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. Room service was a sample menu from the Living Space but was really good and arrived quickly. Food at the Beach Hut is also much better. Staff were also very good trying to be as accommodating as possible with our baby and dog.

Our only complaint would be that the cleaning was a little slap dash. This may have been because our dog was in the room when they came so couldn't do a proper job but they should have come back or left and come back later, maybe leaving a note asking us to call when convenient; if nothing else for their own safety they shouldn't clean a room with a dog they don't know in there.

But in all a fab stay. We will be back next year!

Fantastic location - the beach is literally on your doorstep (ultimate convenience). Wonderful views from the 2 lounges and pool. 2 good spaces to relax and enjoy food, drink and company. Very relaxing pool and hot tub - shame there aren't other spa facilities. Great lunch and dinner food in the lounge and the breakfast is delicious. Wonderful, friendly service. The bedrooms are well decorated but it's disappointing more don't have a sea view or partial sea view. Good all rounder hotel for couples, families and friends. Looking forward to seeing the refurbished restaurant in the new year.

We have just returned from a three day "Taste of the Bay" break. This is our second stay at this lovely hotel set on a spectacular beach and it did not disappoint. It was such a lovely idea having dinner in three locations, The Beach Hut, dinner in the hotel and on our last night at Jamie's Fifteen restaurant. Staff friendly and helpful. However as we are adult only (our children are grown up) we would not wish to stay in summer holidays probably too crowded and noisy! Saying this we can recommend this hotel, it is certainly worth staying for a wonderful getaway break.

This hotel had a great location if you want great views and be close to the beach! We loved the outside terrace area and watched the sunset with a nice glass of wine. Special mention to the lounge waiter John who seemed to have time for everyone but no one seemed to be left waiting great asset to the Hotel!

Visited Watergate Bay as a "Taste of the Bay" package and had another excellent experience. Some of the wrinkles from last time were fixed (bathroom too hot with no control), although there was still only one comfortable chair in a room for two people with a sea view and plenty of room for another.
The staff here are fantastic, so friendly and helpful and the food is excellent.

Room Tip: The rooms in the turrets (7 and 27) have that bit of extra room and a view over the bay, but do come...

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Hotel with our 19 month old twins. The room we were given was as far from the front of the hotel as possible with lots of stairs...not great with two toddlers. As work was being done the car park close to the rear was closed - although this was not made clear on booking. The staff car park was right opposite but it was only when I complained they did something about it. The second bedroom had bunk beds and a single bed which I guessed we're fixed so the two travel cots were wedged in. One travel cot collapsed while my daughter was in it (she was having a lunchtime nap) and she managed to climb out. Luckily there was no harm done but there could have been. Again I complained and this was rectified. We were not told about the nannying service either which would have been useful. We loved our stay - despite the hiccups and will go back but we did feel that there needs to be better communication between staff departments. Our room overlooked a building site!

Room Tip: Probably try and get a room in the main house.

We stayed at this hotel for a day or two hoping to do a bit of surfing. Unfortunately there was no surf but it was still very enjoyable. The hotel is well laid out, quite chic and in a great spot. The bar/living area with terrace is fun. Quality of staffing is a little variable; the reception staff were very good but the bar staff a bit disinterested and cocky. Somewhere we will go to again.
