This was absolutely great. The food was fabulous as well as the pool. It was great and really peaceful. it also had a great baby's pool. The only thing about the pool was they should have another deeper bigger children's pool where your aloud to jump, dive, splash and play with water toys. The surfing place next to watergate bay was great and so was the beach. All the rooms were fab. This is a good place to go.

Room Tip: I stayed in a family room with a double bed and a bunk bed I suspect all the other rooms are just as...

It would have been easy for the owners to trade on the fantastic beach and amazing views of Watergate Bay itself and not try hard with the hotel. They could probably still get away with high rates in the peak seasons. But they haven’t and this is an excellent all round hotel.

The Watergate Bay hotel is about having an enjoyable relaxing holiday and it caters fully for the modern age of family. The hotels mission back in the early 1900’s can be read on a poster in the reception area. This has essentially continued in its newer incarnation.

It’s an extremely child and canine friendly hotel and it suited us perfectly. Our little girl and our pampered pooch enjoyed it immensely. The facilities for both are outstanding. If you can’t tolerate kids/dogs then . . . . consider elsewhere.

They have really invested energy in making the hotel the best. Over time it has been fully refurbished and they have made use of the spaces brilliantly. Public areas are well thought out and are excellent. We loved every area. Rooms are wonderful, modern interior design and cheerfully decorated. We had a family room. Perfect with separate bunk room.

Staff were consistently good. Obviously well trained, very keen to please and be hospitable. Most were British, although accents gave away that they were not always local, a smattering of European staff. Just goes to show that home grown talent does work in the UK.

I can wax lyrical about the location. The bay itself is outstanding. The beach wonderful. Why do you need to get on a plane when you have this on your doorstep. (BTW the answer is the weather)

What did we love? The Living Space area where we based our days. So relaxing. Views from the terrace. Sunsets. Entire experience at Fifteen. The beach. The welcoming and “can do” attitude of every member of staff. Some great touches like the video baby monitoring and kids dinner hour.

Improvements? Minor. Would have liked to see kippers at breakfast and a Cornish afternoon/cream tea. Disabled rooms have heavy metal entrance doors. Not sure what they were thinking here.

Tips: The Taste of the bay package makes it better value. Don’t fret about parking next to your room. There is a large car park just yards away. Try Jamie Oliver Fiteen, also outstanding.

Room Tip: Website has descriptions, photos and room map which are accurate. Use it to find your preference.

We recently stayed in the Watergate Bay Hotel and there's no doubt it's a cut above the rest. We booked into a deluxe room @ £240/night and secured a room with a sea view. It had french doors and a small balcony overlooking the car park and the sea to the right. The bedroom had a bath in the room next to a window which looked out onto the beach. The stylish bathroom had a double shower and overall the furnishings were lovely. The contemporary relaxed style of the place was great and we loved the swimming pool and outside area (although sun loungers were claimed by some hotel guests with towels, which was disappointing). The staff were very welcoming and friendly and we did feel relaxed, walking around the hotel in bare feet and in relaxed clothing. Breakfast was great - fresh waffles and lots of hot and cold choices. We ate dinner in Jame's Fifteen (disappointing) and the Beach Hut (great) but didn't eat in the hotel (seemed very expensive). We walked out on the beach several times a day and it can't be beaten for location but we were amazed at the fact dogs are allowed in the bedrooms and on the beach and it seemed everyone else apart from us had a dog. We loved our stay but would probably be put off staying there again unless the hotel could gauarantee some of their rooms were kept as doggie free. A romantic place nonetheless.

Room Tip: A room with a balcony overlooking the beach

This is a really difficult one and I toyed between very good and excellent for a while because we did have a really good trip to the Watergate Bay Hotel, we stayed on the Taste of the Bay deal which we felt was really good value for money and well worth doing. For us the positives were that we were there in February so although the weather wasn't brilliant it did mean that the hotel itself and the beach were much quieter, still not quiet I have to admit but much nicer than I can imagine it being in the height of the summer. We also avoided school holidays which meant there werent too many children there, it is undoubtedly a child friendly hotel which is great if you have children! We did find that the residential lounge downstairs was much quieter particularly for early evening drinks but it did lack a bit of the atmosphere that the public upstairs bar/restaurant area has with its amazing views over the sea. For us, we like the relaxed feel of the hotel, it wasnt a problem that there was sand all over the carpet in the lobby the staff were really relaxed about it and so were we it's just that sort of hotel. The bedroom was ok, not great but not awful, it's a standard size with a standard bathroom, it was all very clean. The sheets didn't feel like cotton which was a slight disappointment and I wouldn't say its the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in, the decor was very geared towards summer so being winter and freezing outside it lacked that cozy feel. However, the balcony and the ever changing view were worth it no matter what the weather. The food was good, service was good but better when they were less busy, friendly staff some lacked experience for instance one waitress dropped a jug of water right beside our table picked up the jug but made no attempt to clear the ice or the water, it was ok as it was a wooden floor but would have thought it could have been a bit of a slip hazzard! The hotel car parks of which there are 2 are small and spaces are limited but there is a large overspill public beach car park right next door, I would have thought parking in the summer though would be a bit of a nightmare! Overall we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would definitely go back on the Taste of the Bay deal but probably would avoid those busy summer months.

Room Tip: Ensure you get a room with a view, personally I would compromise on the size of the room to get the...

We just needed a relaxing chill out weekend in one of our favourite places, which holds many happy memories for me and my husband. We went to watergate bay hotel about 6/7 years ago and it was fantastic then. Now that they have done even more to it, it's superb. The views as one other reviewer has mentioned, are fantastic and the hotel as made the very best of that. The hotel staff are so friendly and helpful, they go out of their way to help, the food was excellent, our room and our view was fantastic and we can't wait to come back. Thank you to the staff who found a ring of mine I left in the draw that I'd forgotten to pack and on phoning me to let me know as we were on our way home have returned it back to me. Thank you for making our stay as perfect as we wanted it.

Room Tip: We had an ocean view room which was fantastic.

Yes there are some elements that I would change if I could - the view over the car park and an adults only bar - but all in all this is a very good hotel. We had a front facing Best room and it was large and comfortable.
The Taste of The Bay idea is a great one - eat at each of their beach house, and main restaurant and Fifteen on separate nights - as choosing off same menu 3 nights running can be limiting sometimes.
Only slight letdown for me was the breakfast which was all self-service with no opportunities for the things I expect at this price level and in this location e.g. kippers!

We booked the Taste of the Bay package including an upgrade to a sea view room and thought it was excellent value. The hotel has been designed to make the best of the views and we loved it all. The three meals were all excellent (we have reviewed them separately) - at Zacrys, Beach Hut & Fifteen. The pool & spa area is excellent. Every single member of staff was very friendly and seemed happy in their work. All in all highly recommended. We will definitely go back again - but maybe for longer
