“A night of rest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2012

Stayed here to get a night's rest from noisy children that were left with grandparents! It's set in a nice quiet location down a long drive. Rooms are well furnished and very comfortable - ours had a view over Porth beach. Room service (snack and breakfast) were both very good. The bar/restaurant has a good view over Porth beach and the selection on the menu was good. Portions of food were very generous. Didn't try the spa.

Myself and my husband were married at the Glendorgal 3 weeks ago in March this year (See the Father-In-Law's review below!!). I just wanted to add a comment to back up how amazing the Glendorgal was. The staff were fantastic and the day couldn't have gone any better, it was just perfect.
The accomodation, both in the hotel and self-catering, was great. Fairly basic, not luxurious, but clean and comfortable. The food provided during our wedding day was delicious, we have had many comments from our guests saying it was the best wedding meal they have ever had! Brock, Sophie & the rest of the staff really went above and beyond to make sure everything was just as we wanted.
The Glendorgal is in such a beautiful location, the views of the coast are amazing. Even just driving down the winding road leading to the hotel it takes your breath away. If I didn't live in Cornwall already I would definitely go back here on holiday.
I cannot rate this hotel and it's staff high enough! You made our day. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!

Room Tip: Go for one with a sea view if possible! If not, Family Room 19 is spacious, light & airy!

My son and now daughter-in law held their Wedding at this stunning hotel on 24th March 2012.
Many friends and family travelled from all over the country to attend, and no one was disappointed. The wedding organiser Brock was superb and ensured that the day went smoothly without any problems.

The hotel is situated in its own grounds with fantastic views of the coastline and Porth Beach. All the guests that I spoke to were happy with their rooms, although they did vary in size quite a bit. There are about twenty eight rooms, and our Wedding party filled them all. Other guests stayed in nearby lodges attached to the hotel or in other hotels in Newquay.

The actual wedding ceremony was held in a room which looked out onto the natural coastline and everyone was blown away by this. There is plenty of space in the hotel and various rooms to hold different events.

The Wedding Breakfast and Evening Buffet was excellent, as were all the staff from the receptionists to waitresses and bar staff nothing was too much trouble for any of them.
The newleyweds live in Cornwall so could have chosen any of the plentiful hotels nearby, but after looking around settled on the Glendorgal.

I have only one small complaint, and that is that the breakfasts served to guests in the morning are quite small, and for £10.00 each should be improved on. This observation was muted to me by several guests, so come on management take a look at what other hotels have to offer and make your hotel the the best in Cornwall for everything!!!

I would not hesitate to visit here in the future.

Room Tip: If possible, avoid Rooms 8 and 9 at all costs. They are VERY small compared to other rooms, with on...

A hotel that promises much but ultimately falls short. Good points:
- People very friendly
- Service ok (Room service and Breakfast for instance)
- Great view from restaurant
- Generally pleasant atmosphere
- Fabulous views over cliffs if you walk outside
- Breakfast cooked to order

Poor points:
- Breakfast choice very limited - fruit was some grapefruit and prunes, 2 cereals - toast was do it yourself;
- No proper tea - just a hot water urn and tea bags (Now for me, this is a criminal office in England - water must be boiling for tea and I expect a pot - I might put up with this nonsense in Europe but not here)
- Cleaning of the rooms - my room had some (apple?) seeds in the carpet, and in the bathroom more alongside an elastic band - these remained there throughout my stay
- WiFi - whilst cheap at £5 and gives an equivalent £5 off at the bar, I still think WiFi should be free

Had room service a couple of times - both good. Apparently they don't do lunches which could be an issue. An odd place really - at this time of year many visitors will be business people like me and really expect better than this. I can see that others may have better experiences, especially in season - but I would avoid returning myself.

You should also be aware that it is not very close to Newquay - so if you want to go out you will need a car. I was also disturbed the first night by noise from other rooms (WC being flushed and snoring next door).

Booked through late rooms, paid £228 for two nights, room only, for a family of four. Room 19 was spacious and clean with 'sea glimpses'! It was great to be so close to the beach and the views were stunning. We ate in the restaurant the first night. Unfortunately they did not have enough mussels for a main meal. The waitress then explained that there were no coffee beans for a cup of coffee at the end of the meal. She was lovely and made a cup of instant for my wife from the staff area! The following day there was no hot chocolate left in the afternoon! We did not have breakfast - £12 a person without the guarantee of a cup of coffee was a little steep. (try the Lakeside Cafe!). The gym was good as was the pool area. Sadly this was out of action on the first day. Overall it was good value for the money we paid but it was a shame that our dining experiences were not more positive!

Even through the windy mist we could see what a beautiful spot this would be in good weather. We had no choice with our time of year but my sister did manage a great walk along the cliffs, the bridge, and the water below while being buffeted by the almost gale force winds.
The rooms were nice and clean and very sufficient. There were two negatives and it might have been the time of year where the main staff was off duty. The person at the desk was minimally helpful to say the least. One needs to know how to "sell" the area if they are going to work with vacationers. The waitress was friendly and delivered good service and knowledge of the area. We dined at the restaurant there twice and enjoyed it very much both times.
The second negative was due to the neighbors in the next door room which was occupied at 3:00 AM by very drunk and loud men who staggered loudly up the stairs and then shouted at each other for ages. That happened two nights in a row and we were ready to leave after that. The thin walls got a wearing.
I have one more comment to make on the internet service. We were told that it would be about 5 pounds to get wifi...That is outrageous in the year of 2012. Please modernise a bit.

Room Tip: Don't be aftraid to ask for a room with a view. They have them and we should have asked.
