This is a nice hotel in a nice place. The staff are lovely. But you need to be aware that if there is a wedding you come second as there are parts of the hotel you cannot go into like the bar. We got there on Saturday afternoon after a long drive, it was lunch time there was a wedding going on we asked if we old order a sandwich to be told they do not serve lunch on any day and that the restaurant is also closed on Sunday night. So once we put our bags in our room which was quite small we had to go and find a shop. The information folder in the room mentions a lights bite menu when I asked about it I was told it was out of date. On the web site it mentions stairs going down to the beach when the tide is out these are no normal stairs and I think quite dangerous for young children.

The Glendorgal was probably superb several years ago when I guess it was last 'done up'. Now it's OK, but a bit rough around the edges. My room was clean and tidy but the bathroom was a bit dank, with previous occupants hair around the base of the loo and all the grouting on the floor tiles was missing. Also the TV in the room was the smallest I have ever seen, in quite a spacious room. The bar/restaurant is pleasant and spacious. The bar is well-stocked and staffed by pleasant people. The menu is a bit limited and the portions a bit miserly, but the food is acceptable enough. Cracking location though, overlooking a rocky cove but you pay for this in the room prices. Overall this hotel is considerably better than most of the dross in Newquay, but don't expect luxury!

We booked this hotel for just the one night to celebrate our 28th anniversary, and was advised by the receptionist that a wedding was taking place the day/evening of our stay. As it was our "date" too it seemed kind of appropriate so did not mind. I asked the receptionist if it would have any impact on our stay and was advised no, but that there would not be any kind of lunch available due to the kitchen being occupied in preparation for the wedding breakfast but we could have drinks on the terrace etc. Fair enough we thought, so I booked on a B&B basis and also for dinner that evening.

We arrived at about 3pm to be told that as the wedding speeches were taking place, we were not allowed in any of the bars to get a drink, but we could make tea/coffee in our room! We complained to the receptionist that that is not what we were told upon booking, but she could not offer any resolution, only that if we wanted drinks we could ask her, who in turn would go to the bar and bring us drinks on the terrace. It was a lovely day so we agreed. A jug of Pimms was brought out to us (lacking in ice it has to be said) and we sat on the deckchairs that were there and settled down to admire the impressive view. We had been there for about an hour when the wedding guests started to pour out of one function rooms and onto the terrace whilst the other function room was prepared for them. We did not interfere with their day and carried on with our drinks. After a short while a member of staff kneeled down between us and asked us to move, saying that the wedding guests had "exclusive use of the function rooms and terrace area". The lady requested we vacate the area and go and sit on a picnic bench near the car park! We could not believe it - it was so embarassing - the wedding guests would have known exactly what was being said to us. So basically, apart from the gym, car park or our room, everything else was out of bounds until 7.30 when the restaurant was opened up to "regular" paying guests. It is interesting that someone else on here had a similar experience to ours whilst a wedding was taking place.

We had booked an ocean view room (our room was called Driftwood) and the views of the bay (if you ignore the flat roof directly in front of you) were amazing. The room was ok, and my only criticism would be that the hairdryer was stored in the left hand bedside cabinet and was secured via a hole in the back of the cabinet so could not be moved! Clearly they are trying to avoid it being stolen, but what about placing a mirror near to where the hairdryer actually is?

We had dinner in the restaurant, but frankly, I wouldn't bother again. No specials, very basic and presented on a really small weird plates with far too much salad. We ordered Prosecco with our dinner but it hadn't been kept in the chiller so the waiter put it in a bucket of ice, which took 2 hours to chill properly. We didn't bother opening it , as the moment had passed, and brought the bottle home with us. Travellers would be well advised to avoid dinner here, but that said, the breakfast was ok the next morning.

Sorry for the long ramble, but wanted to spell out exactly what we experienced and if this helps others in their booking choices, it will have served a purpose.

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra for an ocean view - we stayed in "Driftwood"

I had my wedding here in June and it was amazing, the location, the views and the staff were all a huge help in planning my wedding from afar! They work really hard and nothing was too much trouble. I think you just have to appreciate it's a laid back/beach way of life in Newquay so it might seem that people are taking there time! All or guests had an amazing time and it really is the perfect location for a chilled out wedding. Zack the chef was great and the food was all delicious.
We stayed for 1 week in self catering apartment number 4, and it was amazing, we had the most amazing views, I could lie in bed and see/listen to the waves, perfect place to relax. Lovely patio area with the truly most amazing view. We had nobody staying either side of us which made it more private. All the rooms were finished to a high standard with lovely comfy beds and a big bath. Your so close to all the sites of Newquay which makes this a perfect location, you hardly need to use your car. You can walk down to the beaches easily. I just love it here and will be coming back. Oh and the weather was amazing the week we were down.

Room Tip: Apartment 4 self catering for amazing views

Booked hotel seven months ago, £140+ per night, and rang to request beach view but was discouraged on the grounds that I was getting a superior room with balcony. Arrived at midday to be told rooms not ready! Sweltering heat and no air conditioning, balcony turned out to be sticky patio doors leading to a passageway with view of brick wall. Stained carpets, bulbs blown, leaking toilet, lacking in coffee and tea (one cup only) with no spoons to stir, dangerous steps as you enter the room and half way across the floor, unbearable noise from above (squeaky floor boards), uncomfortable beds and rubbish pillows, finally, couldn't care less attitude........... VERY DISAPPOINTING. I wasted my hard earned money, don't waste yours.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel.

I booked a last minute night's stay here to allow my girlfriend and I to enjoy a drink at the Lusty Glaze beach concerts. At £168 for a double room I was expecting aircon, inclusive wifi, a towel each, a tea bag each(!), better (or any) sound insulation from neighbouring rooms but these were lacking. That aside, the receptionist was very welcoming and the room was clean. The easy stroll to Lusty Glaze and Porth beaches away from the throngs of Newquay are what you are paying for.

did complain about room and heat which was not hotel fault only faulty air con. moved to another room and what a difference bigger, clean, no complaints on the new room .
shower is a problem as other reviews said hot, cold,
Breakfast was very disappointing sausage . well I think it just qualified as one
Plus points great location and the young lady on reception very helpful in sorting out problem for the money would say better around but not with such great views
