“A Pearl in Porth”
Reviewed 26 April 2013

Just returned from a four-day stay at the Whipsiderry in Porth, near Newquay. What a great place! A truly traditional, family hotel which serves excellent food and is run by just about the nicest couple you could ever meet - Andy and Lisa Burbidge. If you are looking for superb value for money, stunning coastal views, and a friendly, family atmosphere, this is the place for you. Its location makes it ideal as a base for exploring both the north and south coast of Cornwall, there are wonderful, sandy beaches nearby, and plenty of attractions to visit, such as the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

This is a family run hotel in a good location. We had booked to here 2 nights to travel the northern coast. We booked a Morgana Suite which was on the ground floor over looking the garden with large bay windows. The general deco was good but old / traditional style rather than modern - probably suits the older clientele that they get. The bathroom definitely needs updating as its large room and can do lots with it. we went for a walk and afterwards went for a bath - however there wasn't enough hot water so had a warm shallow paddle instead :(
Lisa & Andy are good hosts and very welcoming. one thing I would say is that they need to make better use of the views they have - breakfast/dining room over looks a car park!?

Our 2nd stay in this hotel it's location is fab you can be at most places of interest within 30 mins, the cheif Robert has been there for 15 years and his food is wonderfull fresh, and well balanced, they seem to cater for lots of different diets as there were a family staying the same time as us who had 2 coeliacs and a vegan in their family, talking to them at the bar they were very impressed with their meals. We loved the local beaches and the cliff top walks will hopefully be back later in the year!

I Have stayed at the Whipsiderry Hotel Many Times, and really love it, it feels like a second home. Lisa and Andy are so very kind and I enjoy their friendship and hospitality. There is always a very warm welcome . The food is excellent with lots of Cornish produce, and Robs deserts are amazing. The Hotel is always so very clean and well looked after. I love Cornwall there is so much to see and do and the Whipsiderry is in a superb position for this. It has fantastic views as well. I would highly recommend it. I adore staying here it is a very special Hotel.

My sister had her wedding reception at the Whipsiderry. It was fantastic. All guests were made to feel very welcome, wedding food and breakfasts were yummy, rooms were very comfortable and cleaned daily. The views from the hotel across Porth beach are amazing. Most memorable was the kindness and helpfulness of the proprieters, Lisa and Andy, who did all they could to ensure a homely and happy stay. I would recommend this to all, as a holiday or as a wedding venue.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the sea, beach and gardens are amazing

My husband and I attended Newquay Trenance Bowling Club Annual Luncheon this weekend at the Whipsiderry Hotel for the second year running. On both occasions we received a very warm welcome from Lisa and Andy and enjoyed a friendly drink in the well stocked bar before lunch. The dining room was amply spacious seating approximately 50 people comfortably with tables of 8 beautifully laid up with starched white table cloths. Most importantly the meal and the service were excellent. I would recommend anyone to hold a function here.
