I was a bit wary about staying at a "surf lodge" having seen the reviews for some of them in Newquay and being used to staying at hotels but I tried to come to Reef with an open mind but I'm not going to lie...I had visions of grimy dirty rooms with no space and mouldy bathrooms. I was pleasantly surprised-it was clean, modern and a refreshing change. The staff were really friendly and helpful and sorted us out with some really cheap deals like breakfast every morning (really good!) and they got us set up with their surf school-having never surfed before we were apprehensive but loved it so much we upgraded our package and surfed every day! The lodge is located right in town too which is a big plus but security were really great and we didnt have any problems with drunken yobs like we had expected! Definitely give reef a shot-we'll definitely be back!

i go to newquay at least 2 times a year to surf and i picked reef surf lodge for the first time as the prices were good. ive stayed in plenty of different lodges in and around newquay and they dont compare to reef for the money they are charging.as for the bad reviews people have got to realise that it is infact NEWQUAY and not PARIS!! and also it is a SURF LODGE....! NOT the ritz........ if you want silver service in newquay then id advice trying the hotel victoria which is 175 pound a night!!!!! otherwise if your looking for a good priced easy get away for a week or a few days id definately recommend reef surf lodge! also i was really happy with the attitude of the staff and the way they helped with any problems i had. being a surfer i was really pleased that they had facilities such as the board store where i could keep my gear when i wasnt using it which was locked away securely. overall was very pleased with my stay.

Having deciding to get some fresh sea air and relax at a beach, myself and the gang from work decided a trip to Newquay for a couple of days would be perfect. We were looking for a no-thrills, cheap roof over our heads. For what we paid I was expecting a shack, however when we got there I was amazed by the incredible modern decor, fresh and youthful feeling that spread its way through all the hallways. The actual room itself wasn't really impressive and if I had to make a criticism it would be the shoving of too many bunk beds in a single room but this really didn't matter when you’re paying pennies. The bathroom was very clean and even after 5 other people had used the shower, for quite I while, I was pleasantly surprised that it was still hot and powerful.
There was also a small bar downstairs which was very reasonable priced and offered a really good cooked breakfast in the morning. It too was filled with funky decor and was a very nice place to sit and relax. The location was also brilliant, being a minuets walk from supermarkets, the local high street and all the various, gorgeous beaches Newquay has too offer.
Although it's not a hotel, meaning extras like a laundry service are not included, the Reef Surf lodge was an excellent, pound saving adventure - perfect for large groups of friends!

Congratulations to the marketing company - a job well done!
But thats where the congratulations end.
Parking - non existent!
Wifi - off more than it was on!
Rooms tiny (about 8 foot square with two sets of bun beds in it!)
Tv mounted above the doorway??
Tv remotes didnt work.
No other furniture, chairs, tables, wardrobe in the rooms (it wouldnt fit!!)
Bar cafe - never open past breakfast!

Its certainly not worth the £25 per night - for £30 we moved out a day early and into a 3 star hotel (that had lights, tv, kettle etc).

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else!!

I went on a holiday with friends there were eight of us in a room, no storage space for cases and the room was tiny, shower was grubby and the whole place was dirty and poor quality no comfort here! They also take a deposit for damages which never gets returned we are going to the small claims court to get our money back! They also expect you to take your rubbish home with you when you leave which s an odd thing for a hotel to expect they also expect you to pay for the room and lean it before you leave think carefully before booking here I would never stay again!

Boasting "luxury, comfort and taste" on their website and a massive refurb - we thought we'd try Newquay's surf lodge for a get-away.

First of all, it's a stag-do hangout, not a surf lodge.

Went in the off-season - were told we were getting a six-bed room instead of the double room we tried to book. Arrived and received an 4-bunkbed room with 2 tiny double beds. The room was small as it was and would make a cozy room with one double bed. We couldn't even sleep together on one bed because it wasn't large enough for us, though we were told there would be a double bed for us. We had to use every bedspread in the room on our mattress just to make it feel like there was a mattress there at all.

Their website boasts all of a massive refurb costing something like 1.4 million pounds and i can assure you that not one pound of it was spent in the sparse and disappointing rooms. it looks like most of it was spent on outside lighting and possibly purchasing the new "Reef Island" breeze-block monstrosity (with what looks like triple bunk-beds from the outside).

There's a "Reef Waterfall" out front - lame.

Postage-stamp sized tvs in the hallways playing surf movies - and outdated small tvs in the rooms with 3 channels (ONLY 3) - you get more on free-view than in Reef. Also the tvs are put at such an awkward angle up above your head next to the toilet - we couldn't tell what buttons we were pushing - and had nowhere to watch it from.

Blue lights in the hallway - how does that make my stay more comfortable and pleasant?

Bathroom was small and never got a replenishment of toilet paper (we were there for over a week!). Sink didn't drain. Noone even came near our room - except the outrageously noisy stag-dos. And not once did we encounter a member of staff - except some days at the ridiculous stainless steel reception desk (another investment?).

No staff at all on premises during the nights - is this even legal? Stag dos running amuck outside our room and in the hallways - we were not about to confront 12 drunk males at 4 am. Smoking in the hallways and banging on doors - are we back at uni?

Good luck finding parking within a few blocks, even in the winter-season (when it rains the most).

The coffee shop/bar/restaurant/internet cafe was closed the entire time we were there - how can you advertise breakfast, wifi, and the most popular bar in newquay when the place is never open!? We asked a few times at the desk when the bar would be open as we wanted to get breakfast and use wifi, have a nice drink, etc., and were told it might be open later or at the weekend. Not a chance.

On check-out, a day early, the desk staff didn't even ask how our stay was or why we were leaving early.

You'd do much better to book yourself into a friendly b&b or even camp out in a field than even step foot in "GRIEF SURF LODGE."

Room Tip: Don't.

I first came to Reef a few years ago and have been coming back ever since! Staff are always great and friendly and the rooms are good value for money as well as very clean so it's always a great place to crash. I've stayed at several of the "cheaper" lodges in Newquay and most of them are not the nicest standard and it's always great to stay at reef where you get the customer service and quality and it really makes the most of your stay!

Room Tip: Go for en-suite!
