“Good Value. Self Drive. Retired 'oposition' driver/courier.”
Reviewed 12 July 2013

Booked this hotel on the recommendation of friends who said, it will be good value. We were not disapointed. Good Value. Clean. Food good. Excellent portions. Staff could not be faulted. To be perfectly honest, if you are thinking of booking a hotel run by one the good coach tour operators, you cannot go wrong, with regards to accomodation and food. Get those two items wrong and they do not exist as a company any more. Staff here genuine and helpful. As someone who's career was in direct oposition to Shearings, I would without doubt stay at the Beresford again.

Room Tip: 'Tis the seaside and seagulls never sleep. Hence the score for sleep quality.

Recently spent a week at the Beresford Hotel .We had room 101 which was very spacious with lovely sea views (extra charge) however the room was in need of refurbishment the carpet was rather grubby and there were what looked like damp patches on the walls. The staff were very pleasant and efficient in the dining room and the food was very good with good range of choices. The entertainment was pretty good on most evenings and the drinks vouchers were an added bonus.Special mention for Susi our waitress and Tina who was a jack of all trades and always had a smile. We were not all that impressed with Newquay but the hotel provided a good base.

Room Tip: our room had great views but as it was on first floor the entertainment from the ballroom could be h...

Hi Eileen

It was great to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us in Newquay.

Shearings do offer great value for money, but have you tried their Coast and Country Hotels, these are the Companies premier hotels and offer more choice of accomodation and food.

Suzi was so pleased to be mentioned by you.

Kind regards

Just returned from a really enjoyable week at the Beresford.
Our room was very clean but the bathroom could do with being refurbished especially the shower.
All staff were very professional and friendly. Our waitress Ernesta always had a smile and was really efficient.
Food was varied, hot and excellent quality.
The entertainment was varied and something for everyone.
Guy our coach driver was very informative and we thoroughly enjoyed our optional trip to the Air Museum.
All in all a fantasic holiday and would return.

Hi

Thank you for commenting on trip advisor, it is always helpful to know how we are doing, and the staff get a real buzz from reading the reports.

The trip to the classic air museum is a new one and hopefully a lot of guests will enjoy it during the season.

Visited this hotel on a self drive break Mon -Fri, having booked only the previous day.
Given room on the third floor, although the lift was out of order the stairs were not to steep, but awkward if your mobility was not 100%. The bedroom has been completely refurbished only 3 months earlier with new shower and suit, bed and flat screen t.v.. Major problem was the shower lacked any power and sometimes stopped .This was reported to the Hotel. The food was the best we have had in a Shearings hotel and a different selection from other Hotels in the group..
The Hotel was very clean and the staff very helpfull. Entertainment was average. The all inclusive package of 4 drinks per day was a good incentive also to visit the hotel. Will return

Hi Peter

Thank you for taking the time to comment on trip advisor.

I am delighted that you enjoyed many parts of your stay. I agree that there are difficultied when the lift is not in use, we are sincerely hoping that this will be rectified within the next week

The newly refurbished rooms are lovely and bright and with an ongoing programme of investiment we should soon have many more.

Thank you for your comments about the food and the staff, they will be pleased to know that you mentioned them.

Just returned from a weeks holiday. Brilliant location overlooking tolcarne beach.
All in all I had an enjoyable stay.
Food was good, staff were very friendly & room was clean but in need of an up date.
I paid for a sea view but the windows were very dirty so it looked foggy all the time. However the window cleaners turned up on the Thursday.
The only thing I can really fault is the floors. They are very creeky and I was kept awake at night by the people above walking about for what seemed to be for hours.
Unless you have a top floor I'd suggest you use ear plugs to drown out the noise.
I would return but ask for the top floor.
All in all it's a good hotel but like so many it needs some refurbishment.

Hi Molly

Thanks for taking the time to comment on trip advisor and telling everyone about The Beresford Hotel.

We do work hard to ensure that the food and service is good and generally we get great feedback, which my staff and I really appreciate.

The Hotel is a typical seaside hotel built at the turn of the last century and is having to be constantly altered to meet todays Health and Safety and quality standards. A programme of investment is ongoing, but with 103 letting bedrooms, miles of corridors and doors, you can imagine that this is never going to be a quick fix!

Our Coast and Country Hotels offer fantastic locations and the opportunities to upgrade both accommodation and food, well worth looking at.

Kind regards

First impression of hotel was that the front entrance windows needed a clean!!! But inside the hotel is very clean, all the staff helpful and friendly. Our room was a bit dated but adequate for us and kept spotless by the maid. The meals were very good and nicely presented Our waitress from Lithuania was a lovely friendly helpful girl, always had a smile. Only drawback was we were in room above the ball room and could hear whirling noise at night but once we had told Duty Manager and he found out what the noise was. - fan in the Ballroom below- it was turned off each night after the entertainment was finished. Would go there again - but have room on higher floor if possible - excellent location over looking the Tolcarne beach.

Room Tip: Go for higher room as noise from Ball room if you are a early to bed type!

Hi Liz

Thank you for your comments, and I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us.

The views from the Hotel are beautiful and well worth that extra supplement for a sea view!

We do have the windows cleaned weekly, but we are totally exposed to the Atlantic Coast and all that it can throw at us, so sometimes they are cleaned in the morning and by the afternoon they are ready again!

Hope to see you again in the future

Kind regards
